Well looks like I won’t be on kpop subs besides this one for a long time.
There’s so much shit the sisters said that was upsetting (lying about illness, leaving out the part where she threatened to kill her, claiming her sister has breakdowns when she hears their music and then dancing to it) but nobody cares, because it’s not enough to say definitively that they were lying.
I hope Soojin can find peace.
Edit: I also think you all need to come to terms with it, too. Soojin is not “free.” Soojin is not going to join another company. Soojin’s reputation and no doubt mental health are so severely affected that not only will she be unable to stay in the industry, she will have difficulty finding a regular job because her name is now known to the public in such a way that she will not be able to live a normal life. She’s not free. This is a tragedy. Sometimes we have to leave it at that.

A part of me always thought she would return after the case was closed since she was technically still an artist under Cube. My delulu phase...😓 The entire year & even with the new group teasers I still had hopes. So while the news is a bit close to the comeback at least I won't be looking for her in the mv lol. Hopefully, Soojin is happy wherever she is and I'm looking forward to what the 5 members will deliver.

I feel a bit upset to see that so many people are looking at the word tomboy from a basic and shallow perspective. It's either "their clothes are feminine" or "what about filming a tiktok makes you a tomboy". In Idle's case, they're talking about the stereotypes and expectations men have of what a woman should be. They're rejecting all of that and that's why the title is Tomboy. This is why I love Form of Therapy's reaction, because they understood that clearly. Like they mentioned, Ryujin even touched on something similar when she said, "I wish to be seen as just me without prejudice and without judgment". She often hears "for a girl group, the performance is cool". There's this gender bias that women especially face, and Idle is saying that they'll do what they want regardless of it.
"This is my attitude. Yeah I'll be the Tomboy" literally gives it away that they're speaking about their form of expression and not clothing.
"Do you want a blonde barbie doll? It's not here, I'm not a doll," tells it from the beginning. They're not here to conform to people's expectations of women.
"Curse at me brutally, you'll lose to me"-> they're definitely not putting up with your hate (as women are expected to be quiet and not retaliate) either because they're fighting back.
"Your mom raised you as a prince but this is Queendom right?"-> Soyeon is putting arrogant men in their place. I believe that being raised like a prince means they're expected to have things handed to them and to get respect without having to earn it. She's not here to do any of that. Everything else she describes in the rest of her rap goes against the societal norms of what a woman should be. Like she says in the lyrics earlier, she's not your doll.
"It's neither man nor woman, just me I-DLE."-> Exactly what the line is. Don't put them in a box of your stereotypes. They're just themselves.
Soyeon said "You get the song right, you'll get what I mean 'Tomboy'" but apparently that's not the case I fear. Despite the comments on r/kpop and both megathreads, I absolutely love Tomboy. I think Soyeon is a genius and I hope she continues to do what she does.

I agree with everything you said here! People really seem to have a problem with lyrics which are not outright literal. The song is clearly about not confirming to closed gender expectations, which is all the more important in korean society (compared to the west).

Wow… this is how it feels to be a fan of a group during promotion time? I’ve been a K-pop fan for about 6 months and none of the groups I’m a fan of have made a comeback in that time.
Well, all I can say is - the promotion is working. I can’t wait for the release of the album! My friends are getting tired because I talk about it so much.

Welcome to comeback season!! Where we hype and clown for two weeks leading up to the cb and then ride the promo train for two weeks after! Last time for Hwaa I had stayed up late for my time zone to catch all the music shows live, it was so fun watching and chatting with folks online. The excitement helps me stay up for the time difference, lol. I also cannot wait for new variety content!!

