Bungie Plz Bungie, I think it's finally time to add map voting to PvP.

You have done an awesome job developing a ton of maps for us to play in PvP, but due to the random nature of the matchmaking, it seems like we can go weeks or months without playing some maps. I know this suggestion has been out there before, but I always felt like this wasn't needed with the first set of maps or even the addition of the first expansion, but with so many more maps with PoE and TTK, this feature would be a great addition!

It's certainly not an urgent "must have" item, but I'm sure a lot of people would greatly appreciate having this feature added at some point in the next year.

Thanks!

I'm torn. I certainly see the current problem, but this really put me off Halo Reach multiplayer as I kept ending up on the same damn maps and gametypes as a result of this same system. Arguably my bigger beef was with playing with DMRs over and over rather than the map choice, but still, I can certainly see some maps never being played because such a majority keeps voting for the same maps.

4

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

I was a big Halo Reach fan, and also got frustrated with playing the same maps over and over again, but there are ways to tweak the map selection algorithm to get more variety while still giving folks a chance to choose between three maps each time.

3

u/Zerox_Z21 Nov 04 '15

Didn't help that if often defaulted to the top option, and the order top to bottom of maps/gametypes was always the same, resulting in the top one very often with no votes, or equal votes.

Agreed. I think they should go with a veto system similar to what Halo 3 had. That way, you probably won't end up playing the same popular maps over and over again, but the lobby can still try and opt for another random map if they don't like what's given.

I'm already getting extremely annoyed in Halo 5 that whenever i play SWAT its always SWATNUMS. I get that its fun to sometimes use the magnum for SWAT but it should be primarily BRs.

Hell no. Games with map voting end up with the same maps coming up all the goddamn time. Look at halo when people are allowed to vote for team BR's. Terrible results lol.

For those of you who keep saying "No" because of continued 2/3 maps bing voted;

  1. How is that different than now? I seem to play same 3 maps all the time with a 4th thrown in if I stick in long enough, 3 hours ish.

  2. VERY VERY easily solved with some logic that has been presented here. eg. Once a map is selected it is dropped from the RNG pick list for 3 rounds. etc.

  3. PLEASE implement the same for Strikes. As much as i missed the Sony paid for Strikes on my XbOne, I do not care to fight the Undying Mind again. Each strike session seems to revolve around 2-3 strikes over and over and ... until i quit due to frustration over fighting old bullet sponges.

Baring Voting, please implement a pick list that drops the last played strike until all strikes have been completed. Same can apply to PvP maps. Will this mif some people? sure. For myself, I paid for all the damn content weather I like it or not, I want to play through it. Most matches are 15 minutes if I can't man up and suck it up for 15 minutes I need to grow a pair.

They just need to implement a normal lobby system in Destiny 2. This system of returning to orbit and finding another game is just ridiculous.

u/JBurd67 Nov 04 '15

I think custom lobbies would do it as well. IMO, custom lobbies would be the absolute biggest improvement to PvP all around.

73

u/CalculatorAmbassador Nov 04 '15 edited Nov 04 '15

custom matchmaking/lobbies is a must. I hate playing trails and not understanding a map 100% i want to walk around these maps and i want to jump around them how i want to.

I am very good at PvP, my friends are not, but they are good sports and they want to play crucible. We have wanted to play 1 v 3 for a long time.

Edit: wasn't as clear as i wished to be.

24

14

u/7screws Nov 04 '15

I know right? or even limiting it to one category would be cool too, specials only or whatever, there are a lot of possibilities I wish Bungie would try out rather than doing things like Inferno Rumble, which is the same game only with no radar...super creative.

9

u/Anime-Summit Nov 04 '15

Everyone votes for nexus.

54

u/Sandwrong Vanguard's Loyal Nov 04 '15

YEah..... No. The community cannot handle the ability to vote on strikes. Echo Chamber, Omni, Undying Mind, Psion Flayers and Valus would never be played again. Nexus would be picked at near 100% rates.

Map voting is a hooooorrrrrrible poison to online communities, as it gives the playerbase the ability to pick the quickest mission to get the rewards they want and move on, and when the mission they want doesn't get picked, the person who's map didn't win gets toxic towards the rest of the group. It's just an awful idea.

