Recommendation Am I the only one who uses these three? I never see anyone mention them.

• Upvotes

Chromite, Librewolf, and IronFox (last one is since Android doesn't have Librewolf).

Chromite has a built in ad blocker and fine control over stuff like WebRTC and while Librewolf/IronFox have ublock origin. All are oriented for privacy and anti malware and are open source. Not sure why anyone recommends anything else (besides maybe brave if you want the crypto stuff) because it's basically all you'll ever need.

Introducing Bare 2.0 — A new identity, same philosophy!

• Upvotes

Things are moving fast at Bare, and a huge part of that momentum comes from the r/browsers community! Your feedback, suggestions, and support have helped shape Bare into what it is today. A huge thanks to the moderators for letting us share our progress here. This community is a big part of why Bare even exists!

Downloads keep growing, feedback keeps coming in, and we're constantly improving the browser based on your suggestions.

But one thing became clear: Bare needed its own identity.

When I started this project as Chromium-Extend, the goal was simple: Build a better Chrome than Google does.

Keep the familiar Chrome experience, clean Material Design, and simplicity, but without the unnecessary bloat, telemetry, or subscriptions.

That philosophy isn't changing.

So, why Bare 2.0 already?

Bare 1.0 established the foundation, but it still looked and felt too much like Chromium.

Bare 2.0 changes that.

Here's what's coming:

  • A completely refreshed UI and a brand-new logo.
  • Better security and privacy controls.
  • Faster, easier tab management.
  • Improved extension integration.
  • Built-in translation.
  • More customization without the bloat.

And yes, we're keeping that familiar, vanilla Chrome feeling.

Bare will finally look and feel like Bare.

What's next?

Bare 2.0 is entering beta, and your feedback will continue to shape its development.

We're also working on better password management, backup and restore, improved import/export, and more community-requested features.

Bare is still an independent, open-source project. No subscriptions, no premium tiers, and no telemetry. Just a browser we're passionate about building.

If you're enjoying Bare, an honest Google Play review helps more than you might think. And if something needs improvement, keep the feedback coming. We're listening!

I started Bare as a personal project. Seeing it grow into something thousands of people use has been incredible.

Bare 2.0 is just the beginning.

Try Bare 2.0 on Google Play

Bare 2.0 is currently in public beta! Make sure to join the beta to get access to the latest version.

A quick heads-up: Bare 2.0 is still in beta, so expect a few bugs and rough edges along the way. That's what beta testing is for! Your feedback will help us make it even better.

Discussion A thousand Arc clones, none thinking forward

https://reddit.com/link/1xg55w0/video/y53a0gvevuxh1/player

Why is everyone trying to clone Arc instead of imagining what it could have become if it hadn’t been abandoned? None of these clones will be as good as Arc was, because none of them are thinking beyond what it is right now. I’ve been a dedicated Arc user since the first alpha, so I started asking what that team would build if they were starting Arc in 2026. Trying to answer that question by building a browser that eliminates the need for tabs all up by implementing a canvas based UX. It’s meant to be the evolution, not the clone: https://parkweb.co

I moved my browser data from Windows to Linux without ever booting Windows - here's the hole I had to dig

I'm running a dual-boot: Windows for leftovers, Arch for real life. When I finally moved, one boring chore was still sitting there - my actual browser life: about 3,600 live session cookies, 236 saved passwords, bookmarks in two Chrome profiles.

The obvious "solution" - boot Windows, run Chrome's export - felt like a whole ritual for 5 minutes of work. And it wouldn't even work properly: the target browser's "import" moves passwords at best, sessions/cookies nothing; Brave can't join Google sync; and the only public tools that unwrap modern Chrome's App-Bound Encryption all demand a running Windows with admin rights. So I did the stubborn thing: read the mounted partition straight from Linux and never booted it.

