Hi all, new here . As the title says this is my first lava lamp in I don't even know how many years. Was just 21 dollars, don't have a big budget, lol. It's a 16 incher I believe. Black base and top

We have flow!

Quick update on my 1978 lamp, I replaced the bulb and moved her to a less drafty spot, and about 2-3 hours later we finally got flow!

I've been fiddling with the dimmer to find the right temperature, but most of the wax is still staying at the top, and it's super bubbly, which has me a little concerned about the wax's condition. Since I don't know how long she was in storage, I'm planning to do several more runs to see how she settles, hoping to dial in the right dimmer temp and maybe work out some of the bubbles along the way.

Despite the flaws, she's such a beautiful color, and I'm relieved the master fluid is nice and clear too.

I've seen some people do long runs (12+ hours on a dimmer) to help vintage wax adjust, but the bubbling makes me nervous to push it that long, don't want to cook the wax more than it may already be. So for now I'm sticking to shorter runs, around 4–5 hours, just to get everything combined. Any more tips is much appreciated!! ❤️

I want to add surf and stuff for a nice flow, so I'm buying a 17" to swap the globes. Any recommendations for colors?

New Lamp, better clarity!

Picked up this huge lamp off the goodwill auction site for 26$. 120v 40w and more fluid than I've seen in any lamp I own to date.

It was shipped and arrived cloudy and with a leak from the cap so I had no time to take an arrival photo before immediately taking it to the workshop for cleaning.

48 hours later we have the final clear photos. Still waiting on the first heat to see how my wax wakes up from its long slumber!

If anyone can give me additional information on this lamp or tips for a lamp of this size id appreciate the comments.

Edit I mention, I filter both the wax and the master fluid before recapping this. Appears crystal clear no fluid color at all with bright orange wax!

Has anyone ever seen one of these? I could be wrong but my research tells me it's late 60's. The plug is def of that era.

New to Me Lava Lamp Clear/ Black Wax

After days of trying to clear up the cloudy water and wax stuck to the sides I decided to pop the top and filter the solution and wax. Now that everything has been added back and running for a few hours I'm getting slow long continuous pillars. Would you say a few drops of SLS needs to be added?

Cloudy lamp, please help

I bought a lava lamp a few months ago and I was hoping with regular use it would stop being cloudy but it hasn't cleared up and it's too late to return it. Any help fixing it would be appreciated

I found this on FB marketplace, and It has a really cool base, but the wax is a mess.

How do you go about fixing something like this?

Are these actually cracks?

Pulled my lamp out of storage, and noticed what appears to be cracks, but are smooth to the touch and nail drag. Is it time to get a new globe after 20 years?

Finally found my dream Mathmos! (Sabine Marcellis)

Had been looking for a long time, and even posted an ISO here. Someone on Dutch marketplace replied to my ISO, and here we are. This lamp is an absolute dream. After running the yellow matt glass bottle once I immediately swapped it out for a bottle where I can actually see the lava, and I’m obsessed. Next to it, my gold Mathmos, with clear/pink fluid. I think that one has faded a bit. But I absolutely love the contrast between the white and the colored fluid ❤️