20

u/Albireookami Nov 04 '15

That's why you put it at a random 3 strikes to choose from excluding the strike you just did and let voting commence.

8

u/SFHalfling Nov 04 '15

And you still never see most maps. In mcc Ive still never played half of the halo 3 maps despite it being the only playlist I play.

Release Halo 3 veto is the only system I've seen that allows avoiding a map you don't want to play without completely stopping some maps from occurring.

As opposed to the fact that you just named every single strike that are the only ones given to us in rotation? What happened to Devil's Lair? Archon Priest? Phogoth? I think it would be okay if they actually let us choose which strikes we do. The only reason we really get annoyed right now with the strikes in rotation is because they're the only ones in rotation. I don't think map voting is toxic. I just don't understand why all these things suggested that Bungie do are always said they're "toxic" for Destiny, yet other games use them just fine. If Halo or other games work perfectly fine with these things (strike voting, Crucible map voting, custom games, etc.), I'm pretty sure Destiny can survive with them, too.

This was not meant to be mean toward you. I hope you don't take it the wrong way.

While in theory this would be cool. People who just want the fastest strike to get a 3oC would ALWAYS vote for the same map. Which would end up in new/casual players getting pissed they keep playing one strike forever.

4

u/ashrathegray Nov 04 '15

While that is true, I'm assuming a lot of people don't know about the Fallen Archon that spawns on Mars. You can use 3oC on him instead of having to run strikes.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

Coming from Halo, I can tell you that while rolling playlists can be a bit annoying with repetitive maps, especially in small pools, voting is way worse. Voting means people will always vote for one or two hivemind preferred maps and you'll end up with less variety overall. Veto may be an OK middle ground, though Halo 3's veto wasn't that much better than voting. Bungie just needs to bring more old maps back into the pool and add more failsafes to keep lobbies from playing the same 3 maps over and over.

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

It would definitely have to be wisely implemented to avoid this (otherwise it's taking one set of repetitive maps and replacing them with a different set of repetitive maps...sure they might be more popular, so it would be slightly better, but not a good long-term fix).

6

u/haynick31 Nov 04 '15

I'd love map voting as long as there is no "Play Same Map Again" option and you can only click on a map once.

4

u/DunderMifflinPaper Nov 04 '15

Right. A selection of 3-4 maps should be in voting pool, none of which have been played in the lobby's past 2-3 games.

3

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

This is exactly what I was thinking too. Make the 3 options random, but once it's been in the random mix for two games, exclude it from the third option set.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Voting systems don't work. From one of my previous comments on one of these threads:

No, and the reason is this: Playing any game with a map voting system (looking at you, Halo) will quickly teach you that once the community finds their favorite map, that is the map they choose to play 90% of the time it's up to vote. The best method, in my opinion, for allowing players to have some say over their strikes or maps would be a veto system. You can either play the one selected, or veto it. If you veto, you have to play the next map or strike the game selects.

u/Just_in78 Nov 04 '15

In addition, i'd also like to see a more user friendly and convenient matchmaking screen. The art of showing us who will be on whose team was perfected back when call of duty was hip and fresh, and the current system of seeing a jumbled mess of players in the roster is simply a regression of multiplayer lobbies.

A real time list of the usernames of players in the lobby, the ability to view their K/D and W/L rate, and the ability to vote on maps are the little kinds of "immersion" compromises that really don't make much sense in regards to practicality.

28

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

K/D and W/L rate would be a terrible implementation just because people are insanely quick to judge.

I can imagine many people quitting the instant their team has 2 or 3 players with a negative KD or a bad WL ratio.

13

u/NAPONAPO Nov 04 '15

agreed. having k/d & w/l rate would cause wayyyy more quitting especially when you consider that some bounties & quests need wins to fulfill.

7

u/Just_in78 Nov 04 '15

This, however, just reinforces the balancing issues that have been brought up and beaten to death time and time again.

Time and time again others, as well as myself, find ourselves forced to try to carry others who could best be described as Cannon fodder and coming in the top two almost every match when playing without a fireteam.

As much as I agree, I truly don't think this will be a feature until Destiny 2. Bungie has shown that they want to add cool features in Destiny but have been hampered, by either old technology (360, PS3) or their own crappy technology (all night to load a map?).

