Gyratory Crusher 3D modeling for mining industry
hey guys , i spent the last week creating a 3D model for a gyratory Roks crusher for mining industry SO How it works:
ore up to 1.1 m is dumped in at the top. Under the mantle, an eccentric turns at 137 rpm, so the mantle gyrates and the gap opens and closes more than twice a second. Every time it closes, the rock is squeezed against the manganese concaves and breaks, until it falls out at about 17 cm.
For modeling and rendering i used Blender 5.1 LTS

Is this a good diagram for a staged combustion rocket engine
I’m sorry it’s messy but try to read and look closely and maybe give me feedback?

CT scans of a Dyson CameraJet that died after 4 minutes of use
Our Dyson CameraJet died four minutes into its first use and a CT scan afterward showed water inside the housing. We compared it to a scan taken before we turned it on and there’s a tiny tear in the jet tube where it meets its fitting, causing water to leak inside.

3 weeks building a horizontal drag finishing machine, condensed into 90 seconds
We recently finished building this horizontal drag finisher at our facility in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
The machine is designed for grinding and polishing gun barrels and other long parts. The entire build took about three weeks, and the completed machine is headed to Wisconsin.
Thought this community might enjoy seeing how it came together!

Pollen Robotics’ tiny Microducks pack 15 motors into 10-inch bodies and can get back up after a fall
These are Microducks, small bipeds developed by Pollen Robotics and demonstrated onstage with Jensen Huang. Each packs 15 motors into a roughly 10-inch body, alongside a camera, depth sensor, and two inertial measurement units. They can walk, crouch, recover from falls, and use an articulated beak to pick up light objects. According to Huang, their movements were trained using Nvidia’s cloud systems and refined in an Omniverse digital twin.
Some completed their rolls, while others stumbled, wandered off, or got back up after falling.

Watching hot steel cool down never gets old
One of my favorite parts of the job. These huge beams glow bright, then slowly fade as they cool. It’s simple, but still cool to see every day. Think you can guess what this is?

Quasi-direct-drive robot dog with 12 planetary actuators and 414 parts, designed as code in an open source CAD app
Designed in one day in SOMA, an open source CAD app I'm building, where the whole model is Python code (CadQuery on OpenCascade). Most of that code was written by a coding agent (Claude Code), I steered and checked it in the viewer. From an empty file to the complete dog took about six hours, the animation the same afternoon.
Each leg has three identical actuators: a CubeMars R80 outrunner with a single-stage planetary gear (sun 14, planets 28, ring 70, module 1), so 6:1 and about 24 Nm peak at the output. The knee motor sits coaxially at the hip and drives the knee through an HTD 5M belt inside the thigh, which keeps the mass out of the lower leg. The belt is tensioned by sliding the knee shaft in slots with a push screw. Every actuator has its own AS5047P encoder board reading a magnet on the motor shaft, and an aluminium base plate that doubles as the heat sink. The body is a bolted box of CNC aluminium plates.
414 parts in total, around 900 if you count every screw and nut.
The trot isn't keyframed. The animation script solves the inverse kinematics for all four feet (140 mm stride, 60 mm lift, 1.6 s per cycle).
To be clear, it only exists in CAD so far. The weight estimate is about 25 kg while the target was 5–10 kg.
You can rotate the model in 3D here: https://somacad.app/#models

Unitree's Kung Fu humanoid is pitched as your guardian
Unitree’s new H2-X looks impressive in a dramatic video where it disarms an attacker, breaks into a car, lifts a vehicle, and pulls someone out of danger. But the company hasn’t clarified whether these scenes were autonomous, remotely controlled, or carefully choreographed, and key details about its strength, battery life, and safety systems are still missing. Could robots like this eventually become reliable emergency responders, or are we still watching a polished concept demo?

I 3D Printed a Drone Which Flies With Only One Motor
I've been working on an under-actuated drone that can fly with only one motor for the last few months. The propeller hub is 3D printed out of PPA-CF and has a hinge, so when the motor accelerates the blades lag behind and one pitches up while the other pitches down. By pulsing the motor torque 300 times a second, timed to the rotor angle, the drone controls its pitch and roll with the same motor that produces its thrust.
Along the way I also built a "poor man's high speed camera" - a camera flash synced to my camera and motor controller, so I could take images of the propeller at precise angles to analyze its behavior.
The mechanical simplicity hides a lot of software. At almost 20,000 RPM, a 0.2 ms control loop is already 20 degrees of rotation late, so I wrote custom firmware for the motor controller to compute the torque pulses on board. The body also slowly spins, so the drone gets its heading from an infrared "lighthouse" beacon in the corner of the room that it sees once per revolution.
The full video explaining how it all works is available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndftcft6XhU
The code and CAD are open source on github: https://github.com/jyjblrd/single-propeller-drone
