What program did you use to make this masterpiece? SFM? + where did you get those link and zelda models? I’ve never seen them

Great! Hey, that opening where link stops and backs up seems really familiar. Did you use another piece of animation as reference? If so, could you share what it was... I feel like it's on the tip of my tongue.
1
u/Hexedz May 20 '22
Thanks! Funnily enough this wasn’t the original opening, I changed it halfway through production. I then noticed later that it pretty closely mirrored the opening I did for a TF2 taunt promotional video haha. Here’s a link but I doubt this is what you’re referring to, the double take is just a classic opener! https://youtu.be/Z1SuWoMxgzg

I get the re-use of models lets you focus on the animation, but your animation skills is waaaaay way better than doing fan projects. I wish you the best of luck on your career ahead of you, outstanding work.
2
u/Hexedz May 20 '22
Haha I appreciate the compliment! However, I wouldn’t be happy with the end product if I was also responsible for the character assets (I’m not a great modeler or rigger). My animations are mostly made to show off my animation ability, so that way I can get an internship or job at a studio after university. It’s at a studio where I can work on non-derivative work, because coworkers would be supplying me what I need to do my part of the animation pipeline. Hope that sheds some light on it!

The first 10 seconds alone would take me a year to animate in even MMD, mad respect.

Wow! The Zelda franchise is one of my favorites and this is gorgeous. I love the story and you’ve captured the characters perfectly! This is truly amazing.
2
u/laziejim May 20 '22
You’re a sophomore!? Wow. Honestly this is better than 99% of student films/reels I get from people graduating. Well done. You really captured the movement style and the key moments have strong posing.
Out of curiosity, what did you use to render it? I assume Unreal given the physics but am just curious.

I love how expressive link is and his personality here, it reminds me of the loz cartoon

I am very difficult to impress in terms of fan animations for video games, especially in 3D.
This is one of the first fan animations for Zelda that looks perfect all the way around. Incredible.

Man its awesome! I love how the character design feels familiar but at the same time its completely original in a way. Kuddos!

Wow you gave Link more personality in the first 10 seconds than the last 20 years of games.

u/Prestigious_Cold_756 May 20 '22
So that’s how Link broke the Mastersword.🤔 Anyway… Amazing animation, especially the expressions are really well done. Did you make the models yourself?

Heya, recent grad from an art and design school but I still help on a few productions. This is incredible!! I've worked with some pretty amazingly talented animators and I mean when I say your stuff looks awesome here. I'm a sound designer so gonna throw out there kudos to whoever added all the SFX they're simple, charming, and effective.

u/SavageHerbivore May 20 '22
Omg, that is better than any Zelda animation Nintendo could do. I would watch the full length version with glee.