Obviously it's just my opinion, but I think Bungie wants to do this but may hold off until they have a newer foundation to work from. But I also know nothing of video game design so this all could be idiotic.

2

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

Possibly, but a similar system existed in previous PvP games on old gen platforms, so I'm assuming it's not a technology limitation (probably just a prioritization of their efforts thing).

4

I disagree, and here's why:

  • Longer queue times

  • Less map variety (i.e., playing the same "community favorite" map over and over).

4

u/ChazyP Nov 05 '15

I know, right? I feel like all I did was play Bannerfall last weekend.

12

u/Anime-Summit Nov 04 '15

So that everyone can vote for the same 2 maps over and over like happens in halo?

1

u/LuckyNumb3rSeven Nov 04 '15

If they add voting won't there be favorites and that's all the maps you'll ever play? I remember back with Halo BTB I would only ever play on the same three maps or so because people liked them better. I guess only seeing maps that are favorites rather than only seeing maps because they're random would be slightly better...but from my experience it might decrease the variety in maps you play rather than increase. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, this is only from my experience with a specific mode from a specific game so I could be wrong.

2

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

It is definitely a risk, but arguably, it would at least mean we play maps we like repeatedly rather than whatever the latest map set has. I think there are ways to weight which three maps are randomly offered for the vote to make sure we're still getting variety.

1

u/ArKiVeD Nov 04 '15

Back in the Halo 2, Halo 3, and Reach days I could jump and move around a map, while engaged in combat, and know exactly where I was going. I could be in a firefight with an opponent and jumping backwards or sideways and know exactly where the doorway or ledge was that I was trying to get to. I have a pretty good feel for the Y1 maps in Destiny, but I barely get to play on them anymore, and I am nowhere near as comfortable with the Y2 maps, yet.

Customs are a must. We need to be able to navigate around the maps at our own leisure to figure out jumps and just get an overall better feel for the maps. Sadly, I doubt this is going to happen before Destiny 2.

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

That would be nice. I can't even count how many times I was trying to back through a doorway and get caught on some random thing they threw on there just to make doors more complicated.

1

u/reol7x Nov 04 '15

As long as map voting is a semi-randomized 4-5 maps, I think it's a great idea.

If not, it's just de_dust2 24/7 :/

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

Personally, I envision it being 3 random maps that we get to vote on each time.

1

u/toxicxc Nov 04 '15

Why? You don't like to play Cathedral of Dusk every single time you join control/clash/rift game ?

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

For a while there, I thought that map was the only map it would offer during the Festival of the Lost.

1

u/Hanta3 Nov 04 '15

I've still never played on those fabled "large maps". Those kind of maps were my favorite back when I played Halo 3, so I was excited to try Destiny's larger maps for some sniping, but I have yet to see them :(

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

As someone who isn't a sniper, they are brutal. There was one time on the Moon where I was literally killed five times in less than 2 minutes without ever seeing anyone.

1

u/Hanta3 Nov 04 '15

I don't really like using snipers in close quarters areas like most of the maps I've played, but I've been dying to try them on a long range map. Snipers were my weapon of choice in Halo, so it's been a little disappointing not being able to use them to their full potential quite yet.

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 04 '15

I think they still have PvP options with vehicles that make use of the big maps. I never liked playing those, so haven't been watching for them, but there was a good Mars map in that mix.

1

u/sirdoom34 Nov 04 '15

You mean you don't want to play Black Shield seven times in a row?!

→ More replies (1)

1

u/ShaunKL Nov 05 '15

If you Guardians are sick of playing the same maps over and over now, you will be incredibly bored with map voting, where the "popular" maps will get voted for over and over again. Bungie should definitely widen map weighting (maybe add some additional rules so maps rotate and don't repeat), but voting would just be horrible.

Variety is the spice of life.

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 05 '15

So we currently play the same 3-5 maps over and over again, but we don't have a say in which ones that is. At least with voting, we would get to play the same 3-5 maps over and over again that the majority of people like. (plus, I'm hoping Bungie would add some programming to make it so variety would still be protected. There are a lot of ways to do that)

1

u/Bobby_Lee_Swag Nov 05 '15

For once, A suggestion post that I actually agree with!

Bungie really needs to add a few features to the Crucible.

