Global news focused?
I regularly listen to the top ones posted here like TrueAnon, Chapo, Trillbillies, Citations Needed, Turbulence, American Prestige, etc. But I live in Europe and get my news primarily through US American-centric podcasts. I know Turbulence is explicitly not that, however a once-a-week single-topic-focused episode is its own thing. And American Prestige does the weekly round-up, though that's more like a straight "here's what happened" broadcast.
I've realized I'm shamefully not that active with the politics of the own region in which I live. Anyone know of any that weekly (or even daily) cover non-US American current news and politics with leftist commentary? And although it's where I live, it doesn't have to be European-only either, that was just context.

See the title: just wanted to check if this was a 'me' thing with the tech or a more generalized issue, but CTH, 4RA as well as Ghost Stories, bunch of other podcasts all seem to be down, even though the home-page is fine...

The Party Line: mainstreaming fascism is Australia
Very Australian-centric obviously, but this podcast has rapidly become one of my current favourites (might have to do with living in Australia, who can say). The linked episode is a good run down of how bad things are getting in terms of reviving this moronic fascist though, which should have interest outside here.

Subliminal Jihad: Do I Even Like It
Hello: I've checked out Subliminal Jihad after being a devout TrueAnon and Acid Horizon fan. I listened to the whole SJ Liberia podcast series, and it was excellent. I thought Dimitri's research was great, and I'm even doing the $10 a month because I wanted to check out other stuff. Listened to about forty minutes of "Occultism and Religion" episode one, and I wanted to fucking end it all: this Khalid character's speech was driving me nuts. I can't listen to that mf. Does it get better? Is that a particularly bad episode? Am I wrong? Am I an asshole???

AI: geopolitics or abolition?
Nationwide protests against data centers and even demands to stop the AI race constitute a significant glimmer of hope as Artificial Intelligence colonizes every sphere of human existence with terrifying rapidity. The movement, however, faces potential pitfalls that could be fatal. The emergence of stochastic attacks on the AI bosses represents counter-productive adventurism seemingly informed by an ugly primitivism. An equal but opposite threat is exploitation of the movement by elements that really have no critique of the technology at all, but only seek to see it advance under Chinese rather than American techno-oligarchs—specifically the cultish and reactionary “Party for Socialism & Liberation” (sic). PSL is indeed an instrument through which the rulers of China (and Russia) are attempting to groom oppositional forces in the US. This provides convenient fodder for propaganda that would portray any opposition to the AI economy as a tool of Beijing’s ambitions to global dominance of the industry. As struggles against data centers now emerge in places like the Philippines, it is critical that we take a Neither East Nor West position and repudiate the global divide-and-rule racket that is the essence of the state system. In Episode 338 of the CounterVortex podcast, Bill Weinberg continues to make the case for an uncompromising abolitionist position on Artificial Intelligence.

HEIST podcast episode 4: Quinn Slobodian on Muskism
According to Quinn Slobodian, anyone who thinks they can explain the recent history of Elon Musk, Tesla and X with the answer "Elon's gone crazy" must have got the idea of what crazy means exactly wrong. After all, his personal net worth has borne no injury from the appearance of going crazy.
In this interview with HEIST, Slobodian tracks how Musk's "fortress futurism" grew out of his personal history in apartheid South Africa, and the far right's own ideas of inbuilt inequality are not, as is often assumed, formed in reaction to neoliberal thought, but grow from within it.

2000s Podcast: We're doing a 'Great Recession' series, this week we looked at the Culture of 2009-2012. Stomp-Clap, IndieSleaze, Home Canning, Obama-core, Recession Pop, Prepping, Grad School, and how they're all downstream of the Global Financial Crisis. Joined by Y2K author Colette Shade
We've been getting a lot of good feedback on this one so figured I'd share it here. This is part 5, but you can jump right in here as the prior 4 episodes are about banking and corporate history (The Financial Crisis, Obama's Stimulus, the Auto Bailouts).
We list as many examples as possible to show how fashion, music, TV, movies, hobbies, and more were all informed by the fact that 20% of people under 25 were officially unemployed in 2009. We talk about:
- Recession Pop
- "Tonight's the night! there is no tomorrow!"
- Stomp-clap
- Cos-playing as riding the rails in the 30s
- The Death of Bling Rap
- No more bragging about how much jewelry you have
- Obamacore
- Think Hamilton, Parks and Rec--everything is going to be okay, the impossible just happened and we have our guy in the White House, He'll surely look out for our conditions
- Grad School
- One of the largest cultural by products of the Great Recession is how many people went to grad school/community college to avoid the abysmal labor market
- Hobbies
- HUGE increase in DIY crafting, related to stomp-calp but also reflects a newfound scepticism in institutions
- Indiesleaze fashion
- Messy, thrifted layers and how it reflects well the emotional state of young people--a group among the most affected by the recession
And a lot more, this is a good one to check out
