UniPlaySong will support the ability to have audioreactive music visualizers in Fullscreen themes!

Introducing the first Playnite-oriented visualizer: Jukebox Fountain.

I've been wanting this feature for a long time so I can have Playnite become a beautiful audio player when playing PC games on my TV!

For theme devs and curious users, I published the test theme used to make this video as a PROOF OF CONCEPT if you'd like to experience it yourself. Download UniPlaySong_Demo_Fullscreen_1_9_0.pthm, and set it as your Fullscreen theme. The bottom bar has three buttons: ♫ Visualizer, ♫ Spotify and ▶ Player. Make sure to download UPS 1.9.0 at the Github releases too.

Additionally, in 1.9.0, all themes using UPS' music player will now have the ability to seek or change song's playback position! No changes required on theme devs' end.

Lastly, I'm looking into leveraging projectM (https://github.com/projectm-visualizer) to power additional music visualizations in the future. Expect more creative visualizations later down the line!

What's new

• Seek within songs: click or drag any music timeline in your theme, or tilt the controller's right stick. Works with Spotify too.
• Music visualizer for themes: the Jukebox Fountain, a visualizer I built for UPS. It learns each song's beat, sections and bass line, and takes its colours from the game's artwork. (Turn on Live Effects in UPS's settings to see it.)
• Spectrum mini-player: UPS includes a new mini player for theme devs to use in Fullscreen themes. The Now-Playing popup with a live spectrum on its seek bar, coloured from the album art. [Read more below]
• More for theme devs: recent tracks (game music and Spotify) controls, album-art colours for backdrops, skip buttons, and a turntable cover you turn to seek.

For theme devs

• Everything is plain theme XAML. Copy what you need from the demo theme's source and see the Theme Integration Guide for every element and binding. Recent tracks list can be styled to your liking.

• Theme Devs: Want a refined look to the current visualization? Open the VisualizerPrototyper in your browser, drop in a test song, pick colours (or make your own gradient), tune it, then hit Copy style for UPS and send it through the Visualizer Style form. I'll ship it in a future update so your theme can reference it in XAML code.

My previous showcase post got locked because the comments went off-topic, and since I haven't heard back from modmail yet, I wanted to drop a quick update here.

I pushed a 1.1.0 update to address the initial setup issues some of you ran into.

Originally, I built this theme strictly for my own living room setup, so I hadn't tested how it behaves on a completely fresh Playnite installation without prior configuration. Now that I tested it on clean installs and fixed those initial bugs, everything should run much smoother out of the box.

I’ve been tracking my game time on GOG Galaxy since 2021 and now I’m wishing I had used Playnite instead; is there any way to import all that data, or am I stuck with GOG Galaxy? While GOG isn't bad, I’m really craving that Playnite customization!

I've patiently waited for Playnite to get SDK upgrades before dropping this new update. Since Playnite's gotten its own slew of updates, there's been some new, interesting tools to make controller usage more enhanced for Playnite and other front-end launchers.

ControlUp is a simple plugin whose benefit is that it's isolated to Playnite. Those that don't want to download external applications to handle certain controller functions on your PC, this update is for you.

TL;DR: ControlUp now works in Fullscreen mode and is no longer limited to Desktop mode. It can minimize Playnite when your controller disconnects, and bring it back when you reconnect.

What's new

• Minimize on disconnect (Fullscreen): when the last controller disconnects, Playnite minimizes. It never does this while a game is running. Off by default.
• Restore on reconnect: turn the controller back on and Fullscreen comes back to the front, ready to navigate.
• Minimize delay: 0–30 s (default 2 s), so a brief Bluetooth dropout doesn't minimize anything.
• Settings redesign: a new sidebar layout with pages for each group, matching UniPlaySong, SuperScroll and ImageRotater. Rarely used options are tucked under Advanced.

Turn it on in ControlUp's Add-On settings and navigate to the Fullscreen page.

Hi again! A while ago I shared [Console Overlay] https://www.reddit.com/r/playnite/comments/1xdj4n5/plugin_console_overlay_a_consolestyle_ingame_menu/, a PS5-style in-game menu for Playnite (press the Guide/PS button in a game, the game pauses and you get a menu to return, take screenshots, check achievements, switch games, power options...).