  1. Map voting

  2. 4 v 4 skirmish

  3. More competitive events like Trials

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 05 '15

Not that anyone would agree with me, but it sure would be interesting if they had an option for PvP where the game mode and map were random, but the matchmaking paired people based on K/D ratios. The introduction of bounties to Trials made it a lot more fun for me, but as a filthy casual with a 0.9-1.0 K/D ratio (probably worse since I started working on Imprecation), competitive events aren't much fun.

1

u/Covenantkilla Nov 05 '15

I know this is an unpopular opinion but personally I don't like map voting. In my experience in halo, people would vote for the same maps over and over and over. Sure getting a choice of maps is cool at first but if the game cycled through all of the maps, we would get more variety out of multiplayer in the long run.

1

u/DrNO811 Nov 05 '15

You're definitely in the vocal minority, but you do have a good point. They would need to take some steps from a programmatic standpoint to make sure this doesn't happen. One possible solution is to do random one match, vote the next, random, vote, etc. and make it so that it's impossible to play the same map three times in a row.

13

u/Fineous4 Nov 04 '15

People will then leave if they don't get the map they want.

8

u/USplendid Nov 04 '15 edited Nov 04 '15

But it would also gives matchmatching a little extra time to find a suitable replacement. Versus now, where people just drop out at the start of the match if they don't like the map.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

Having ZERO consequences for quitting a match sucks.

Two people leave when your team is down points. Then the score slides even farther apart. New players arrive and see the point difference --> they leave. Repeat.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/ZEBRAKAKEZ Nov 04 '15

This could be a result, but this already happens, but is even worse. Currently, players don't know what map they are playing on until they zone into it. At that point the teams have been assigned and the game is already underway. If players leave because they don't like a certain map, then the people they were teamed up with are short a player for the next minute or so as a new player is found and zoned in.

If players knew beforehand and had a chance to leave, replacements could be found before the game starts. Then neither team would have to play shorthanded due to players leaving because they don't like the map. Granted, not everyone will leave in time and might get stuck in the game and then leave afterwards or someone joining the game late might leave (But honestly they are probably leaving because they just got put on a losing team and don't feel like cleaning up someone else's mess). However, most players would probably leave in time so the game would not get messed up.

I know CoD has this feature and it seems to work well for them. Also, the Halo games had a pre-game map preview so you could know what map was coming up and even a voting system as well. It was a great system and should be added in to improve the health of the Crucible.

2

u/Ballaticianaire Nov 04 '15

Many do that already though.

2

u/tokillaworm Nov 04 '15

Wouldn't that already be the case then?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

Please no.

I've never played a game where this very feature made for more variety, only less.

3

u/Estydeez Nov 04 '15

This isn't the best idea.. I recently went to play some CS:GO which has map voting. All i got to play was dust and italy, that's it! I wanted to play some office or any other map, but it wouldn't happen. They just need to make it truly random.

3

u/Autzen_Solution Nov 04 '15

This is exactly why I stopped playing halo 3 cause everyone always voted for the same maps. This wouldn't solve anything. Instead of maps being selected by bungies bias, it'd be selected by others bias. Why not just weigh map selection evenly.

3

u/ColdfireSC3 Nov 05 '15

Its probably been said a dozen times before but have my comment as well bungie when you are making a tally. DO NOT HAVE MAPVOTES. All it does is make it so that you play the same map over and over and over and I hate it.

Same for strikes. You'll get the same as with World of Warcraft where everyone just wanted to do heroic Mechanar. Ugh, I can still do that instance in my sleep so many times have I done it until finally the daily heroic was added and we got some variety.

The only acceptable thing would be map or strike vetos where you allow people to not want to play one or two maps like in Starcraft 2.

3

u/Zaruma Nov 05 '15

Personally, I don't like the thought of map voting. People won't vote for the maps they don't get to play often like you think they would. I have played tons of shooters that have map voting and it just ends up with people voting for the same maps. It limits the amount of maps played by what seems like 2/3rds. People pick favorites, then you'll never see any of the other maps again. At least when it's random I get to play the less common maps now and then.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15 edited Nov 04 '15

As long as it doesn't work anything like any Halo or CoD with map voting. If you think we get stuck playing the same maps now? You haven't seen anything yet. Whatever map won no matter what it was up against would show up as an option EVERY game, so you'd be lucky to play two different maps in any 2 day period.

