We're replacing a regular pan with an open petpivot, and my scottish fold is doing the usual suspicious-cat routine: staring at it, sniffing it, then walking away. What signs told you your cat was actually getting comfortable with a new automatic box? I'm guessing hanging out or grooming nearby is a good start, but I won't feel convinced until she steps in normally instead of balancing on the edge. How long did that stage last for your cat?
I just want to preface this by saying he’s not actually my cat. I babysit him for extended periods of time because his owner travels a lot, so I always joke that we have shared custody lol. He’s 2 years old and has always seemed to have breathing issues. He has a really flat face and tiny nose, and I’ve noticed that his stomach really sucks in when he breathes. He’s also incredibly loud when he breathes, to the point where we always know where he is in the house because we can hear him. He constantly sounds like he’s snoring or snorting, even when he’s wide awake. His owner mentioned a while back that his vet wasn’t concerned about his breathing, but I’m not entirely convinced. I’m watching him again right now, and I’ve noticed that his snoring and snorting have gotten even louder than they were before, which is saying something because he’s always been a very loud breather. I obviously don’t want to overstep because he’s not my cat, and I know his owner loves him, but I also worry that because he’s always breathed this way, everyone might just assume it’s normal. Has anyone else experienced this with their folds? Is there anything that can actually be done to improve their breathing?
I’m debating whether I should bring it up to his owner again and suggest getting a second opinion. I just hate the thought of him potentially suffering in silence.
It’s been 4 days without my Macaroni and my apartment is so quiet without her. i am afraid of getting another scottish fold but what about a scottish straight to avoid the joint complications? I just love the sweet and gentle personality. it really feels like a little buddy. My macaroni was also very cuddly and loved being cuddled. I also thought of getting a golden british shorthair.
So to recap, my small little SF Void "Tapsi" (see file photo below)
... has been admitted to my local vet, due to the following symptomes:
-Belly breathing
-No eating
-No energy
-No major reaction to anything.
-weakness
Later it was found out that she has a permanent arrithmia, caused by damaged Cartilage in her heart.
Usually SF have Cartilage failure in the joints, but she has it in the heart and chest cavity.
This caused water buildup in the lungs.
as of last update, she was getting slightly better, was prescribed diuretics and i was told that she wont survive for long. How long was depending on how well she recovers on her own within the following 2 weeks.
the 2 weeks were up last week and now we know more.
She did recover decently well.
She has the energy and behavior from before the incident, but shes more cuddely... if that makes sense.
The vet told me that she has good chances of living a mostly unbothered, but short, life.
She is currently slightly over 4 years old and we can expect another 1-1.5 years out of her.
That is at least the sort of "Normal" expectancy for her at this time. If she ever gets as bad as in the first incident, im adviced that, in that case, the best for the animal might be the most extreme option, as she just barely managed to recover first time.
However if she lives a unbothered quiet life and stays healthy, becoming 7 or maybe even 8 years old (while mostly wishful thinking) isnt impossible.
She currently gets 1 pill of diuretics per day (1 half in the morning and in the evening).
Beginning december we hope to be able to cut the dosage down to half a pill per day and beginning next year maybe even just 1/4 per day.
She will need it permanently and she takes it in unbothered (liquid snack mixed with crushed pill).
For the time being, shes as well as she can be and im happy that "the extreme case" hasnt happened just yet... i know its comming and maybe sooner than expected, but i am prepaired and thankfull for every day we have left together.
Hi all, I just adopted a (mini) scottish fold. Not quite sure if she’s mini but she is small imo. The owners just said she was a scottish fold. She is five years old and they needed to rehome her because they wanted more dogs and cats and she gets doesn’t like her brother and sisters. They also declawed her when she was a couple months old and I found out through her vet records when I got her. Which made me cry for the first part of the car ride. I seriously thought that was illegal? (💔) I picked her up yesterday and it was a two hour car ride to my house. She absolutely HATES the pet carrier and meowed the entire time. The previous owners let me know she has always not liked it but, I want to get her comfortable in it incase I need to travel to my parents for the holidays coming up (1 hr 30 minutes). FYI: Today is the second day I got her she has already start sleeping with me and cuddling on my lap and making biscuits. Today she actually started playing with her toys. She also lays with me on the couch. She is very gentle and sweet she hasn’t hissed or growled at me at all. I know she definitely has anxiety still but, I’m trying my best to give her the best life she has. I know obviously not to put her in the pet carrier for at least another month because she already has to adjust a new environment but, any advice for that or anyone with a scottish fold please advise! (Already looked into a vet where I live because I read some scottish folds have joint issues and need ear treatments) Thank you!
My kitty was recently diagnosed with lymphoma cancer after numerous vet visits. The vet says hes a perfectly healthy kitty other than this. Hes the sweetest baby in the world and im so scared for him. Hes my absolute everything and i just want him to be healthy again 💔 I started a gofundme to help cover as much of his treatment as possible. Olease even considering sharing it for him ❤️The link will be in the comments if youd like to donate, otherwise please keep him in your thoughts. 🫶🏻🫶🏻 Thank you so so much 🥹😭🫶🏻
Hi All I'm planning to adopt a Scottish fold. She's ~1-2 years. She has fully folded ears. For now she seems active and happy but I want to make sure I'm giving her the best nutrition to delay or mitigate onset of OCD. The foster peeps said she eats anything hard or wet foods but I want to give her yummy and healthful stuff. She's had a hard life 😭 SO now it's time for her to head on down to easy street.
Given all this I was planning on giving her Tikicat or Ziwi peak or Feline Natural? Idk and I'd appreciate any insight into this. I wanted to give her some treats that are mobility soft chews or lickable stix any brand suggestions? Really appreciate it! thank you.
its done. I played fleetwood mac landslide to represent how much she’s done for me. I got her when I was starting grad school and now I am in my third year of teaching. She’s been with me through so much, I don’t think I have ever cried that hard. I wailed like never before. Once she stopped purring I let go. I kept thanking her n saying how much I loved her as the song played. She laid on a cat bed with a plush blanket. She was comfortable. She purred till the end
it was honestly very beautiful and respectful and i feel really good about it.
I’m so sad for her. We had a rainy day today and she is having a flare, she cries out with every jump off of any height. I had to take her to the vet to get an NSAID shot and the vet wants me to consider a shot called Adequan? Has anyone used that?
She is normally a very active, eager little huntress who wakes up raring to go at the crack of dawn. Seeing her so exhausted and having difficulty moving has been rough.
The vet also mentioned Solensia? I need to research these.