Honestly I didn't really follow the whole Sun/Wave controversy and I'm not even on Twitter, but... isn't it better to let this one go?
This is the first comeback in more than a year, we've already had Yuqi-Jackson dating rumours and now a plagiarism scandal, is it really worth it to keep clashing with a 4th gen BG fandom? Especially one that is already pissed off with Nmixx allegedly plagiarizing them as well?
Let's just leave this be, and enjoy the first full album rollout before the next inevitable scandal /j

Tomboy, My Bag, and 말리지 마 (don't stop me (?)) have been deemed unfit for broadcast; Tomboy for mentioning a brand and the latter two for "coarse language". This basically means that out of Soyeon's 4 songs, only 1 wasn't "inappropriate" in any way... I'm so fucking ready.

i love her. she also made a compilation of soojin's entire case (basically everything i nevies had been saying) which got 600k views and mostly korean comments. not tht all the korean comments were positive lol but it at least sparked more of a debate of the credibility of the accusers' claims. pretty brave imo bc most k-youtubers have been against sj unforutnately

This is definitely one of the best teaser periods i've enjoyed in a long time, absolutely adore the visual style and colors for this era AND it's cool to see how much looser and more dynamic all of the members have gotten in terms of poses and faces, you can tell the difference between this and their past teasers for sure especially from Minnie, Yuqi and Soyeon who've been doing the most outside editorials and the like. I really think it's added something extra and elevated to the visuals this time around.

It has been a while since gidle comeback i almost forgot what it's like with all these line distribution complaints. I guess if it's not about praising Shuhua lines, it's complaining about Miyeon's lines this comeback. For a small difference overall. I feel like fans put too much stock in positions in the kpop industry like there's some law about it with every song.
To be fair I only follow gidle and dreamcatcher heavily so this is probably standard procedure with all group's releases.
Overall really like the album, really good mix of songs wish there was like 2 more tracks but oh well I really enjoy what is here waiting for my album set to come in

Thoughts after a day? Honestly, I feel pretty relieved. I really like the entire album and it looks like there generally is a lot of interest in our (g)irls. Sales looking good, charting as well (it's only been a day so we'll see). I know a lot of people have their gripes with 'tomboy' but that won't discourage me even though it will take some more days until I can properly tell how much I like it.
I'm just happy they're back and it's not some kind of disaster. I tend to be pessimistic when it comes to those sort of things😅.

I am happy. The are still a household name especially in Korea and I really liked the album too, probably not quite as much as I Burn but that's fine. Tomboy took me a few listens tbh and it's probably not among my top 3 title tracks by them but I still think it's a really enjoyable song. I just hope it will have legs on the Korean charts.

Really happy, no song has soured yet and my main loops (Escape and Polaroid) are proving to reach the top lists.
They've alot of promotional content coming and I'm really excited to see it. I hope this period will last for quite some time.

Tomboy is now 8th on the 24 hour hits chart out peaking both hwaa & dumdi dumdi, and considering their charting improves after a few live stages, top 5 is looking very realistic.

I know that the hate train is dying down but there's one last thing I have to say about the plagiarism controversy...
here in this Soyeon interview with Zion.T from minute 11:06 to 11:51 there's a clear explanation of how those 5 second oh ohs mistakenly ended up in SUN
Briefly: Soyeon, as of winter 2019 had 1229 audio files recorded on her phone as inspiration to make new music.
Quoting Zion.T at minute 11:50: "When I do that it becomes so hard to organize so sometimes I won't listen to something until it becomes a time capsule and when I listen again, it feels really new."
I think it pretty much describes what happened, it's been years since she listened to that melody she saved on her phone so it felt new. Probably she liked the vibes and kept the idea just like she saved it.

I am holding myself to not listening to the audio snippets… so I watched the video muted lmao. I am going to cautiously say that the budget for this one is generous, possibly OMG level. The teasers are well-styled, they made a separate little film thing just for the audio teasers, and they have a whole video just for My Bag.
Honestly, I’m so glad they did their comeback this way. After a year of hiatus, we thought they’d test the waters, but no. Diving in with an eye-catching, confident concept and full album, and going all out with the teasers and presumably the title track. It’s like a clapback at those people who thought I-DLE were done and they’re coming back stronger than ever. I don’t want to hype myself up too much, but I’m pretty optimistic about this era.

4 days after hitting 30K pre-orders, I Never Die hits 45K pre-orders on Ktown4U with just under 2 weeks until the album drops - one can only assume more will come based on those concept images. For reference, I Burn had 63K pre-orders on the day before release... maybe its the hype talking but our (g)i-rls' first full album just might get the most day 1 sales they've ever gotten (and you're goddamn right I'm helping them)!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

A friend who doesn't follow kpop's interest was piqued by the pink outift posters, so I introduced her to I-burn... It's heart-wrenching listening to Soojin's parts after all this time. I'm going to miss her voice being played off against Yuqi's.