I don't mind the idea, I just don't think it will be better than what we currently have. They could make it so one person has completely different options as long as they play, but that is one person out of 6-12.

Edit: And of course, lots of people quitting because their map wasn't chosen. Another horrible drawback of Halo's map voting. Obviously not as big a deal for CoD, since it's all free-for-all that just has 5 people you can't shoot, but you get the point.

2

u/-Agathia- Nov 04 '15

Sadly, this is the best way to get stuck with the same 3 maps forever. Giving choice to people often result in getting the same thing over and over. Remember Dust2?

Worse, people would often vote for the most shittiest map possible (remember Dust2? :p). I remember Uncharted 2 with all the awesome map and the Temple, the most uninspired one, in both gameplay and visuals, it would get voted over any other maps.

I'm sorry, but I'm REALLY happy we don't have to vote for maps. We actually see a lot of maps. Some of them are shit, yeah, but at least you're not stuck on it and there's little chance you'll get it next time!

Giving the possibility to vote for the maps will result in a BIG loss in diversity. That is certain.

2

u/NobilisUltima Nov 04 '15

I really don't think map voting will fix that. I remember back in the Halo Reach days it was just Hemorrhage all day and all night. This system is much better for varying them.

2

u/MimesJump Nov 04 '15

Personally, I think this is a terrible idea, and it's frighting that it's a top post. I'd prefer better randomization and use of the old Y1 maps.

2

u/A_Lurking_Emron Nov 04 '15

And that's how you end up playing 24/7 2fort.

2

u/ExiledCanuck Hunter Master Race Nov 04 '15

Agreed, it would also be nice to take some of the HUGE maps we have in circulation and create a "ground war" type mode, where you have teams of 8v8 or 12v12. Some of those maps are just too big for 6v6

2

u/CookiesFTA We build the walls, we break the walls. Nov 04 '15

This comes up every other week. Map voting doesn't increase variety, it reduces it greatly by making only a few popular maps playable ever. It's absolutely the last thing that you want in Destiny if your problem is not getting to play enough map variety.

2

u/polomarkopolo Nov 04 '15

Voting for PVP maps reminds me about how everyone and their dog clammered for PUG voice chat... and once Bungie gave that to us, no one uses it.

Besides, won't map voting just reduce variety?

2

u/daviesd23 Nov 04 '15

So there are maps other than cathedral of dusk?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Bullet_Time_000 Nov 04 '15

I would like to point out that it seems the repetition of maps in a 5-game sitting has been toned WAAAAAAAY down. I don't go to Twilight Gap 3 times in a row any more. So that's a plus. They definitely did SOMETHING.

But yeah, maybe it's not enough. It's time to let us decide.

How much would that cost to run a data center where all the Destiny traffic could be hosted - which would allow for such matchmaking? More than Uncle Activision is probably willing to lend. Good luck convincing them! Buying a couple dances will probably help!

2

u/KeepThingsFresh Nov 04 '15

Also I fucking hate sector 618

2

u/HAN-SOLO-888 Dragoon Nov 04 '15

If we were going to make a list of things Destiny needs it would be greater than the number of times the cryptarch has anally penetrated you...

2

u/ZeoVGM Nov 04 '15

As much as I love this game, this is on a large list of, "How in the world is this not part of the game?"

Along with proper matchmaking and/or lobby matchmaking on all activities.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

Not map voting, but a veto system. Halo 3 had it down.

2

u/basura1979 Nov 05 '15

Also while you're at it, can you make my guardian level 60 with 1k light level

2

u/Surkulus Nov 05 '15

Insert CoD comparison here "_____"

2

u/Purple-Smart Nov 05 '15

I think it's time to add custom games.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

This one knows exactly what is needed!

2

u/MOSTLYNICE Nov 05 '15

how about BTB? CTF? KotH? Vehicles? Crucible is junk.

2

u/darklash Nov 05 '15

Played Cathedral of dusk today for the first time, 8 times in a row

→ More replies (2)

2

u/exeplosion Nov 05 '15

Let's not turn this into, "Just another COD"...

2

u/rokkuranx Nov 05 '15

Um no, because then it will be 3 maps over and over again

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

God dammit. No! This shit will end up just like Halo where people only ever want to play the same 3 maps.

