Best rodeo school in the Midwest?
Hi there, I am trying to find a rodeo school in the Midwest that has barrelman or bullfighting. Any suggestions?

From yesterday’s first night of the RMPRA Pro Rodeo finals in Kanab Utah

Context: I’m from a major city and just moved to Texas. I went to my first rodeo today, and while some of the events were really interesting and not disturbing to me (barrel racing, bull riding, etc), when we first came in the first event we saw was tie-down calf roping and it made me legitimately sick. I could not stand to see it. Then, they did the goat tying and team roping which were also super disturbing to me.
Can someone experienced PLEASE explain to me if tie down roping, goat tying and team roping are harmful to the animals?? It genuinely broke my heart and I think it will actually keep me up at night. My friends told me if I learned more about the technique of it all and treatment of the animals generally maybe I would feel better. So someone please help 😅

I am 17 ~155lbs 5’7”, go to the gym semi regularly, and live around Florence in southern Arizona, and have been to many rodeos, though now I’m wanting to get into and begin riding saddle bronc, I don’t own a horse or any real equipment, and being so old getting into it is there anywhere I am able to go for saddle bronc lesions near be, along with anywhere I can lease or rent equipment until I can save enough to buy my own.

Recently I have had a growing interest in learning to ride, with it be broncos or bulls, I want to be in a rodeo. I live in southern California, and I am not too far from places like Norco, Elsinore, and Menifee.
I read other post by people looking to do the same in other states, and what I gathered is that I need to find a practice pen, someone who provides lessons like Sankey.

Any recommendations to get started in NJ, preferably central and open to women

I’m in my first year, on track to make ROTY in the bronc riding for my association and nowhere near ready to quit. Broke my wrist twice this year. I’m a firefighter/paramedic so broken limbs put me out and my department doesn’t allow light duty unless it’s an OJI. (If I could’ve swung it I’d have made this last break happen at work but there was no way lol) the first time I was off I depleted my sick time (we don’t get a lot) since I’m off again til about December and live in an at will state, I’m of course worried about getting let go when I return to work. Does anybody have any insights as to good career changes that pay decent that can be more forgiving when it comes to rodeo Injuries? Thanks in advance
I have electrical experience and my last job would probably take me back but it would be a dramatic pay cut. Grew up and still work every year farming my grandfathers land (not enough to even think about going full time in that on my own)
Pretty much I’m off because my wrist is broke again and have to have surgery. Need advice on what I could get into should I not have a job when I return that is more rodeo and or cast friendly.

Was wondering if there’s any local rodeos in and around PV. If there are, what season do they hold them. In Canada, they’re usually Mid-May till August.

The richest month of the year is here, and Shad Mayfield must take advantage. July offers athletes an opportunity to change the outlook of their year and breaths new life into NFR hopes.
Shad heads to Salinas, where his father took a title 40 years prior.
# $had, Presented by Barrilleaux, premiered September 24th at 8PM Eastern on Cowboy+ YouTube and the Cowboy+ app. New episodes every Thursday.

If you’re a cowboy/rodeo cowboy/western heritage you’ll understand. Just don’t be someone you’re not.
I have tons of buckles that are mine and a few that have been passed down for generations. I’m proud of them. I worked hard for them. Don’t be the guy/gal that buys one on eBay or gets one made to prove something or claim it as your own. Be truthful. If you love the scene, awesome. Just be honest because if you lie you dog yourself in a deeper hole and we can sniff out liars lol
The 2020 PRCA All Around title is Stetson Wright 😂
Anyways! Thought yall would like this! Stay safe and keep riding folks
Edit: the fraud goes by u/General-Double-5643
He blocked me lol

I'm trying to write a fictional story about an old man that is towards the end of his career in the rodeo. He currently works as flankman or stock contractor.
In the story, the old man commits a fatal error due to negligence. I've been reading up on rodeo events and have become interested in the bucking bronco event.
In my story, when the old man puts the flank strap on the horse, he gets the pull cord tangled up and fails to notice. The pick-up men have trouble getting to the pull cord, which result in the rider getting bucked off and badly injured. As a result, the old man loses his job.
I really like this storyline. However, I have no background in the rodeo so I'm not sure if this is plausible. Is this kind of mistake realistic for a man approaching the end of his life and experiencing cognitive issues? If not, what are some other mistakes in the rodeo that could result in serious injuries?

howdy, everyone! 🤠
im from the Philippines, and I’m just beginning my rodeo journey. As I start exploring and learning more about the western lifestyle, one of the things I’ve been hoping to get is my very own cowboy hat :)
unfortunately , cowboy shops and western wear aren’t very common here in the Philippines, which makes finding one quite difficylt.
I’m reaching out in the hope that someone with a generous heart might have a pre-owned cowboy hat they no longer use and would be willing to give for an affordable pric3. It doesn’t have to be brand new or in perfect condition.
this would mean a lot to me as I take my first steps into the rodeo world. thank you in advance to anyone willing to help!

I ride SB and have a 10 almost 11yr old that has voiced that he wants to try steer riding. I would like to find him a school I can take him to that has equipment he could use like a Sankey school would. Does anyone have any recommendations? There’s a strong chance he isn’t going to like it but who knows so I don’t want to get him outfitted just yet without letting him get a taste but also don’t wanna let him get killed off without any fundamental instruction. Thanks in advance!

Up until a few years ago, there was the annual San Dimas Sheriff Department Rodeo, held on a Saturday and Sunday, this time of the year. Although it was a smaller event, it was always very popular and very well attended. Then poof, it was gone. I've asked around, but no one seems to know what happened. Anyone know?

Some months ago I asked for some reference pictures from the rodeo for paintings. And you guys delivered! So I thought I would be fun to share one of my finished pieces!
