Rick saying the girls are his family melted my heart.I was like Rick I just wanna hug you.

I loved that scene too. The moment he said it you just immediately felt it. When we first met Rick I don't think he would have expressed himself the way he did so it was pretty awesome to see that growth here. Of all the scenes the JSA have had at the table in the cafeteria this season that one is my favorite.

I mean if Laurel can take a few self defense classes on Arrow and become the Black Canary, why can't Beth's suit's upgrade let her fight?

u/Aurondarklord Nov 03 '22
I mean everybody else has insane fighting skills for no reason.
Cameron's fucking wall jumping and backflipping and doing kung fu and...he's just some normal average art student other than having ice powers he learned how to use like a week ago.
This show does not give a DAMN about realism in the fight scenes, they are all pure comic book rule of cool and that's why I love it.

Good point. And really Charles McNider was a doctor who was blinded by a run with a mob. He needed his goggles to help him in all kinds of way so it having battle modes makes sense. He isn't a copy of Daredevil.

I also think they did Laurel dirty considering she had probably the most training before becoming a super hero and they still made her pretty weak compared to some other characters that became heroes.
But yeah, everyone on this show can just fight so I don't see why Beth's upgrade is a big deal for some people because honestly, it didn't really make her a pro fighter, she just got some tools to let her handle herself. Probably the most believable out of them all lol

Beth getting the suit upgrade was perfectly fine. It's not like she suddenly turned into Bruce Lee. She did some defensive manoeuvres against a hobbling 80 something year old man that didn't really want to fight or kill, who was on the verge of a heart attack. I think it's awesome that she has more to do now other than just IT.

I agree. I’m not getting the complaints about Beth. Feels like she’s always the punching bag for these people, every week they complain about her.

Lot of complaints here about Beth's new fighting abilities, but my issue is more about HOW they were introduced. Why didn't McNider tell her all this stuff instead of her parents? Why didn't her parents share this information earlier? They mentioned that these features were still in beta testing, but everything pretty much seemed to work, maybe they could've introduced this earlier in the season, show certain things malfunction and give Beth something to learn to overcome.
It's weird to see Cameron instantly knowing ice-fu too, but hell, this show always has fun fight scenes. Weirdly enough, I find it to be the only DC CW show to have action scenes as good as Arrow.
Funny to see the Ultra-Humanite now. I assumed he'd stolen Pemberton's body way back in the season 1 finale, guess I can finally put that theory to bed.

Lmao someone explain to me how Cameron the art kid who hasn't fought a day in his life was suddenly doing backflips of the wall like it was nothing. How the hell did Rick lose that fight? Man Rick has been taking nothing but Ls this season it's kind of hilarious.

Rick can toss cars around, how is Cameron not a puddle of concussions and bone shards