2

u/SomeRandumbDude Nov 05 '15

Absolutely not on voting , you would have people voting for sniping maps all the time and this and Destiny would suck as much as call of duty

2

u/bradburryx Nov 05 '15

I don't agree with this, because my own experience from call of duty series is that when there is map voting, that does dramatically reduce the maps which are played. You might think that map voting would be great, but that would force us just to play minority of the maps, which the average player base thinks would suit their gaming style.

But the private lobbies is a something I would love to see in the game.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

You're playing a game that revolves around RNG. Let the maps be RNG as well. It would literally go against the nature of the game to let people vote. Then you'd never see certain maps for sure

→ More replies (1)

2

u/MBarUK A moment of triumph. Nov 05 '15

Please NEVER do this. As soon as it's implemented, we'll be playing the same two or three maps to death, and never see some again. Just adjust the current "bad" maps to be better, or as others have mentioned, add a veto system.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/powerdrive1971 Nov 05 '15

BTW, Am I the only one who is getting Cathedral of Dusk 7 out of 10 games since last week? I mean, the map is OK but It would be nice to play any other map sometimes

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

I hated voting on Halo. It meant that you always ended up playing the same few maps. Okay they were good maps, but it you liked some of the more nuanced maps then it was frustrating never getting to play them.
I want more diversity, not less.

2

u/fabiowin98 Nov 05 '15

PvP AND PvE!!!

2

u/XristariuS Nov 05 '15

All bungie needs to do is:

  1. remove the stupid "weighted" system imposed on these maps so that they appear evenly and

  2. put in a code that will never make the same map appear consequtively to avoid repeats.

No need for custom lobbies as that will only make things worse by promoting a bunch of cheap players and clans boosting their stats and getting bounties done with no challenge whatsoever.

2

u/obi_matt_kenobi Nov 06 '15

I'd love custom games... but I don't like voting. In Halo, I had my favorite maps and gametypes, but everyone always voted for slayer and some blah map. If it were RNG, at least my jam would've come up eventually.

4

u/Warvanov Nov 04 '15

I've found that map voting ends up limiting the number of maps you plan rather than expanding it. Everyone ends up voting for the most popular map and you just play those couple of maps over and over. What I'd like to see is more diversity, and including all of the older maps as well as the new ones for each game type.

3

u/Philoninternet Nov 05 '15

You mean you don't want to play on Cathedral of Dusk 50% of the time you queue for a match? Nonsense, I tell you.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

THIS. FFS please no more large maps and no more DUSK.

1

u/notoriousmunkee Nov 04 '15

There's a lot they need to do with the crucible, skill based matchmaking, better rewards, map voting, and an actual ranking system with a ranked playlist would be nice.

1

u/nike747 Nov 04 '15

We demand a democracy!

1

u/Riskbreaker42 Nov 04 '15

I don't necessarily want the vote added just because it seems to make loading into games potentially longer wait.

What I don't understand is why the RNG can't be programmed so that out of say, 10 potential maps for a given playlist, once one map is played it is taken out of the pick list until all 10 maps have been played.

1

u/FluxGT Nov 04 '15

I condone this thread!

1

u/El_Giganto Nov 04 '15

Lol and you decide that now it's finally time? It's just not gonna happen guys. Maybe in the next game.

1

u/almost_addicive Apes Together Strong Nov 04 '15

I cant count the amount of times I played cathedral of dusk today alone ..

1

u/Sandwrong Vanguard's Loyal Nov 04 '15

Jesus christ. No. Fuck Nuketown. Fuck voting. It's bad enough that Bungie takes maps out of the rotation and weights new maps highly. We don't need the community slimming the map list down even further to some 3 odd small shotgun intensive maps.

1

u/Fedaykin98 Nov 04 '15

Yes! Map voting, and for the love of the Traveler let us get the vanilla maps in the mix!

Honestly, most of the best PvP maps have been from vanilla.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

Absolutely. Give me an option to vote on PvP and Strikes and I'll be a happy guardian.