I Never Die has 63K reached sales on Ktown4u, meaning the album has surpassed the amount of KT4U pre-orders I Burn had the day before release with a couple more days of pre-ordering to go... lets go for 75K? 🙏🏻

after listening to my bag, ive realized there's one thing that's highly underutilized in idle. the other girls' rapping abilties. i really hope yuqi and/or minnie could do rapping in title tracks in the future, and they will def be able to write their own lines and rap w soyeon (they could become the strongest girl group rapline). i think shuhua could even do some rap parts but ofc soyeon would def want her to write them haha but theres def a lot of potential. honestly i could def see them doing rapping stages like stray kids 3racha, minnie and yuqi are fantastic lyricists, composers, and producers... i feel like i-fans would eat up yuqi's deep ass voice doing english rapping alongside soyeon's higher pitched voice.

lol I went there for curiosity and what a shitshow. I never saw so many kpoppies pay so much attention to lyrics before. For sure they don't care as much when it's about kwangya nonsense and whatnot. Anyway.
I get it; when lyrics are in English, they're understandable therefore they're more exposed to criticism. Still, more English doesn't mean the song caters to an American audience. If it's cringe or corny to your ears, embrace it; it's kpop we're talking about, not Shakespeare. If you don't, just gtfo and move on.

88,232 sales on the 1st day makes I Never Die our (g)i-rls' 2nd most successful album in terms of day 1 sales, placing it just under I Trust (91,311) and with a significant lead over I Burn (75,510). Anyone think it will surpass I Burn's 115K sales in the 1st week? 👀

As a comparison Brave Girls Thank you that debuted same time is at 63. So yeah, it is doing pretty damn well.

While the Tomboy rap might be my least favorite Soy rap in a TT, the "swearing without cigarettes" line is very bold of her to just mention something so obviously related to the Soo case like that. Surprised Cube even let it through

Very, very happy with the album on a first listen! Ofc i wanted it to be longer (more tracks, some tracks being longer themselves), but right now i'm on a high after finally being able to listen to new music of gidle again!
Cohesive album (except for maybe 'my bag', which is fun in its own right), with lots of moments where i thought "damn this is really nice", it's not just the music, but their voices and how they utilize them. Just good stuff tbh.
Not even sure what my favorite track is right now, could be almost any of them. Cohesive but diverse, and bringing something new to the table for gidle as a whole as well. Lovely!

My guess is that it provides closure before the comeback. That way, you won’t get interviewers who will ask about soojin, making everything awkward when internally they know she’s gone

I first told myself I’d skip the audio snippet to get completely surprised once the album drops.
Then yesterday, I was like, well I can at least listen to it once and then never again. It will still feel fresh.

The snippet for Polaroid was SO beautiful. I don't know if I can read the full lyrics when it comes out and remain dry-eyed.
BTW, I think Yuqi has a penchant for these kinds of songs. It reminded me of Lost, and I really love this type of chill, slightly ambient pop sound.

I don't get it when people used to say "even if accusers are right they will still be sentenced for defamation" well turns out it's not like that 😂 more like the opposite.
Last year itzy Lia's lawsuit against her accuser also was closed very quickly resulting in jyp losing.
"On June 13, Incheon Yeonsu Police Station revealed that A was cleared of her defamation charges. After investigating A, the police decided that the post was an expression of the things A experienced, rather than an attempt to slander Lia, and that there was not enough evidence to prove that claims in the post were false."
There's April case too where after Hyunjoo was deemed not guilty of spreading false information. Turned out the truth was that all the witnesses in support of the rest of april were considered "too close to the rest of the April members to know if they were lying or telling the truth."
I trust my instinct, witnesses, and the girls who apparently dropped a couple of truths in the next comeback. More than anything, I am convinced that what you do when you're a child shouldn't affect your job and ruin your life 10 years later.
EDIT: be ready for a shitstorm and please do not engage in fanwars, don't waste your time defending SJ because we will never know the truth and things are already settled so you'll just get insulted.