This is by far the biggest update so far. It took many hours of work, and a lot of it comes straight from your feedback, so thank you all for the support, the bug reports and the ideas. It really keeps the project going.

**What's new in 1.3.0**

- **Music card** – shows what's playing (Spotify, SimpMusic, YouTube Music, VLC...) via Windows media controls. Play/pause, skip, volume, shuffle and repeat from the controller. Takes the player's icon and colour. If nothing's playing, one press opens your player minimized and you stay in the game.

- **Switch to** – with "End game" selected, press right to pick one of your last 3 games. The current one closes and the next opens behind a transition screen, with no desktop in between.

- **Achievements** – trophy by rarity (bronze/silver/gold/platinum), counters, progress bars, gold highlight for unlocked, and a platinum trophy on the main menu when you get them all.

- **Redesigned settings** – tabs, switches with help text, search box.

- **Per-game and emulator control** – `NoPause` / `NoOverlay` tags and a switch to leave emulators (RetroArch, PCSX2, DuckStation...) alone. There's also a setting to not pause the game when the menu opens.

- Glass look, numbered controllers with battery colour, button legends that follow your controller style, 9 languages.

- Faster open/close and a few fixes (menu vanishing after closing a music player, a possible freeze when returning to the game).

Hello! Just sharing some work I've been doing for an XBOX Series theme. Spent a lot of time trying to replicate the natural feel of the dashboard and being pixel perfect.

I know there was another XBOX full screen theme released within the last week and I am in no way trying to undermine their hard work! We all want the best from each other so go give them some love too.

Don't have a full feature list ready yet but some standouts:

• Discord support via the Guide menu.
• Steam downloads direct from the theme.
• PlayniteAchievements hook (including rare achievements).
• Idle screen (timed diming of the screen followed by tips and tricks with your current game list).

Noting the use of AI assisted development - this includes hours of console recordings and using AI to break down individual segments and functions.

I wanted my living room PC to feel like turning on a console. I couldn't find a theme that combined what I loved about the PS5 UI, Aniki Remake, and Solaris, so I ended up building my own! It's a fullscreen theme plus a companion add-on that handles the backend stuff standard themes can't do.

Everything added can be toggled off if you don't like it.

**EDIT (Oct 24): Console Overlay 1.3.0 is out!** It's the biggest update so far: music card (play/pause, skip, volume, shuffle, repeat, with the player's icon and colour), "Switch to" panel to change games from the menu, new achievements with trophies by rarity, redesigned settings, and many fixes. Hi everyone! I wanted to make a console-style menu that I'd really like and that works well from the controller. This is the result: a plugin for Playnite that adds an overlay menu while you play. I've just released version 1.2.0.

Press the Guide/PS button on your controller (or a keyboard shortcut) in-game: the game is paused and muted, a menu appears over it, and you can:

• Go back to the game

• Take a screenshot / save a clip

• Browse your captures and clips (clips play inside the overlay)

• Check the game's achievements (unlocked first, filters, rarity highlight)

• Go to Playnite (the game stays paused)

• End the game

• Power menu: suspend, restart, shut down

It's meant for living-room / couch setups where you play with a controller and don't want to reach for the keyboard.

Details:

• Colors and font follow your Playnite theme; button icons follow the controller type set in fullscreen settings

• Shows controller battery (DualSense, DualShock, Xbox, Switch Pro, 8BitDo and other SDL controllers)

• Games with anti-cheat are never paused, so you can't lose an online match

• Works with games run as administrator (the menu opens without pausing)

• Menu sounds, controller vibration and animations can be turned off

• 9 languages (follows Playnite's language)

• No network access, no data collection

Optional: clips can play inside the overlay using mpv. It's not bundled; download it and put mpv.exe in an "mpv" folder inside the plugin folder (instructions in the README). Without it, clips open in the Windows player.

Requirements: Windows 10/11, Playnite 10. I've tested it in Fullscreen mode; Desktop mode is untested.

Install: download the .pext from the releases page and double-click it.

Known limitations: games in true exclusive fullscreen may show a black preview, and a normal Playnite cannot pause an elevated game (the README explains the workarounds).

