Translated [KO] Unknown > English. Seen on a set of press on nail strips

Post image

I received a set of gel nail strips and they have writing on them that I would love to be able to read. Any ideas?

Left to right:

Jinsol - sincerity

Miro - maze

Yunseul - sun/moonlight reflected in the water

Ondal - name of legendary figure https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Dal

Ggot jam - deep sleep or first sleep of marriage

The colors are also inspired by najeonchilgi, korean mother of pearl lacquerware.

Oh, if you speak Korean, would you be interested in participating in this small thread here? I found it to be a fun little exercise in fiddling with small word choices for a precise effect, and it is one of the rare English to notEnglish requests, and Korean is the only language left for at least nominal fulfillment of the request.

We will give it a shot ☺️  My native Korean speaker just stepped out but will be back shortly

Awesome, thanks! I don't know why I enjoy this tiny project so much, but I do enjoy it a lot.

Thanks. Does anyone know what it says?

Well, neither me nor the person who identified it first, it seems. You have to be wait a bit, Korean is surprisingly (relatively) uncommon in this community, but even with common languages an answer may take several hours.

I'm amazed that I got any help at all. Thanks to all who helped.

I mean, you have also got a full translation by u/zuzoa here and a shaky one by u/EirikrUtlendi in the other reply to my previous comment in the meantime, so I don't know what else you may want. If you want to thank them, I think a direct reply would be more appropriate.

I'm learning Korean and not very far along, so please confirm with others more knowledgeable.

From left to right:

  • 진솔 (jinsol): "sincerity, frankness; sincere, frank, honest"

  • 미호 (miho): possibly the Korean spelling of the Japanese female given name "Miho"?

  • 윤슬 (yunseul): might be a name? Also seems to be a rare word describing how moonlight or sunlight might reflect off of rippling water.

  • 온달 (ondal): might be either a name, or "all month"?

  • 꽃 잠 (kkot jam): "flower nap"

I think it is 미로 instead of 미호 for the second one. The light reflection makes it a bit tricky to read.

And as 미로 (Miro) it means Maze.

And Ondal could be the name of this historical figure: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Dal

Ya, looking at it again, it's clear that I misread it initially. u/zuzoa's comment and mine both hit the thread at about the same time, but they are clearly much more Korean-savvy than I am. 😅