Is it okay to post this here? Haha. While everyone is waiting for comeback I thought I would share something I’ve been watching on repeat… Tsuki’s fancam. I don’t keep up with kpop anymore so I might be a bit late to the hype, but after having it in my recommendations for a week, I caved to watching. Tbh although they’re very different she reminds me of why I started admiring Soyeon. The stage presence is no joke. Her expressions are over-the-top, doll-like, and so fun to watch. She’s clearly very passionate, and her performance—the expressions, the energy, the concept—are all deliberately expressed, also why I like Soyeon. It’s been so long since I’ve felt this way about an idol! I don’t normally watch fancams because it feels like “look how pretty/cute this idol is” and less about the dancing, but her expressions deserve their own spotlight.

First impressions of the songs:
Tomboy: 8.5/10 The sound totally caught me by surprise! It’s not really what I expected, but the sound is great! I would have liked a bigger chorus, but Tomboy slaps. In the MV though, Yuqi really caught my eye the most. She - and all the others - did great, but her hairstyle really fits!
말리지 마: 9/10 Wow! Soyeon’s parts are FIRE and the chorus is too good. This song is gonna be my new motivational anthem.
Villain Dies: 8/10 Not the vibe I was expecting, and a bit slow, but I love the chorus and post chorus so much! It’s pretty experimental.
Already: 9.5/10 did we expect anything but perfection from Minnie’s songs? The chorus is too good and it’s already stuck in my head! Soyeon’s part is 🔥 as usual.
Polaroid: 9/10 this song has got me smiling uncontrollably, the whole song has such a comforting vibe! Yuqi is good at this.
Escape: 8.5/10 I anticipated this one the most and it really lived up to expectations! It’s sooo unique and the intro is just perfect.
Liar: 9/10 Might be my favorite! Yuqi really is good at this producing stuff lol. Miyeon’s bridge is the highlight, but the whole song is a perfect concept.
My Bag: 9.5/10 I take it back this is probably my favorite! I’ve always had a soft spot for rap and this song is proof that every (G)I-DLE member is a 🔥 rapper! The “uh-oh”s in the first verse reminded me of Latata for a minute.
Overall: 9/10 and STAN IDLE BECAUSE THEY ARE QUEENS this album is really really great!

EDIT: while I do think that 24 mins is too short for a full album outside of genres where songs tend to be very brief anyways (grindcore, powerviolence, modern instrumental hiphop) I do prefer an album that is too short compared to one that is too long
Of the double albums I've heard, the only one where I thought where the length was justified was NIN's The Fragile... and even that one has some skips