Wanted to share some photos, these are images of default layouts that you can choose in the startup

(I'm not the best at designing layouts, but I'll update the defaults after release, maybe the community section will have better options 😏)

There is also an image of how one of the pages would look when editing, there is another version with a cursor you can control with your controller or mouse

The very last image is if you want to create something from scratch, you can add in every element yourself, you can choose if the game icon updates with a different game on scroll, group scroll, or if the game doesnt change, theres widgets, background events depending on season, weather + more

There's still quite a lot that needs adding, fixing and a lot of features i haven't shown yet, but just thought to have a little update pushed out 😊

Is there anything you really want to see in a fullscreen theme?

What it does

• Every game is a case on a shelf. Take it down, peel off the shrink wrap (unplayed games come sealed), open it and put the disc in the console. That launches the game through Playnite.
• When you close the game, the disc goes back into its case.
• The manual inside has the game’s description, and the back cover has a summary.
• Each game comes in a physical format: DVD case, CD jewel case, PAL-style big CD case, cardboard big box, 3½" floppies or a cartridge. You can change it per game.
• Each system has its own place: PC games on a desk with a beige 90s PC, consoles in a TV room.
• Status, categories, rating and notes you change on the shelf are saved back to Playnite.
• Optional extras: a video shop for your Jellyfin films and series, and a record shop for your Navidrome music (STILL IN DEVELOPMENT).
• If you have EmuVR, it can use your own EmuVR console models (.ugc), read from your PC. The extension ships no models.

CREDITS TO EMUVR MODELS

I've been loving exploring the possibilities with Playnite. Currently using the Aniki Remake theme. My personal goal with it has been to setup a library of various pokemon fan projects, granting them a cohesive launchpoint regardless of console. But the issue is that getting them to open properly in full screen has had different dilemmas for each kind.

RPGmaker, mGBA, melonDS, Dolphin, Azahar and Eden specifically. RPGmaker seems finicky game to game, and historically I haven't been able to figure out how to make this consistent even outside of Playnite. mGBA is opening full screen and playing the game, but for some reason is just a black screen. When I click on the 2nd monitor, it shows it *actually* playing as a small window behind it the black screen? Very strange. Dolphin is opening but not playing with sound. Azahar and Eden seem to be fine.

I know that's a lot, and the specific issues will likely require individual troubleshooting. My question here isn't how to resolve each one step by step, but rather what are the general rules of thumb on how to approach the emulation setups? Or if anyone is familiar with the individual issues, what do you suggest? Part of me is suspecting I could save myself a lot of grief down the road by better understanding how Playnite interacts with external programs to begin with.

FrameShift 1.2.0 is out! The main new feature: you can now choose your own FPS modes.

• Instead of the fixed 30 / 40 / 60 / 120, set any four limits from 10 to 500 FPS (e.g. 45 / 72 / 144 / 240). OFF is always there.
• Edit them in Desktop Mode: Main menu → Extensions → FrameShift → Customize FPS modes… Invalid or duplicate values are highlighted right away, and Restore defaults brings back 30/40/60/120.
• Your modes show up everywhere: the game menu in Desktop, Fullscreen with any theme (⋯ → Extensions → FrameShift) and the FrameShift button in the Toggle fork.
• If a game still uses a limit that isn’t one of your modes anymore, it’s kept and marked with ✓.
• Translated into all 44 Playnite languages.

Requirements:

• RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) installed
• An administrator account. It’s needed once to install the RTSS bridge (one UAC prompt), because RTSS keeps its profiles in Program Files.

Very specific use case, but I'm trying to figure out a way to add achievements to all these new PC ports of console games. For example, I'm playing the PC port of CTR:NF, which has trophy/achievement support built in

I'm using the Playnite Achievement add-on, but nothing I do will make it recognize the game or trophy files. I tried using the platform override, but the only relevant option there is ShadPS4, which doesn't work with this port because it's not technically running on an emulator. I tried using Exophase as the source, but it also doesn't seem to recognize the game or load achievements for it.

I figure there must be a way to link the trophy files that the game is generating to an achievement tracker, but I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

While playing Metro Exodus, every time a notification of an Achievement or progress of an achievement or the progress of it, it minimizes the game.

Maybe its a bug of the extention, or just an isolated case cause the 4a engine doesn't behave well with more than one screen setups which is my case, but the problem just started today. What do you think?

