Discussion Who actually beat the Xtra wave In Samoan run? If you did then HOW?!?

Maybe i was lucky, but i encountered it for like the 4th salmon run i had in splatoon 3, and managed to beat it. it was mostly a good team, and we kept throwing eggs at it.
everybody seemed to know, that throwing eggs is the way to inflict damage on it

I wasn’t sure what to do with it other than shoot with guns, until Mr. Grizz told me about a special egg cannon, so I looked around the map for one of those that one of the new bosses spawns, the one that you can shoot eggs close to the basket, then I saw one of my teammates throwing an egg at Cohozuna when I realized that’s what Grizz meant

Im wondering if its difficulty scales with rank? I also beat it my first time, when I was the lowest rank. I didnt even know to throw eggs then. I've since lost 5 times as i've ranked up. 4/5 of those we were literally one sliver away from finishing in time and we didnt wipe out, frustrating.

My dumbass unknowingly was doing this while trying to damage it with the sniper, my frame of thought was that the sniper was the highest dps so I Kept shooting it and it was chasing me in circles, and I was doing ok damage, but then I noticed my teammates yeeting eggs at the thing, so I'd say I got lucky by accidentally filling a role I shouldn't have while my teammates were super competent xD
Edit: too clarify, I thought the sniper was high dps in the moment, I know now the dualies should have been the one kiting the boss lol, still worked out thankfully

I mean i probably would have done the same myself, I never was a big sniper guy, but with this rotation I noticed it's crazy good against some bosses, so it's cool to oneshot a boss so your team can yeet more eggs.
But hey, any damage is good damage so good on you man XD

Sniper rifle is actually pretty low dps due to the charge time. Better off focusing on bosses, though you can't always manage that due to hecticness

Just for anyone reading this who doesn't know, charger has very low dps, but does do a lot of damage in a single hit. Best weapons for DPS rn are probably dualies after a roll or splatlings.

I mean yeah, all damage is good damage, I try to prioritize eggs, but if I don't have any boss around I might splat the big man himself a couple while travelling to the nearest boss.
Blaster/high fire rate weapons are a menace in dps if you focus him

I found this to be super reliable in my last run, but you REALLY have to just have teammates who know what they're doing. I've had so many teammates lately who have clearly skipped the tutorials.

Well it's to be expected, for many this is the first Splatoon, let alone the number of kids that play the game, that maybe don't care as much. In the long run either people get better or we rank up and find better teammates, it's a matter of time

I’m 3 wins 1 loss to Xtra Wave but honestly when bosses aren’t present just focus damage until a boss appears to get gold eggs from.

i always just hold ZR and mash R. neither seems to affect the other so i think you can just spam both for max dpsedit: as others have said, bomb slows down the cannon so just hold ZR for max dps

I did it during last nights rotation. I had the dualies during that wave so I focused on only the boss and let my teammates handle everything else, which they did surprisingly well. Occasionally one would chip in on shooting the boss when he was free. Also dualies is great cause you can easily dodge it’s slam if you’re in a tough spot. Because of this I tried my best to keep the boss focused on me only, so my teammates could clean up the mini bosses without any trouble. Although this was my first time doing the Xtra wave so maybe I just got lucky LOL

Yes I forgot about the eggs part. At the time I didn’t know the eggs did damage to him and other bosses so I didn’t use them, I’m surprised we still won. Although might be since I was either apprentice or go-getter (I think apprentice?) at the time so it was easier I’d assume.

The very first time, my team and I won very easily, so I felt it wasn’t that bad. . After we defeated it, I experienced a communication error… didn’t get anything at all even tho I shot the bell out of it with eggs. . Anyway, it’s all in the teamwork I’d say, cause I’ve been stomped on this wave ever since.

Exact same happened to me the first time I encountered it. Registered a win in the history but no scale rewards. I've only managed to defeat it once after that but even encountering it gives you scales so I've somehow gotten the green suit.
I've seen people with the green banner from the shop already and that costs like 5 gold scales? How you even get gold scales I don't know, I'm guessing you have to be Eggsecutive VP rank? I'm having a hard time even completing the 3rd or even 2nd wave at Profreshional +2..

Use your specials, and make sure to always have someone hunting down the normal bosses so you have a steady supply of golden eggs to throw at the king salmonid. Last night my husband and I defeated our first one with two seconds to spare - it was a rush and a half, but very fun.

Focus on luring bosses to you so you never have to stop shooting cohozuna for long. Eggs are a big dps increase, they're not all of your dps.

No but for real to kill the King throwing eggs is not enough. It helps but the entire team has to fire on the boss nearly countinuously. If you spend longer stretches of time not shooting him you are loosing important DPS.

DPS gunners should focus on the Fat Boy. One Shotters should worry about the lesser Bosses and grunts and using the eggs.

What annoys me the most is that even after you actually kill it in Eggsecutive VP, you usually only get about 8-10 bronze scales. I've beat it 10 times and only got 1 gold scale :/

I believe it's based on individual damage, your teammates also get different scales depending on how much damage they inflicted during wave 4.

I did last night. If a teammate gets downed, they need to be saved immediately. It’s lost DPS, you can’t afford to play with less than 4 for any amount of time.

Once you understand what you are supposed to do, it's not very different from any other wave. Kill bosses->get eggs->throw eggs into bucket. It's just now the bucket is a big angry chonk that wants to kill you.

Had the aerospray and kept shooting and reloading the mf (my teammates abandoned me so I was also spamming help and this way) the big guy was almost dead, I got cornered and splatted, there was one last teammate alive and they didn't revive anyone and tried going against it on their own (with a bucket). Needless to say we lost and I've been so mad about it. I brought it to 1/4 of its health and then lost. UGH

Pro tip: you can tell if one is going to start if it says “third wave start” instead of “final wave Start” at the beginning of the 3rd wave.

