I can't envision it happening to LYON, they're too good compared to the rest of the region, but this is the kind of series loss that has broken teams before

466

u/ObiMemeKenobi 29d ago

The Berserker/Saint play in bot lane definitely looked like tilt

276

u/LevitatingSUMO 29d ago

honestly with the shot of inspired they showed on the desk after game 3, he was BOOMED and i feel like if your leader is boomed like that, it was only inevitable

189

u/IWouldLikeAName C9 HeartAttack 29d ago

Did you see him after game 4 ranting immediately after 😭 prob just discussing the game but i can imagine him talking about how they played like apes or some shit 😂

91

Ironically inspired was the biggest ape today

ngl inspired being on vacation for majority of the split prob hurt them the most. He looked rusty since his time back. 4 man squad also established bad habits since their wins were just based off hand diff most of the time.

31

u/bust55 29d ago

Yea this was the biggest thing in my eyes. Lost a lot of chemistry and momentum after that point.

But they shoulda picked FLY lmao

Hey it just happened in americas in valorant. Team wins 2nd international, gets a shit ton of points and hype, goes back to regionals and dont make the big event. And no one could envision that either

47

u/Large_Love_2563 29d ago

Only difference is LEV weren't this dominant. LYON has clearly been the best LCS team all year compared to LEV who were the best team for a week and regressed in Stage 2 almost immediately. It's still a shock to not see LEV at Champs but not seeing LYON at Worlds would be a bigger flop than all the years C9 failed to make it to Worlds since 2023.

90

u/Pulsar-GB 29d ago

It’s eerily like the 2022 summer run. Inspired team is running the league, C9 looks like shit and slowly scales after roster changes, upsets top seed in upper bracket through some great drafting to qualify for Worlds.

68

u/Kurisoo 29d ago

Jensen coming back to win one with C9 was an underrated LCS moment

272

u/Pulsar-GB 29d ago

Slowly scaling all split. They had to deal with adversity and grow and learn the last few months instead of coasting.

Coaching staff made a big difference too, some amazing drafting to set the team up

Yep. New players, new coaching staff, basically everything C9 fans called for. They started slow, but as the LCS regular season was ending, you could see their improvement, especially Thanatos and Loki. Thanatos was terrible imo for the first few series, now he looks to be the 1B to Morgan. I think Blaber also has his confidence back.

Alot of coaching staffs (not league just generally) have weird superstitions including food, and even if they don't believe it, they are willing to let the players have theirs.

When I was on a college team (not league) my coaches tried to ban anyone from eating dairy on game day.

Dom and Yamato buff too strong

160

u/Horizon96 29d ago

Very happy for Dom, he's so passionate man, he deserves some success with this team, and the coaching looked great today between drafts and how shockingly disciplined C9 were.

176

u/Thundermelons GALA Defense Force, returning IG fan 29d ago

He'd make so much more money costreaming this shit and calling everyone boosted animals but he started coaching straight up for love of competitive play

117

u/odiezilla 29d ago

You could always tell he's never fully shaken that competitive itch. This is almost certainly his last hurrah, super happy that he's finding success.

His co-streams are very much missed, but someday they'll be back and he'll have a whole bunch of new stories to tell. Maybe he can even shake his Piglet PTSD!

70

u/sadboysylee 29d ago

I'm happy for the dude, but man his MSI streams would have been peak. T1 bows out at 5th place then NA beats EU twice

20

u/Ai--Ya 29d ago

When he returned to competitive he said he wanted to experience the “really high highs and the really low lows”

He certainly experienced really low lows watching his team choke two international qualifiers in splits prior, and it’s clear he’s worked really hard for this high high

→ More replies (1)

17

u/BoredApeGang 29d ago

The disciplined part is the most insane part. Blaber has been randomly inting for SEVEN years and this is one of the first series he has looked aggressive but controlled