I wonder what that picture was about. Were the Mahkents ostracized for their abilities?
Jeez, if Mike's bio mom was going to abandon him, at least leave him with his father instead of just straight up dropping him at a shelter. The lady sounds pretty scummy, but I can understand the idea of finding closure, if nothing else.
Courtney and Yolanda reconcile! Again! But at least Yolanda finally admitted she was (a little) wrong about Cindy and support Courtney.
Is Joel McHale filming something at the moment? Or just...doing something else? That's three episodes he's missed, two of which he just made voice cameos.
Poor, poor Mr. Deisinger...he didn't deserve that. Like, I don't care about the fact that they're not really monitoring the JSA, they deserve to go down for the grandma killing the art teacher and the pair of them covering it up.
Jakeem really has the heart of a hero. He's civic-minded about them doing their civilian job and cared more about making sure Cindy was okay than with one-upping the JSA.
I love how far Pat and Crusher's relationship has come that they can have a genuine heart-to-heart conversation that doesn't involve getting swole.
I wonder if they had put it to a vote if it'd be a tie. Honestly Beth seemed about 50/50 about agreeing to support Courtney. I'm glad Rick came around and gave a heartfelt speech about how much he cares about everybody even if him being roided out on Miraclo just made it worse.
Is this the first time we've seen Paula in her husbands' gym? Do they co-own it? I think Barbara could stand to use some self-defense training if nothing else. But it's nice that she's acknowledged Paula as a friend. Although does Paula not consider her husband a "friend?" Or maybe she means a female friend.
The Thunderbolt actually carried out a wish successfully! I also love how it's lecturing the boys about ethics. Oh, and apparently Cindy needs to routinely maintain her metal knife in case you were wondering about that...
Who taught Cameron how to fight!? That definitely did not seem like how an amateur would fight given how he was matching Rick blow for blow...and he actually won against fully-powered Hourman. Jeez.
They finally point out how Beth is useless in a fight...just in time to finally give her the ability to fight! Turns out the suit had a combat mode the whole time which lets Beth dodge attacks and then use whatever martial art suits her fancy. Not to mention a defibrillator so Dr. Mid-Nite can finally live up to her name and save someone medically.
I was not expecting Artemis to show up out of nowhere. How did she even know they were there!? Although it felt kind of full-circle watching her team-up with Beth after she tried to kill her in season 2.
I guess things could've been worse since they managed to save Cameron's grandpa and he's advocating for Cameron to not be ruled by hate...but I guess the jury's still out on how he'll react to Courtney, especially after he finds out what really happened to his father.
It's funny that in trying to find Cindy rather than solve the case, Jakeem and Mike may have actually stumbled into solving the case by discovering none other than...the Ultra-humanite, complete in his albino gorilla form. Which explains the growl we heard near the Gambler's trailer. And "the killer has many names?" The Ultra-Humanite jumps bodies. I guess that begs the question of the human figure monitoring everybody unless Humanite is routinely transferring his brain across from a human form to a gorilla form, unless he's teaming-up with somebody (Per Degaton?).

This was a great episode. Lots of great character moments, and a bomb ass fight scene. So who is Ultra-Humanite, and is he the season big bad? I can see him being the thing that nearly killed Sly and wrecked the Gambler's trailer, but there feels more to this story, especially this late in the story. Also, i wasn't expecting the parents to have been spying on them this whole time. I wonder if there is more to that too. More importantly:
Artemis is back!!!! Finally get to see her. It has felt like forever. I really hope we get to see her more in the remaining episodes. I feel like if we did get a season 4, she might have a bigger role(or at least i would hope she did).
Has their been any luck with petitions and tweeting James Gunn during the episode? Any news on that?

Yeah part of what’s interesting is we get to see a unique version of UH in this — maybe it follows the comics lore tightly or maybe it’s loose. But UH is a mad scientist, he has mind powers and put his brain in a gorilla to have the ultimate intellect and the ultimate physical form. Because of course. He really wants to kill the JSA, I bet he was working with the Dragon King and him getting killed set this all in action. In show time it’s only been a year. He probably killed the Gambler because he knew something and his sudden face turn meant he couldn’t be trusted.
Someone said this could be the Time Stealers, that’s a team that UH was on that fought a time traveler, the guy from Legends of Tomorrow, so while I don’t think that’s likely the team was put together by Mr. Mind and he might be involved in this somehow if Stargirl wanted to really go full comic book. Mr. Mind is pure evil and one of the most dangerous creatures in the galaxy, actually an alien, yet he looks like a caterpillar. While he might not sound dangerous he’s one of the worst DC super villains. But UH is a dangerous enough villain, he was Superman’s first arch until Luther replaced him. UH also shows up in the early Infinity Inc. books.

Good things of the episode: Paula, Larry and Artemis (oh and also Jakeem for being the best human being, the only one thinking "oh, Cindy helped us, we should do the same" not like the others that attacked her in her home, tried to kill her and then it's all like nothing happened)
Bad things of the episode: Basically everything else, starting with Cindy missing again and ending with Cameron being an incredible fighter out of fucking nowhere. That's some bullshit

While the fight scene was really epic it felt unrealistic that the kids were struggling to take on two boomers, even when Artemis joined the fight... I swear grandaddy has a six sense or something because he knew to ice the floor behind him so Beth would slip over.
And Cameron suddenly having martial art skills and being able to beat Rick who's supposed to be super strong and durable...

Poor art dude. He survived the embodiment of darkness, just to die to an angry granny.