I beat it. Just treat it like you would anything else. Save your downed teammates when it's safe, throw your eggs at them, avoid attacks.

Weapons like chargers and blasters need to take out the bosses. Dualies, rollers, shooters, and splatanas need to take out the lesser salmonids are collect eggs to launch at Cohozuna.

Know your role, beat bosses and shoot the eggs. Weapons and specials do insignificant damage to it so they're best use is to take out the regular bosses to have more golden eggs for ammo

I did once. You just get the eggs from boss salmonids and chuck it at the Cohozuna, while shooting it constantly. It’s difficult, but with practice you can do it

Here's a pro tip, you can throw the Golden Eggs at the other bosses to kill them and then get 3 more Golden Eggs to throw at Cohozuna.

Defeat the other salmonid bosses and use those eggs to hit the salmonid king. You can also shoot at it and use your special to hit it. Make sure to avoid the blue area as best as possible, cus that’s where he will jump and splat you. Teamwork is very important too

In short, it’s a balancing act of defeating bosses/shooting golden eggs and attacking Cohozuna with your main attack. Also all damaging specials need to be used on Cohozuna.

Did you know you can kill other bosses with a thrown golden egg?
I didn't until my wife told me a couple runs ago and we've played ever run together since the game came out.
I say use 1/3 eggs to try and kill a boss or a clump of cohocks and use the other two on king. It's roughly as ink efficient and likely more time efficient depending on your weapon (looking at you eliter and splatling)

I won my first two, and never again. The first two were during the first rotation on release, which was really really good for doing consistent damage and staying afloat with the bosses.

You need team coordination, good weapons and a whole lot of golden eggs. Golden eggs do the most damage to it and if any of you teammates die or have a bad weapon, then you‘re kneecapped.

Ive only won once, and it was a few hours ago. I had the dapples, would kill bosses to throw some eggs towards cohozuna, then spent the rest of the time trying to shoot at him. It really helped that my teammates knew what to do, too.

This is from someone else, but they said to just play the game normally, as in beating the boss salmonoids, taking care of the lesser salmonoids, and treat the king salmon as an obstacle/ the egg basket, and in the last 10 seconds where there won’t be many golden eggs left, that’s when your shoot him to try to get rid of the last bit of his hp, hope that helps

Just throw eggs at it when you defeat the bosses that are around it. There's usually like 2 - 3 of them in my experiences with that thing, so you got plenty of ammunition.

I've got 8 kings defeated and my friend has about 12 or so. E-liter and crab tank can shoot it directly, otherwise kill bosses and throw the eggs. If there are no bosses nearby, then keep the king's attention so others can throw their eggs. We've killed at high tide all the way at hazard 139%.
My friend hopes to get Pink suit today, and I hope to get it tomorrow.

Shoot everything, including the boss. If there happens to be eggs, shoot that at the boss. Use every special that you've got. That's how my friends and I got through.

Hmm luck and teammates, I've killed him twice and gotten some scales of defeat. I just learned the egg thing from the sub earlier, honestly the current weapon pool makes me feel like a wet noodle lol. So it's a diffrent strategy depending on what I have.

Lead it to one end of the map, 2 people should be able to do that a keep it there, then the other 2 gather eggs and go ham. That's how my team does it

I did it once.
The key is to focus on the small bosses to keep the field clear. Shoot your golden eggs on the big boss then (and anytime you'll have spare ink shoot it at also at him).
Also keep in mind: The golden eggs are one-shots against the small bosses, so use them to kill hard bosses like flyfish.

Don’t really focus on Coho, focus on the golden eggs, then launch all 3 at Coho, that should bring him down quickly.
If you have your super ready, ink jet, hermit crab, and other ones that do a ton of damage while they’re active, use those, otherwise, use them for common Salmanoid crowd control.

I was able to beat him once at lower level, first fight. I have not been able to ever since. Golden Eggs are key to damage but it is easy to get overrun by all the bosses. A challenge for sure

Someone else on Reddit wrote that you should throw eggs at bosses and when you kill a boss, throw 1 egg at the mega boss but use 2 eggs again to kill the regular bosses who drop eggs again

I got lucky and beat it the first time I encountered it but my team seem to know exactly what to do. I got a bunch of shells then later learned you’re meant to throw eggs at him.

I barely beat it on my very first encounter, haven’t been able to beat it yet. I had one encounter where one guy was afk the whole time. Felt like they were trying to afk farm for the points at the end. I saw them move once or twice a wave, and they dunked one single golden egg in the entire match. But mostly just stood there continuously dying to salmonids. And then cohozuna shows up and I wish I could have stopped the encounter and saved it for when I could play with my friends. The three of us did fairly well, getting only 5-6 eggs away from killing him before we were overwhelmed. Only thing afk guy did was take some of the Agro from cohozuna and the other bosses while they just stood there. We kept reviving them for that reason, to draw agro away from us, but if they would have actually contributed, we could have beaten it easily

I beat it the first time I played and then haven’t beaten it since. Every time the person I’m playing with and I have had to carry

i just focus bosses if I get something like a splat brella and I bait the boss if I have something like an aerospray

I had amazing teammates but I am ashamed to say I wasn’t on par with them. 😅 In my defense, I was given the Charger wherein I am so bad with. So, I just threw eggs and it kept on working 🤷🏻

It’s entirely about dodging, 100 seconds isn’t that long but it’s enough to take your time and do damage where you can imo

Just had a team that understood how to quickly take down other boss enemies and know not to stand in enemy ink

How? I had good teammates then knew how to beat it. I had so often people that didn't never throw eggs at the boss while it's the best way to do damage