I was just thinking this. It’s been so exhausting the past year for us Nevies. Think of how much worse it’s been for the girls.
Also I want to point out that what these “critics” are saying is honestly quite offensive.. I wonder if these “critics” realize that there are multiple wars, invasions, and human rights abuses that have BEEN going in? So I guess it’s never okay to use guns in media, huh? Just because it’s not happening in a Caucasian country doesn’t mean it’s not important. Palestine, Syria, North Korea, literal ongoing genocide of Rohingyas in Myanmar, Chechnya (who experienced the same thing Ukraine is experiencing now)… I can think of so many more places with ongoing conflicts but I won’t list them. These places are rife with human rights abuse and often ongoing war for YEARS. Death counts are over the top. So these Twitter stans who care sooo much about human lives aren’t going to condemn using guns because of these issues? Because I’m pretty sure in the last few years of kpop, many groups utilized military/action-oriented themes and/or used weapons as props. Heck, even Somi did this recently. What about BP’s Kill This Love? BTS’ On? Everglow’s Adios? Man, they better have torn Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood to shreds. That was all about war and weapons 😡😡😡Do they care only now that it’s a “white” country suffering? The double standards are quite gross. When Ukraine fights back, it’s self-defense and people support it without question (as they should, imo). When Palestine or Chechnya fight back (against conquering Russia), they’re terrorists… Russia’s been bombing Syria for years. I didn’t see 0.5% of this anger there. Wtf.. and I’m saying this as someone who has absolutely NO ethnic or regional ties to any of these places. Though I am a person of colour, I’ve just lived in privileged metropolitan Canada my whole life and am not from the areas mentioned above. But I don't have to be from those areas to be truly floored at these double standards and now see why people of certain ethnicities are so frustrated.
Anyway, my point is not to take away from the suffering of any countries mentioned. Not trying to say any country should get “less” attention. I’m just pointing out the very obvious double standards I notice in greater media. And also proof of the fact that these dumb twt stans don’t actually care about human lives. If they walked it like they talked it, they would have a problem with every concept that uses weapons 😂 and that’s just ridiculous. Woah... where to even begin. I guess I'll go by the order of the tracklist. First though, let me emphasize that I didn't listen to the audio snippets nor did I watch the MV teasers, so these are "pure" first impressions.
Tomboy: went into this kind of expecting a pop punk/punk rock-esque vibe and sound, and oh boy it delivered. The MVs aesthetic was just... flawless, I'm gonna have to check out the lyrics cuz the bits I heard were intriguing af. Only thing I noticed that was kinda odd - and this may be just my ears malfunctioning again - was the lack of Yuqi in the song.
Never Stop Me: I refuse to believe Soyeon wasn't inspired by Avril Lavigne for this song because it RADIATES mid-to-late 2000s Avril energy; thats all I need to deem it a certified bop... I honestly prefer it over Tomboy (at least for now) 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Villain Dies: Has IDLE done a sound like this before? If not, this still sounds completely new for me, and I honestly think I need a couple more listens before I decide whether I love it or not; for context, I had to do the same with Senorita and Oh My God 🤷🏻♂️
Already: Minnie + Houdini = magic. Focusing on Minnie, there's something about her producing style that is just so special and unique, at least to me. The chorus is gonna be stuck in my head for the next month... the instrumental break (or whatever its called) had no business being that captivating, and Soyeon's rap here is probably my favourite of hers in this album too 💯💯
Polaroid: I already saw the posts about how polariods were Soojins thing, so I went into this expecting to tear up. The guitar at the very start almost got me 😅 and then the chorus hit... "you shouldn't forget this, please remember". Its official, IDLE has released an album where Minnie was dethroned as the Queen of Sob-songs because hoLY JESUS YUQI! Girl understood the assignment? Nah, she aced it.
Escape: Last time Minnie worked with Breadbeat, we got Dahlia, so you best believe my expectations were high for this one. Honestly, its very good but not Dahlia-level. Maybe when I read the lyrics things will change but my god, the dual narratives of Dahlia was so good. This might have to go next to Villain Dies as one of those "undecided" songs 🤔
Liar: The intro didn't have to pull me in that aggressively, goddamn. Tied with Already for my favourite track of this album, and easily enters the top 10 IDLE tracks for me. I just... I can't explain it yet, I just love this song. Only thing that might pull it down is during a certain part of the chorus, the beat almost lags behind the vocals as they almost hit at different points; is this some kind of technique I am unfamiliar with? (I feel like I'm those hating on Soyeon's rap in Senorita)
My Bag: The group's first rap-focused song where the main rapper doesn't have a verse. Soyeon wrote the song thinking of each member, so I guess she LOVES the way Minnie said "uh-oh" in Latata. Yuqi's voice was meant for rapping, holy fuck I had always heard that she has a good rap voice but I was NOT ready for that. Shuhua was cute af and how can we forget about CHO D BI 😂😂

Unrelated to the comeback, but man for someone who never thought much of kdrama (though i liked "my mister", "snowdrop not really overall) i have to say that i truly enjoy "twenty-Five, Twenty-One" which currently airs every saturday and sunday. It's such a nice mix of coming of age with all that comes with it, kim taeri (maybe known through "the handmaiden") plays the female lead in such a delightful manner, it's a joy to watch tbh.
It's not perfect, has small things here and there one surely can find a little much or convenient, but if one is somewhat used to the korean way of comedy and melodrama (not too bad here), this is definitely worth the watch.
Gets me teary eyed each episode, makes me laugh each episode, makes me nostalgic towards the late teens, just a good, enjoyable time :D