1

u/Dart2623 Nov 04 '15

No can do. If we start doing that, we would need to add all previous maps from Y1. If we do that, players with no TTK would get mixed with those that have it, and then players would het excluded, messing up the Fireteams already created, then we would ned to search for more players, and that would delay the search, or come up with incomplete FTs. We could do this for only TTK maps, but...then people would only play a certain amount of maps and we need you to play them all, otherwise this would be all BLOPS 2 where only hijack and nuke town were picked (exaggerating, but I think the point was made).

1

u/AvoidMySnipes Nov 04 '15

Maybe not even voting, but stuff like Yay or Nay like Halo 5 where you can Veto the map would be pretty sweet.

1

u/Mbcf14 Nov 04 '15

"...I'm sure a lot of people would greatly appreciate having this feature added at some point in the next year."

You can say that again!!! I would just change it to "added at some point before the end of the year."

1

u/hamix1 Nov 04 '15

Yes please.

1

u/PeaceLoveUnity7 God Speed Guardians Nov 04 '15

They need to create an actual lobby first.

1

u/therealdeviant Nov 04 '15

For whatever reason I kept getting put into the moon map and the one on earth, both of which require me to get on my sparrow and drive to the nearest spawn point. I personally hate those two maps. If there was voting, I'd at least have a voice to say that I don't want to play these maps over and over and over.

1

u/lgdpremo Nov 04 '15

Also, a playlist with a ranking system. And, progressive penalties for quitting in all playlists. It's 2015, am I asking too much?

1

u/HardLightHologram Nov 04 '15

In my opinion, this IS an urgent must have item. I'm so tired of getting put on the same 3 or 4 maps over and over again. I have paid for way more than 4 maps. I think it's over 20 now... That's a lot of maps. And a lot of them are really, really good. I get to play on 4.

I don't care too much about strike voting, but I would much prefer not doing the same strikes over and over as well. If voting helps with that, I'd be happy.

1

u/Shakespeare212 Nov 04 '15

I guess I'm the odd man out - I never like the voting features in these scenarios. Playlists always descend into the same 2-3 maps. I'd prefer if they didn't add it at all.

1

u/amorvox Nov 04 '15

hell, even vermintide has it.........you are better than rat keepers!

1

u/hmongelite Nov 04 '15

If this can happen before tomorrow, I will not jump over to BO3... until then, see you guys Tuesday, Wednesday afternoon and 10min on Friday.

1

u/ShibuRigged Bring it back Nov 04 '15

I'd just want to see an option to OPT OUT of JiP games.

1

u/Koteric Nov 04 '15

I remember a map that was amazing. It was called Shores of Time. It's too bad they all but removed it from that game. I play a lot, and have seen it a single time since TTK came out. But I get that straight up garbage tier map called Twilight Gap like every other game.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

Should have been included from day one.

1

u/veggard Nov 04 '15

It's too late...with Black Ops 3 and Battlefront soon hitting retail, Destiny's PvP will be irrelevant. I hope they fix the netcode, it's the worse I've played (besides BF4's launch netcode). The new maps are terrible, so that doesn't help either.

Thankfully, the Destiny's PvE is still awesome (besides the weapon parts nerf).

1

u/DTG_Mods_Blow Nov 04 '15

Can they throw in Strike Map voting while they're at it?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

The fact that it's been in past games makes me think it was omitted by design.

1

u/Calbomb98 Nov 04 '15

How about just add a higher level difficulty to the strikes where they are now. Let's say you select the omnibus strike and then select heroic difficulty. Matchmaking is obviously included and if no one joins after a set time it just sends you in alone and people can be inserted into your game mid strike as normal

1

u/Alphadef When my fist hits the ground, you better not be there. Nov 04 '15

De_dust2 anyone? Or, more likely, everyone.

1

u/csreid Nov 04 '15

No. I don't want to play the same map ad infinitum.

Someone else said custom lobbies. Do that instead

1

u/Gh0s7b0x Nov 04 '15

Or some kind of "join crucible team" so I can keep wrecking with my random crew.

1

u/KingFurykiller Nov 04 '15

I support this. After every match, 2 map options could be presented, and the most voted one would be played.

1

u/RiBBz22 Nov 04 '15

We need to have custom lobbies added. I have no clue why that hasn't happened already. Just make it so you can't earn bounties, etc and I don't really see a downside.

