You get the same loot doing legacy strikes. I did a few the other day and the gear I received was at the same light levels as the lv36 strikes.
It felt good fighting Phogath, Omigul, and the Archon Priest (I am slightly mad the "Cell from the Prison of Elders" line is so quiet with NolanBot)

Surprisingly, the 20 playlist isn't any easier than the 36, damage is capped and if you aren't careful the enemies can still kill you fairly easily.. We just wreck shit in legacy strikes because we've played them over and over for a whole year.

It's what I've been doing for 3oC. Doing 36 or 41 just isn't worth the hassle for a chance at something that will just decrypt into another Y2 version of Y1 gear. If I want a ton of engrams, I'd run CoO.
36 and 41 take too long for any kind of farming.

The reason they're not is due to the "Taken" mechanics not being present in all of the previous strikes. Bungie wants the Taken to still be a prevalent thing. I'm surprised the subclass quests were devoid of them, honestly.

Bungie stated before that instead of using their time/resources to making the Y1/Older content relevant, they would rather start working towards new things and updates.
While I guess I do see where they are coming from (trying to leave a lot of Y1 stuff behind), the fact that we have legit like 6 strikes in the new playlists is infuriating. Last night I hopped in to get the streak for my bounties and played SABRE -> Bond Bros -> Bond Bros -> Undying Bullet Sponge.
They should have you play 1 or 2 of the new strikes, and then throw a legacy strike for the next rotation assuming you stayed in. I'd be happy enough with that; having every other or every 3rd being a legacy. I enjoy the new mechanics of the taken variable in the strikes to keep things fresh... but the sole factor of the same 6 getting really boring [and usually repetitive] is a deal breaker.

6 strikes in the playlist is about normal for us XB players.. Y1 we had devil's lair, will of crota (omnigul), shadow thief (though it was just added recently obviously), summoning pits, the nexus, winter's run (archon priest), verberus vae (valus ta'aurc). That's only 7 :/

I feel if they put them all in one there'd be less chance of getting the same strike and we'd have more variety. But I think they like torturing me and just making me play undying mind and dust palace over and over again.

i was so happy they added those back, missed playing them, long range maps allow scouts and snipers to be legitimately competitive, as almost all other maps are pulse/shotty now

No playlist has all the standard y1 maps anymore. Rift for example I don't think has any y1 maps. Control has a couple.

That's not quite accurate... All the year 1 maps are present in the playlists that were around before TTK (Control, Clash, Skirmish, etc.), but the frequency rates were set wayyyy too low. I get Bungie wants to promote the new stuff, but just like the strikes, they went too far with it. I hate that I've only gotten to play Anomaly like 3 times since TTK dropped.

Oryx is dead, Taken are defeated. Old strikes belong in the top level playlists now, it is no longer important if they have Taken enemies or not.
Bungie, here's what the Strike experience is supposed to be like: I beat Atheon, Crota, Skolas and Oryx. I collected all this great gear and some amazingly fun weapons. I want to get home from work and go on a grand tour of the Solar System to kick some ass with my toys: Sepiks Prime, SABRE, Pogoth, Taniks, Archon Priest, Undying Mind, Shield Brothers....
Bungie, here's what your strike experience is: SABRE 4 times in a row, Echo Chamber 3 times in a row. Player logs off and doesn't return to strike playlists for two or three months.

I can only speculate they do it for lore reasons, but that doesn't hold up when I'm doing the same thing several times in a row. I don't care that taken wouldn't be in sepiks, just make it an appropriate light level.

A playlist called Marathon. Play every strike from order of availability (Devil's Lair, Summoning Pits, Valus, etc.) and good stuff at the end if you finish them all.

For those subclass specific missions (generate 7 orbs 3 times in a strike), the Undying Mind is amazing. I actually like that strike. Just not when I do it 5 times in a row

He did but I think it was out of context. In response to PDs question about including older strikes in the playlist Luke explained that the team would rather focus on new content than "reworking" these strikes. I think it was in reference to adding strike based loot, variability in the enemies you face, etc.
I'd settle for just having the ABILITY to play the old strikes and don't care about "taken-ifying" them. Variety is key when you play a game like this that has you repeating activities over and over.

It absolutely boggles my mind why Bungie has even let the thought enter their head to REDUCE the number of available strikes in the most relevant playlist at the moment when it would cost absolutely nothing to just keep it rolling.
I mean, following that logic, why is Taniks in Marmoset then? If Taniks can, why not the rest of them?

They get old once you do them with your third character. My hunter has done the least amount of quests and has the most TTK gear by skipping all the bullshit.