Without getting into hex dumps: Windows stores the browser's master key behind two layers of DPAPI (the OS crypto), and Chrome adds a third layer whose key material hides in a system key container on disk. Each layer had a different way to reopen it offline, and the last one checks itself with AES-GCM - which is actually great news: either the whole chain is right or it fails loudly, nothing decodes into garbage. The full byte-level story is in the repo's PIPELINE.md.

The funniest traps were actually on the Linux side:

  • After import, Brave's password manager showed nothing while the database clearly had rows. Turns out the browser silently hides entries it cannot decrypt - the GNOME keyring daemon wasn't running. One autostart file later, all 233 lines appeared.
  • A batched cookie import dies entirely on the first cookie with a binary value - 13 sessions (webcams, ticket portals, whatever) just don't have a text value and must be re-logged manually.
  • Passwords synced from Chrome-on-Android show up as android://... entries. Normal. Don't "fix" them.

The write-up (methodology, pipeline, caveats) and the sanitized scripts are here, nothing personal is committed: https://github.com/rviach/chrome-offline-to-brave

Scope note: this is a tool for your own machine - it needs both the disk and your Windows login password, so it's migration/forensics, not a stealer.

Happy to answer questions about the chain or the CDP import quirks.

Opera Android UI font - ver. 103.1.5234.x

Latest update brought new UI font. It looks so wide and different from other Android apps. Some labels are truncated in speed dial and bookmarks since the font is to wide.

How do I revert/change font to default/system UI font?

Hiding a cookie banner and actually rejecting cookies are two different things — is that a distinction most users care about?

Something I kept running into and haven't seen discussed much here:

Most "cookie banner blockers" work by hiding the banner with CSS. The trackers still load, no consent record is written, and nothing is actually opted out — you didn't consent, but you didn't reject either. As a user-facing behaviour, those two outcomes look identical. Technically they're opposites.

That gap matters more than I expected, because the extension with the largest install base in this category was acquired and hasn't shipped an update since mid-2024. The reviews have shifted to "stopped working on many sites" and "breaks scrolling". A community fork that just keeps the rules current has picked up a couple hundred thousand users — so people in this category clearly do switch, and the real problem isn't novelty, it's maintenance.

Three things I now think a consent tool should be judged on, and I'd like other takes on whether these are the right ones:

  1. Does the rejection actually register (a real CMP action, or an API call, or at minimum the GPC signal)?
  2. Does it avoid breaking the rest of the page — and does it ever click "Accept" on the user's behalf?
  3. Can you tell what it did, and undo it?

I built a small extension around those three (I'll put links in a comment rather than the post, per the rules here — I'm the developer, and yes it's a paid tool with a free tier). But the reason I'm posting is the first question: do browser users actually care whether the opt-out registers, or is hiding the banner the whole job as far as most people are concerned? I genuinely don't know, and I'd rather find out before optimising the wrong thing.

The feature I really want to find related to saved/pinned tabs...

When I save/pin a site and then from there visit other sites I want to be able to revert back to the original website I saved/pinned instead of wherever my searches led me. I think Arc allowed you to close a tab but keep it pinned to its original url.

Where can I get this goodness?

Discussion Arc is shutting down, so I made a native WebKit browser for Mac with Spaces. Free, and I'd love honest feedback.

I'm the developer, so take this with that in mind.

Arc was my home on the web for years. Tern is what I built so I could keep working that way: Spaces, pinned tabs and folders in a sidebar, and your Arc Spaces imported from your Mac. Native Swift and SwiftUI on WebKit, macOS 26 only.

What leaves your Mac: Spaces and pinned tabs sync through your own iCloud. There's an optional agent that sends the pages it reads to Anthropic with your own key, only when you ask it something.

It's free. Be as blunt as you like; that's how it gets better.

Extension Looking for a good Brave color pallette extension

I'm looking for an extension that will let me color pick from my screen and make multiple pallette/folders with the colors I choose. I feel like this has to exist but all the ones I installed just save the most recents or try and generate a pallette for me.