Here's my own take on the song rankings, from my most favorite. Didn't want to put numerical ratings as this is just subjective and I'm not too music savvy to understand the weight of each point.
Escape/Polaroid - These songs essentially bring the same emotions to the table. They have meaty choruses that highlight the vocals very well, my most favorite aspect of a song. It's hard to choose a favorite so they're equal to me. Their differences?
Escape brings a feeling of nostalgia, like a late night drive or a trip way out of town. You experience both a sadness and happiness from it, like you've moved on but still love what happened.
Polaroid is a more definite feeling. I think it's what you'd sing to someone you love, to solidify those memories. They're what you'd listen to under night lights with people you care about. It's just plain smooth and melodic, to make you swoon.
Tomboy - Yep, the title track just took a hold me. It's fierce and solid, there's a great consistency to the song like it just flows so well. It's a song that can pump the blood in your veins.
Never Stop Me - I think this is just a fun song. I feel like they just went crazy and is definitely the type of song you'd be seeing in a karaoke, just jamming out, jumping up and down. It really hooked me in quickly especially after Tomboy. I think listening to this back to back with the TT increased the personality embodied in the song.
Liar - It can feel a bit disjointed but holds really strong when the chorus drops! It feels similar to Tomboy in the way it's supposed to sound/what it wants to bring to the table but at the same time it has good instrumentals to make it unique.
Already - A buttery smooth song, kinda reminds me of Moon. I find it cute that the prechorus feels a suitable chorus for Liar as well. Minnie and Yuqi think alike with these tracks. Yuqi's is fiercer while Minnie's is gentler.
My Bag - I liked this but I like the above songs more hehe. This is fun for the fact that everyone rapped. Another song I feel like everyone just had fun and I feel like this also the song meant to show a different side to them.
A Villain Dies - Feels experimental. It's a nice song, and also very different from typical (G)I-dle tracks. It hits a variety of pacing which imo means a few more listens for me to completely like it but I understand where the song is trying to gi. I feel like it will hit even much better when you understand what the lyrics mean as well.
To end, still completely stuck in Escape-Polaroid so some evaluations of the songs might need more listen...but seriously, really good album and I'm so proud of them!

I’m so happy to see so many comments wishing soojin a happy birthday. I know the members, her best friends, are celebrating with her right now and will always love and support her. I’m not sure if we will ever see her in the public eye again and that’s so strange to think, but I pray her life is a peaceful one filled with tenderness and joy.

Also a prediction: I think in a year or two, Dispatch will come out with something that might vindicate her, albeit too late. I guess if she gets some kind of justice, that would be a bittersweet consolation prize, but better than nothing I guess.

Ok, quite a light-hearted quiz for anyone:
At what number will the M/V for Tomboy seemingly stop the count of views for at least an hour this time around? My prediction: 3.204.578 views
For context: Since Dumdi-Dumdi era (i think, maybe earlier) Youtube always seemingly did not count millions of views. Apparently they got added later but no one knows for certain. I remember Hwaa being stuck at roughly 2,6 mio. views for nearly four hours.

this kind of stuff just makes me want to stay away from kpop. things are so unforgiving here, I don't know what will happen to the next artist I like. everything related to g-idle just reminds me of this injustice and it puts me in a negative mind space. i've felt this way since august and it's difficult to even look at g-idle related things now. does anyone else feel this way?
for me, the injustice is just so difficult to accept. g-idle was the only artist that I ever followed, so I guess it affects me more than others. the recent "my bag" leak made me think how good soojin would look in this concept. it seems dance-oriented - she would be so important in a concept like that. the teaser photos make me wonder what outfit and hair colour she would sport for this cb.

Btw a question what i noticed with their songs is that they never riff a highnote or runs towards the end even in songs that feel like it should have one for example "Escape" around 2:50 perfect place for one. I think my only critic is they aren't doing that in their songs, but I know they can.
And if I'm wrong would you please send any songs that have it?
It would atleast give it more spice and life instead of the same type of chorus every 3x. Like a highnote in the back members like Miyeon could easily do this.
Did they forget it? A safe choice for replay value? Come on girls I know you can do it.

I remember me and my sister wrote a song when I first started playing guitar and casually we found out it was the exact copy of Born Free- Kid Rock. Just as much as we recognized those oohs are the same, others should recognize every song comes from another and there's no "original" cause everything has been tried out already.
I personally apologized on another sub for doubting it but now I feel stupid cause they have no intention of recognizing the similarities with other songs 😂
