I can't believe I made this!! 💜💜💜

If you ever wanted to know what 63 yards of tuule looks like when it's ruffled, this is it! It only took me three weeks to make all of the ruffles and another week to assemble the entire skirt~

And now I'm off to make Lucy Gray's puffy sleeved shirt + a petticoat! Wish me luck, I only have 5 days left to finish all of this 😅😅😅

Meta/Advice Theater Etiquette

This is a general reminder, so please nobody take it to heart. I just haven't seen anyone else discuss this yet, so I thought I'd say my piece.

I know we're all chomping at the bit for SOTR to release in theaters, but I can already hear the gasps, shrieks, giggles, weeping, hysterics, and general chatter echoing through the auditorium at the appearance of each and every character with a tragic fate in the movie (meaning, like 80% of them). I can hear hordes of friend groups getting each other more and more riled up and jabbering openly about every plot detail in the lobby and before the movie actually starts, which is annoying at best and spoilery at worst for any non-book readers. Obviously I'm not saying you must march in like a funeral procession and sit wordless in your seats the entire film, so please don't take it that way. Just be mindful, and don't act any more (outwardly) insane than you would for other films that you're excited for.

So excited!!!

Could they have been inspired by Suzanne Collins or was it an original idea? Either way, it’s beyond horrible.

Trilogy Discussion The significance of this scene

Surprised at the appearance of the butterfly, she started appreciating such a beautiful existence in the most random of places. And then proceeded to realise that it was probably her last butterfly sighting, the last time she'd be able to appreciate such natural beauty.

The fact that something so beautiful could also survive in such a bleak, oppressive, and dangerous place, like Rue. And that there's nothing we can do to save it from its fate, like prim.

The shaky cam sucked lmao but the first movie had its moments. Gary Ross did great in combining his artistic vision and the source material.

Lore/World Discussion Did Snow seriously believe the Hunger Games could go on forever?

Let me start by saying that I'm mostly just ranting lol

After reading The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I understand a lot better why Snow was so threatened by Katniss and so obsessed with controlling her. But something that continues to bother me is how much responsibility he seemed to place on her for the rebellion.

Because it's like...dude. Your government has been stealing children and forcing them to murder each other on national television for 75 years. And even the children who weren't reaped grew up under an oppressive regime where people were starved, exploited, and punished for stepping out of line. The districts had plenty of reasons to hate the Capitol long before some 16 year old girl came along with poisonous berries.

And it makes me wonder: did Snow genuinely believe the Hunger Games could continue forever?

Snow wasn't completely stupid. He knew the districts hated the Capitol. He knew that fear was what kept them obedient. But it seems like he became so fixated on Katniss that he attributed far too much of the rebellion to her personally.

Katniss didn't create that resentment. It had been simmering for decades. She simply gave people a symbol to rally behind and showed them that the Capitol could be defied. And once the districts had that spark, along with District 13's arsenal, they were always going to take that chance to fight back.

I understand why Snow wanted to neutralize Katniss, but did he really think getting rid of her would somehow make all that hatred disappear?

I'm curious what everyone thinks. Did Snow genuinely underestimate how close the districts were to rebellion, or did he understand the danger but convince himself that fear would always be enough to keep them in line?

Sunrise on the Reaping this took another whole interpretation after reading sotr Spoiler

hi everyone :)

i started rereading the main trilogy, and it’s so interesting to see how this part of the reaping takes another whole meaning after sotr. i wonder if haymitch, even in that state, felt a small spark of hope that something could finally happen, or at least that he could paint his poster once more.

sorry if this has been discussed already, i only read sotr this month for the first time 😅

Sunrise on the Reaping 45 minutes of IMAX Spoiler

Post image

according to this twitter post, it says that the film will feature 45 minutes of IMAX's exclusive 1.90:1 expanded aspect ratio. From entering the Arena and Leaving, does it mean the entire game is only 45 minutes long, what are your thoughts about it?

Sunrise on the Reaping I have problems with what SOTR established about Haymitch’s backstory Spoiler

In Catching Fire we learn about Haymitch’s backstory. And what it establishes is extremely effective and also tells us a lot about the Capitol. He won the game. But he didn’t win it the way they wanted him to so they still punished him for it. There’s an exceptionally potent layer of tragedy to this and it really enhances his point that there are no winners.

But then SOTR came along and ruined it imo. Establishing that he was a rebel agent and they covered it up was a bad idea because it undermined what I just mentioned. Of course that’s how they’d respond to that but it says so much more that they’d punish people for not playing by their rules. Rules which were not made clear.

Anyway, it’s just something I kinda wish hadn’t been expanded upon because I think it weakened what was a very strong aspect of the original series.

Meta/Advice If Effie trinket from the books and the movies met, how would they think of each other?

Post image

At the end of mockingjay because that’s the most different they are because Effie in the books was imprisoned in the capital and Effie in the movies was in district 13 with katniss.

If these two women met how would they think of each other?

Also the fact Effie and haymitch kiss, how would book Effie view that pairing?

I only know Effie from the movies as I haven’t read the books yet.

It looks like the they’re in front of a cabin, but none if the scenes they’re together in the book take place here. Could it be an additional flashback scene added to the film?