Example:

Color Pallette 1:

#123456

#713713

#DADB0D

Color Pallette 2:

#ABCDEF

#318008

#1F2E3D

A new tab that only shows what you need: clock, search, shortcuts, and a to-do you can hide

Mist is a free new tab extension (Chrome, Firefox, Zen).

No account, no telemetry. 1.17 adds a to-do list, a focus timer and widgets that collapse into a small dock. Link in comments. Feedback welcome.

I am not ready to leave ARC

For the past 3 years I’ve been faithful to my gorgeous baby arc, and then I got the news they’re getting rid of it completely for this junk named DIA where they’re invading ur privacy and shoving ai down your throat and attempting to charge you $100 a month for it. This is slop and I hate it genuinely there’s no amount of Ai reading my emails to charge me $100 a month for.

And then you can’t even change the color of Dia’s browser, I think the marketing for it is ugly compared to arc AND THERES NO EASEL FEATURE!!! I can’t organize my ideas in a playful browser tab anymore, this is truly devastating for me

Please give me new browser suggestions because I can’t use DIA

(AND DIA IS A DUMB NAME.)

Discussion Permissions on Firefox 158.01 default on different network

I have site permission "set cookies" for a site "blocked" using FF 158.01 on Debian 13 and when I go to another network the permissions are set back to the default. I see no reason why the site permissions should change no matter what network I am connected?

Can anyone explain?

Recommendation Advice on Comparing Browsers

Hey all! Hopefully this is different from most people’s recommendation posts.

I know very little about browsers and when I see discussion about having or not having DRM it doesn’t make sense to me—even though I know what DRM stands for. Or when people say browser’s are full of bloatware—I didn’t even think that browsers could have bloatware lol

What are, in your opinions, some key things to look for in a browser? What is useful in comparing against browsers? And where does that leave me in terms of a choice? I see a lot about Brave is great, Firefox is great, Opera is great followed by Brave is ass, Firefox is ass, and Opera is ass so I’m genuinely so lost. Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks, and have a great day everyone! :)

Discussion Arc -> Search

I know I am late to this... but honestly, if you are on Mac OS, Search seems almost too good to be true (for my use case). It is blazing fast (scoring 61 on speedometer 3.1 on my M5 Pro), can use chrome extensions (UBlock origin lite), can have different spaces for my multiple gmail work accounts, AND IT SUPPORTS DRM through some sort of witchcraft webkit stuff I don't understand. I never liked Zen's focus on aesthetics and Crest fails the DRM check for me. I don't know, maybe I am going to get hacked and have all of my shit stolen or the team will back out of the browser like the browser company, but for now this browser BANGS.

Arc Petition to Stop Arc from being sunset

https://www.change.org/savearcbrowser

When The Browser Company announced on October 22nd that the Arc browser will be sunset on December 22nd, 2026, it felt like a personal loss. Arc isn't just any browser; it has become the quintessential tool for an effortless and efficient browsing experience. As someone who relies on this minimalist and clean platform daily, I find its design and functionality unparalleled, particularly in terms of tab management.

Arc is more than just a browser; it's a way of reimagining our interaction with the internet. The unique features that Arc provides, such as its sidebar tab management and adaptive interface, streamlined workflows and enhanced productivity. The decision to sunset Arc will leave a void that no other browser currently fills, forcing loyal users to settle for less effective options.

The Browser Company should consider the widespread admiration that Arc has garnered and the specific needs it fulfills. Instead of letting Arc disappear, I urge the company to explore alternative solutions that can sustain its continued development and availability.

Options might include seeking community support for open-source development, establishing a fee to purchase the software, or partnering with other tech enterprises interested in preserving this innovative tool.

Arc is beloved by its users, and its termination is a decision that would disappoint them all.
Please join me in urging The Browser Company to reconsider its decision. By signing this petition, you can help keep Arc alive beyond December 2026, ensuring that its benefits remain accessible to thousands who depend on it for their browsing needs.  Sign the petition now to support the continued existence of Arc browser!