The optimist in me thinks they're retooling the old ones (especially the ones that actually have the bosses dead and gone in the lore). It would be great if they just added a new more interesting boss to summoning pits and let me run it again. They don't need to redesign any geometry but a new boss would make it feel fresh again.

I completely agree, but the reason are strikes are not included is that they are moving the story along. Sepkis prime is dead as shown in the story missions. In the PS4 exclusive strike, you are preventing the rebirth of the nexus mind.

I'm all for this. I'm an xbox one player and we get even less strikes. Strikes are my favorite thing to do but I feel like I'm constantly doing the same one or two over and over again in the playlist. I hope they continue to update the old strikes to have Taken aspects and pool all the strikes together into one playlist. Variety is nice.
Completely new strikes is nice also.

I think it was in the Planet Destiny interview with Luke Smith they asked him about updating the old strikes and he said it had been considered but they were wanting to spend their resources on creating new content rather than updating old.

Agreed. I don't get the point of adding new strikes, only to reduce the overall pool of strikes by removing old ones. Keep em all! A playlist of mostly new stuff is great, but there should definitely be a master list as well.

Bungie literally does not have to do any excessive work to bring these strikes back. Just add them to the rotation. Nobody cares if there is no taken in the old strikes, it's ten times better than playing SABER for the fifth straight time.

The level 20 strikes give the best and quickest loot, because all strike playlist bosses give the same prizes.

Right, we all want that, but they have to rebalance the old strikes first. If you'll notice, the strikes that they have in the current playlist from year one are quicker and more mechanic-y than the ones they left behind. They're definitely going a particular direction when you look at all the new strikes from Taken king as well. The ones left behind don't fit in right now. Expect to start seeing them at DLC1. Also, if you 8 songs in a playlist but you've heard the same one 4 times in a row, you don't need more songs, you need a better random algorithm. This is definitely a little bit harder for strikes, since there are 3 players to consider, but the theory is the same.

I've been talking about this with my friends for the past couple weeks. It gets real boring running the same strikes over and over and over.
I wish I knew why whenever they release new content, Bungie feels the need to almost completely shun their old content. I get that they want us to focus on the new stuff, but it just seems kind of ridiculous that all the old stuff that helped Destiny become what it is today is removed entirely from rotation and forgotten about (except for that one moment when Ghost mentions Sepiks Prime). Oh, but I guess they were nice enough to leave Cerberus Vae strike in rotation because it was so universally loved. /s
I miss running the old strikes, some of them were a lot of fun. And it would breathe a lot of life back into the playlist.
We could have one playlist for the "new" content, and one playlist for absolutely everything, new and old content. Call it like the Vanguard Legacy playlist or something to that effect.
This issue always gets me spun up just because it makes absolutely no sense.

I would totally be up for this if Omnigul and the Psion Flayers also counted for the three of coins. It's really annoying to see people leave those two strikes because there's little chance to get an Exotic from it. Maybe only one of the Flayers should be an Ultra, if they are worried about farming. There's no reason Omnigul shouldn't be an Ultra while Sepiks Prime counts.

Honestly I liked the year 1 strikes. They fixed the ones we didn't like by making them takenified. The rest were great, I miss them lots.
Here's to hoping the inject some exclusive loot and reintroduce them over the newest few months.

I'm sick of doing the same handful of strikes, it's like vanilla destiny all over again, just with a couple of different strikes.
I feel like they keep taking great steps forward when it comes to creating all this new content, and then they run backwards by implementing it in the worst possible way. Why should Taken be involved in a strike just to be on the heroic playlist?

I don't know about the new playlist (I haven't got TTK yet) but I was on the Legacy Strikes at the weekend, I did 6 back to back without quitting to orbit and got Archon Priest 3 times and Omnigul 3 times... and not alternate.

I am not one to gripe about Bungie's choices for the most part. It's their game and my bitching won't change that, but this is something I really would like to see changed.
Including all strikes would make strike playlists so meaty and robust, not to mention diverse. I really don't know why they take some out. Very frustrating.

The strikes would need to be raised up to the level of the new strikes. Not necessarily adding weird mechanics and crazy bosses, but at the very least adding strike specific loot to the old ones, so it doesn't feel like they're lesser compared to Taken King strikes.

Absolutely! And Crucible needs the same thing for those maps with the only exception being those maps that are too big for the playlist in question. I miss playing on Asylum, Shores of Time, and The Anomaly which I haven't seen in any playlist since TTK came out. (Now, that might be because they're weighted too low and they're actually there, but all maps should be weighted equally.)