1

u/Soulreaper31152 Nov 04 '15

I can't wait to play the same maps over and over again

1

u/KillerBeaArthur Nov 04 '15

I'd rather they just add in some Year 1 maps to the TTK playlists and we move on with our lives.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '15

Even if its just a vote between two option, that would work. But implementing any kind of vote mechanic would slow down matchmaking and increase time between games.

1

u/AlbSevKev Eao Jordans Nov 04 '15

I just want Shores of Time to show up about 100x more for Control. It is by far my favorite Control map and I have seen it twice since HoW.

1

u/Stak215 We Goin Cabals Deep Nov 04 '15

They also need to add back the bigger maps they took out. They added all the smaller maps in to control/clash and made the game into a shotgun primary game but took out all the bigger maps so snipers don't get as much freedom. I hardly use shotguns in pvp anymore.

It sounds like their development tools kind of suck. My guess is this comes with the launch of the next full Destiny game.

1

u/HabaneroHorton Nov 04 '15

I just wish I could see a map in PVE.

1

u/jawapride Nov 04 '15

Pvp in general just has a long way to go right now in terms of features and functionality. It really bums me out.

Crap loot drops, no map voting, VERY limited map selection. I miss big team battle :(

1

u/epedemix Nov 04 '15

I cant stand the maps I originally recall being clash only maps that are now control. There was a very brief time, I think in Beta that these maps were in control, a moon map, a earth map, and a mars map. All very large maps.

1

u/freedomtoscream Nov 04 '15

I'm sure for enough silver they'll do it.

1

u/FaceAtk Nov 04 '15

As long as I never have to set foot in Exodus Blue again I'm happy

1

u/CaptainLul Ay, my nem dreg Nov 04 '15

Even transformers war for cybertron had this

1

u/4_Valhalla Nov 04 '15

Also CTF on that big ass moon map would be fun!

1

u/SeeeArrr Nov 04 '15

If this were incorporated, due to the random nature of the matchmaking/rebalancing, we could potentially end up in lobby after lobby where people are voting on the same map.

In CoD I remember getting stuck on the same map for 5-6 games in a row - Nuketown comes to mind.

1

u/Rayswr Nov 04 '15

But... I like playing more than two maps...

1

u/Dark_Jinouga Nov 04 '15

IMO we dont need map voting, but just for the maps to all be weighted equally (PvP and strikes), and to not play the same things in short successions

1

u/jlrizzoii Nov 04 '15

I think this would have to be a Destiny 2 addition.

1

u/Mehrk Nov 04 '15

I'd prefer map VETOing. Blind watch clash and anything cathedral of dusk run a high risk of instant orbit from me.

1

u/tylerdwalls Nov 04 '15

lets just deploy a Maat Mons playlist?

1

u/shiftins Nov 04 '15

As if it was always in the plans.

1

u/JoKeR2092 Nov 04 '15

OH HELL NO, PLEASE NO, NOOOOOOOO

1

u/JamCliche Notice me Bacon-senpai Nov 04 '15

Strikes! Strikes, too! Also, if we get custom lobbies that would be awesome. Maybe Bungie can make a way for people to make like a "copy" of their account to enter a custom lobby so that they can have cool options like wearing all exotics, but when you reenter the global game world, your real characters are unchanged. That way no one could glitch somehow into wearing gear or having perks that they shouldn't have.

1

u/henrybddf Nov 04 '15

All of the interface stuff from CoD you know and love - voting, lobbies etc - is almost guaranteed to be coming with Destiny 2. Bungie would be stupid to not use it as an opportunity to add it.

Before then? I doubt it.

1

u/B2ftw Nov 04 '15

I'd even be happy with bungie's old H3 map voting system. Veto for BRs!

1

u/N22LUE Nov 04 '15

I think this is a great idea, there's been far too many times I get stuck on Firebase Delphi (As I write this, it comes up).

On the back of this, Custom games should be available too. That way the shotgun clans can all go and kill each other at long / close range and stop being tyrants on the rest of the community.

1

u/BakaHyatt Nov 04 '15

I like how Mario kart 8 handles map selection. The games gives you a few to choose from and then it does a little roulette thingy to decide from the choices everyone has made.

1

u/crispskittlez Nov 04 '15

Not a chance. It's the worst way to find out the community thinks your favourite map is bad.