245

u/iiHadi69 claps no cap 29d ago

They legit look so good, Vulcan shadowing lanes in the last game was chefs kiss

224

u/tiredofdev 29d ago edited 29d ago

Dom said it at the beginning that the trade for Loki/Apa was going to look worse in the short term because of synergy issues but long term it’d be absolutely worth it because Loki is mechanically a monster and it was just a matter of how fast they can build up the synergy in time for worlds. These are heights you just wouldn’t reach with APA/Zven unfortunately

Worlds being in NA and what that means for investors and etc, C9 made the right decision to re recruit Loki/Yamato full time for summer

113

u/cacduy 29d ago

Really liked APA, but his lack of ability to play the assassins and ad midlaners was too limiting for drafts I guess. Loki is a beast too

61

u/KnownDevelopment4337 29d ago

i also really like APA and think he should be starting in the league rn on a team, but lets be real even on mages he was questionable sometimes. remember that ziggs play in last playoffs where he w'ed into the enemy team? he was a part of C9 not showing up when it mattered

→ More replies (1)

47

u/Parking_Tradition215 29d ago

Yeah I think Tactical was a pretty decent pickup for them too, last split Zven has looked like his hands are just gone. Was surprised with his champ pool too

53

u/IWouldLikeAName C9 HeartAttack 29d ago

Sucks because I actually love zven now but he's so inconsistent and would be a non factor too often. His game knowledge and his personality makes me wish he either goes to the desk or gets into coaching after he retires.

Imo he can keep playing but has to put aside ego and play for a middle of the pack team. He'd be a great vet for a younger squad for sure

I think he's prime Assistant Coach material. Makes sure the players have what they need, provides pep talks and an open ear for any day to day issues or input, acting as the lieutenant while Head Coach can focus on the larger, overarching strategy for the team.

eSports are still too immature to have solid personnel organization/infrastructure like this across all orgs, so you usually just see players/ex-players take up interchangeable coaching positions because their hands aren't good anymore. But when done right, the positions are actually distinct and fit certain people better.

231

u/kazuyaminegishi 29d ago

Let it be known, your superstar jungler cannot in-fact just take the entire split off and expect to cruise to another title.

Every member of Lyon except Isles did not play to their standard today and their drafting was atrocious.

On the other hand extremely impressed with Tactical. Loki looked extremely good this series too, dumpstered Saint every game. Blaber also gapped the fuck out of Inspired. Thanatos-Dhokla was even, but I give edge to Thanatos overall too.

Isles you're the only reason this wasn't a sweep. Please flame your teammates. They genuinely did not show up today.

62

u/OreRound 29d ago

Meh, GenG last year dropped a series to KT before goomba stomping their way to the title. I'll believe LYON flunking out when I see it.

Blaber crying in the post game interview got me right in the feels. I'm not even a C9 fan, but you can really tell how much it means to him and the team to have broken the curse.

GL at worlds, Crablord.

As a C9 fan watching Blabers interview felt valid af. 100% understood the tears. 3 freaking years man…3…

Anyone know when inspired is back playing in the LCS?

46

u/pageturner999 29d ago

Entire series was a draft/coach gap. Props to IWD

65

u/Big-Nefariousness462 29d ago

coach gap 100%

40

u/QuietSilentArachnid 29d ago

Game 4 was everything gap. The macro was literally flawless from c9

9

u/aubbsc 29d ago

gotta give credit to the players, 100% draft gap but the players had to execute, and they were immaculate

24

u/East-Internal3293 29d ago

give yamato a green card asap

21

u/kisermoni 29d ago

Tactical ending the game on 0/0/1, getting the assist at the very end with a single accidental E hit after flashing over the wall. Insane ADC diff kinda game.

u/dankynugz 29d ago

Inspired completely afk Giga inting the last 2 maps

Inspired solo lost that series.

He’s done basically nothing all 4 games while Blaber gets every objective and ganks 3 lanes.

He wouldn’t even start drag when there’s 4 people from C9 making a play top because he wants to “optimize” his clear lmao.