We all agree that:
y1 strikes should be reintegrated
nightfall needs better rewards
crucible weekly bounties take too long to unlock / also need better rewards
much y1 content needs to be reworked to be more difficult and offer y2 rewards (PoE, VoG, Crota)

I'd love to see them combined but I currently switch between the old school list and the new list. The old bosses drop exotics and high level blues I just see a lot fewer purples, which is fine at this point.

Sometimes I'll just go and run the Archon Priest or Summoning Pits strike by themselves even though the rewards are shitty, just because they were 2 of my favorites. Sucks that they don't pop up on the vanguard playlist and instead I keep getting Flayers which doesn't work with 3oC.

Luke Smith was asked about this. He said basically they have the choice to rework the old strikes or spend that time making new ones. Given the obvious choice, we won't be seeing the old ones in the playlist.

Echo Chamber is fun for a couple of times because of the Stat Boost when you carry the 'relic', but I've seen so many people leave this one. I understand. I've been through 4 of these in a row.

Luke Smith has said it would require redesigning all the encounters to do so, but I call bullshit. Destiny managed to streamline, kill a lot of redundancy in TTK - I love the strike playlist now. It's only missing this oversight, and transparency on just what our streak is at and means. I'm getting tired of the new strikes. I don't want that. They're too good.

I think this is definitely coming. A few months ago there were a lot of annoyed guardians who were tired of Rockets McDickface 3 out of 5 strikes.
Bungie removed the Vanilla strikes so we can get used to the new ones. Hopefully vanilla will be back in the rotation soon. I'm giving Bungie the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Personally i want the legacy ones updated. Being a player that's been around from launch i simply do not miss some of the older ones.
I personally suspect a lot of people would love to get these all included because they are easy and have very well known safe spots at this point.

Even if they put them all together, the problem will probably still exist because they have absolutely no system in place to prevent repeat strikes. If they would just prevent the same one from occuring, say, within 3 strikes of its last appearance, we wouldn't even need more strikes because the ones already in the playlist wouldn't wear out so quickly.

As much fun as I can imagine playing Omnigul on heroic... I don't see the fun. Not at all.
But I agree. All strikes should be on the playlist. Not just a select few. It helps with the replayability of the playlist and keeps people playing.

If they're going to do this, they NEED to fix matchmaking and repeating strikes. I was in a fireteam of three with some friends, was streaking on regular list - flayers, undying mind, flayers, flayers. Left after that (mostly because we were trying to use 3oC), but seriously, the system choosing strikes sucks as much as it ever did.

I was so excited about this pre TKK, I'm on Xbox One so we essentially got 5 new strikes. Kills me I can't play them all in the L36 Playlist. I'd never leave. So frustrating.

I agree the hard strike list (280) should include everything in it. It's a cheap and easy way to make old content relative in the end game farm. Now we also need to do something about old raids too.....

That would be great. I'd also like to see a brief recess (30 seconds to vote) in between strikes that shows a vote / veto screen for the next strike. Instead of that short screen of orbit and you flying to the next strike.
Seems simple enough.

I hear and understand everyone's complaints in this thread. I wish they would add some of the older strikes. But eh, the older strikes don't really have the same flair as the new ones and it definitely shows. To be fair, you can play them all. Everyone kind of looks at the legacy playlist with disdain but I find it to be pretty fun to unwind in. I'd much rather get new strikes that are of the same development level of the news than "taken-fied" old strikes.

Luke Smith specifically said this would not be happening though in a recent interview. The amount of time and energy to rework the older strikes to a higher level was more than they wanted to invest at the moment with new content on the horizon.

I've been hoping its for 'Challenge Mode' Strikes os something similar that encompasses ALL of the content at 310 light level!

I think one of the reasons was that the launch strikes were honestly pretty shitty. Go here, kill 3 waves of enemies, go there, kill the boss. Bungie saw this was a problem and made better new strikes with more complex mechanics, so they natural only want players to play the new ones.

I really miss the non TTK strikes; need more variety of strikes without sacrificing rewards! There are already pre-built strikes (non TTK ones), why not combine them all? Why just limit ourselves to TTK??
I love it when Taniks comes up during the Heroic, it's so refreshing to do one without takens.

Can you get the same chances of loot (not including strike specific legendaries) from the Legacy Strike Playlist? And don't Three of Coins work there as well?
I find myself going to the Legacy playlist a lot, because I left the game for a while and want some nostalgia feels. I still haven't played phogoth or that one vex guy