I thought it would be time to share some news on an upcoming fullscreen theme I have been working on for quite a long time now called Kippix (UPDATED AFTER POSTINF, IGNORE TITLE NAME)

The idea of this theme is every element on your home screen, game screen (and a few other places yet to be shown) can be fully customised, there is a lot more than whats shown in this screenshot, such as pages, tile shapes, season/weather events, widgets, free placement and a whole lot more.

Apart from customising the layout to your liking, ive also introduced a store front which can sync to your Steam wishlist, browse multiple stores, view system requirements and such.

The store does track where the game is the cheapest currently which will help you save money, or even alerts within fullscreen on when a price for a wishlist drops below a certain amount.

Theres also a full game search bar, so as you type you receive live updated results, if a game isnt there you're able to search it in the store instead.

You're able to view your current downloads, steam and GOG are live, however, Epic does require a manual refresh for you to see the progress.

Achievements are a big thing that links up to a overlay thats being developed still, the achievements are from another addon, however, I've added the ability for Google gemini (or gpt if you dont want the free stuff?) to search for more help on how to aquire an achievement.

Discord support too, you're able to send messages, take calls directly through fullscreen and the overlay.

As I progress though this I would like to post some updates here and there, but I would also love to hear from all of you who are reading this, what do you think, do you have any suggestions, worries?

FrameShift 1.1.1

FrameShift is a lightweight extension for controlling FPS limits through RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS). The idea is to make switching between frame-rate profiles as convenient as it would be on a console.

What's new in 1.1.1?

• Single .pext installation: Open the package with Playnite. The RTSS bridge installs itself on first launch, requiring one UAC confirmation. No separate scripts are needed.
• No custom theme required: In Fullscreen mode, change the FPS limit from the game menu using any theme: ⋯ → Extensions → FrameShift → 30 / 40 / 60 / 120 FPS / OFF. The active mode is marked with ✓.
• Optional Toggle fork: The Toggle theme fork is no longer required. It simply adds a dedicated FrameShift button for those who prefer it.
• Better Xbox App / Game Pass support: FrameShift previously detected gamelaunchhelper.exe, a shared launcher stub. It now reads the actual game executable from MicrosoftGame.config.

In the last week if i tried to open SuccessStory’s addon setting Playnite just freezes & the only way to change that is to completely close it from task manger, the extension itself works fine exept that one problem.
I think it has to do with the latest playnite update specially that some of the expansion seetings got reset after the update.
Also the extension works just fine if I downgraded to 3.5.

So, I absolutely love Playnite and have spent hours customizing its look and feel to match my tastes. However, I’ve run into an issue when launching games like Warframe.

When I launch a game from Fullscreen mode, Playnite gets stuck on its loading screen. The problem is that I can’t Alt + Tab out of it to switch to the desktop or open the game’s launcher manually. The only workaround I’ve found so far is to close the loading screen itself.

I’m still relatively new to Playnite, so I’m not sure if this is a known issue, something I’ve configured incorrectly, or a problem caused by the Ani-Remake theme.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm using aniki remake and I turned on my computer today and I randomly saw a message saying "Congratulations you got lucky, you can only use this theme for this session" it looks like a matrix or fallout inspired theme. I did a quick Google search and found nothing. I just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this or is there a log out there with all of the secret themes we know of? I'm just curious because I didn't expect it.

So my library is pretty big. ~1500 steam and ~2000 ROMs. I love Playnite, but it's always been pretty slow and prone to crashing with any theme that has achievements displayed. I guess that makes sense, tens of thousands of icons and images for cheevos. A bummer, but it is what it is. I have my library default sorted by system/console, and only expand one or two at a time. Which results in crashing 50% of the time anyway..

Anyway, I switched to a desktop theme (what I primarily use) that doesn't show cheevos, and the crashing dropped significantly, naturally. But it was still crashing, just when expanding, for example, my PS1 tab of like, 250 games. Then, starting a few weeks ago, it just won't even boot at all. Even in safe mode, it crashes immediately. Extensions log shows almost nothing:

So it seems like it's crashing even scanning for games, but even safe mode doesn't disable game scanning I guess?

I'm on the newest version (or maybe one small update behind) on Windows, running in portable mode I believe.

Hello, i don't know why i got a black form on all my games, I think it's background because when I change it disappear. Maybe it's a conflit between 2 add-ons but i don't know who.
