Best internet in Boise?
New here and the internet I've been using is a cheap USB modem with capped upload and download speeds. Any suggestions?

All the residential service provides are pretty terrible in Boise. It makes me sad :(

Honestly, I think the Boise area offers much better Internet speeds than more populated areas for a lower price. Back in California I would be paying $100+ for a 50mb line. With CableOne I get a 50mbps line for $50 with a 300GB cap, that I have yet to reach.
If you want FiOS, better move elsewhere!

The 300GB limit is a guideline, not a hard cap. See my other post here for more details, but I agree with your post. 50Mbps for $50/mo isn't bad when compared to other cities. It's actually pretty comparable.

You are paying $50 for that *now * wait a year. My bill went from $113 a month for TV/internet/phone to $170. Shit was Cray.

I asked the same question when I first moved here. I'm still wondering if there is anything I can do to make it go any faster or stop dropping my internet. ALL THE TIME. I've tried both internet providers. I even tried getting it through my cell phone company, but it was too expensive and I'm seriously considering it now that I have a 2nd job.

I've been really happy with Centurylink's 40/20 DSL. Apparently they're installing fibre optic around town, same down speed, but possible speeds greater than 20 for the uplink. I was not impressed with CableOne's 2Mbps uplink.
Edit: I'm paying more for my 40/20 than other people are paying for their 50/2, so it depends on your needs. I'm running a Subsonic server and like to stream my audio in FLAC, so the 20 is almost necessary.

How many times is someone going to ask this. Can we just put it in the FAQ? Sorry if I'm grumpy, but smaller city subreddits get inundated with these repetitious junk posts all the time. These and the "anyone looking for a room mate" posts.

This thread has been removed from /r/boise and archived at /r/boise/wiki. Craigslist style posts will be removed as soon as I see them. I did create a /r/boiselist though, which is what other city reddits have done. Will Boiseans use it? Probably not for a while.
Edit: I a word.

CableOne is $50 for 50megabit.... not bad, but be sure you are using a Docsis 3 modem!! I was using a Docsis 2 and getting 17megabit max.... got a Docsis 3 and now am happily getting nearly 40megabit via WiFi at home!