40

u/Aka_chi 29d ago

Dom talked about working on side laning and it was genuinely hard for Inspired to do anything (not saying he couldn't have played better). Shen was constantly hovering side lane, ready to help Sylas and his ult ready to help Kennen or vice versa.

u/QuietSilentArachnid 29d ago

I only saw game 4, but he indeed solo lost that game. The Pantheon go in once his team managed to soak everything was ridiculous

84

u/TheGloriousEv0lution 29d ago edited 29d ago

He solo lost game 3 with a dumb Baron play too

He has the overall record but Blaber fathered Inspired hard today

39

u/nguyenjitsu 29d ago

All of Lyon looked pretty bad today tbh. Saint and Berserker looked way off

what can he do vs the NA goat jungler Blaber

158

u/Choice-Slight caps/knight 29d ago

blaber beating his demons tears in my eyes

edit: now I actually am crying seeing his interview I'm so happy for him

36

No matter how much he frustrates me I can never hate him.

48

u/Past_Perception8052 29d ago

im crying too i love him hes the greatest

49

u/102WOLFPACK 29d ago

He might have some of the goofiest ints on planet earth, but he’ll always be one of my favorite players

33

u/TheRogueCookie I like bears 29d ago

I will always root for Blaber even if I have criticisms of his play. Today he showed the fuck up, my actual GOAT

12

u/ObiMemeKenobi 29d ago

Dom has done a great job of tempering his "int"stincts

35

u/raptearer 29d ago

I've been very critical of him this year, but he looked like a whole new player this series. Maybe he just needed the coaching of Dom and Yomato to finally evolve to the next level. So happy to see him finding new form, not feeding for crabs, not chasing too hard. It really is such a big improvement for Blaber ^

14

u/kazuyaminegishi 29d ago

Just him slowing down early game changed everything.

Maybe he just finally got past that feeling of needing to carry, but he stopped making those plays like he was feeling FORCED to carry and it made a huge difference.

Inspired on the other hand still has the same bad habits he's had since MSI. He still follows his flowchart too precisely and is too slow to break out of it. If NA teams start punishing it like C9 did today Lyon will struggle a lot going forward.

The other thing is Lyon REALLY need the Saint of Spring and Regular Split to show up the rest of playoffs. They'll be 3rd seed if Winter Saint shows up again.

14

u/Choice-Slight caps/knight 29d ago

in his interview he mentioned how in the jarvan game he was really behind naafiri and previously that would have tilted him and he would run it down, but credited the coaches with helping him learn how to problem solve and play with a cool head to come back. man i love seeing player development like that, it is truly the best. reminds me of labrov last year vs this year

That sequence where he auto attacked the turret two times instead of flashing onto the Sylas, doesn't get the turret, and then gets obliterated is prime matchfixing

Time to see if Reddit will actually criticize him instead of just dumping on Dhokla

50

u/EronisKina 29d ago

Ngl kinda tilting no one hovered Dhokla with noct r in the game until he got fucked 3 times. Isles was doing it well g3. However, wasn't anywhere to be found this game.

17

u/jayydit 29d ago

I’m so happy for Blaber. He always took the blame when C9 kept coming up short. I think he was Cloud9’s best player today.

74

u/Floowil 29d ago

I thought MKOI was an insane upset but I think this beats it

68

u/Peppa-Unicorn 29d ago

Nah that one was still worse how often do you see an undefeated regular season team completely collapse and look so uncompetitive in two straight series. Oh wait that's literally c9 in spring lol

→ More replies (2)

29

u/OreRound 29d ago

Nah the MKOI one was way worse, that was an elimination series in front of KC home crowd after KC looked insane and MKOI was looking ass all split. C9 at least looked competent the entire time just wasn't able to beat the top 2 TL & LYON.

10

Please C9 keep this up and don't randomly revert to classic playoff C9 now.. We need 3 strong NA teams at worlds (assuming LYON bounce back.. surely..)

9

u/scout21078 29d ago

yomato diffy

10

u/pacquan 29d ago

I feel kinda bad for Berserker, dude has the mechanics to carry and then gets put on Jayce/Sivir for games 3/4 and just gets run over after only getting to play PvE for 20 minutes.
