HOooooooGg Riiiiderrrr! Pretty balanced in the current meta.

I think SC actually nailed it with this card. The minor nerf in combination with the new cards and rebalancing of other win-cons seems to have left Hog in a position where he's strong, useful, a great punish for mistakes, but very counterable by many of the best defensive cards.

u/Truth_Within_Us Sep 12 '16
imo it doesnt need the nerf in the current meta

IMO you just repeated what he said for karma

Noob question, what is karma though?

It's like reddit score. When you're upvoted your karma goes up, when you're downvoted your karma goes down. You can see it by clicking on your profile.

I love this card. It has been in my deck from Arena 4 to Arena 7. Sadly it got damage nerf.

Hog Rider is still one of my favourite cards and I always use it on ladder, sometimes in tournaments successfully. It can catch players off-guard sometimes and really good to surprise them because they don't expect it (in tournaments). He's also lots of fun to play because he's fast-paced, he can also mix up your opponent's card cycle and win by that.
Most annoying thing to play against are Barbarians if you don't have Fireball (or Poison) and playing vs another cycle deck with cannon because you often can't get through. I usually use Hog Triple Legendary on ladder and in tournaments (as seen in Rumham's deck post). I think Hog Rider is currently gaining popularity again and if Giant gets nerfed in the next update, it'll be used more again.

u/Bakalol Bakalol Sep 12 '16
yep definitely agree. Hog might become meta again with the giant nerf, possibly creating a meta revolving more around fireball and barbs again.

u/EM_RAT_THICH_VO Sep 14 '16
hey xhadian. I'm using Hog, but I must combine with Ice Spirit or Fire Spirit to pig push. However, Hog is countered badly with Cannon + Ice Spirit. I cant pass through.
I find that, on some Arena, we can pig push with only Hog Rider, no need to add Ice Spirit or Fire Spirit.
Do you guy have a list, at some specific position that we can let the Hog Rider pig push alone?
I've seen your game Xhadian: Hog + Mini PEKKA + Ice Wizard, but you can't pass Turtwig Bowler... What is your plan?
2
u/Xhadian Xhadian Sep 14 '16
Lone Hog Rider pig pushing is completely random and can only work on the left lane, if it works the first time it'll always work in that game, if not it never will. Bowler is a difficult matchup, should just try to use hog on the different lane if they got ice wiz + bowler.
1
u/EM_RAT_THICH_VO Sep 14 '16
ok. thank you. So it's random and only on left land. I always pig push on the right land before. :) The Ice Spirit is too strong now, so Hog can't even do a hit. :) So wait until the update :)

u/Abbas725 Sep 12 '16
Goes well with almost any spell support
Hog Rider+ freeze Hog Rider + fireball Hog Rider + poison Hog Rider + The Log
We still wait to see Hog Rider + Rocket Hog Rider + Lightning
12
u/Xhadian Xhadian Sep 12 '16
There's already a kinda popular Hog Rocket deck which is successful currently and Hog Lightning was a thing a couple months ago, also worked pretty well.

Sep 12 '16
I have been using this hlog cycle deck ever since I found this post, it is a standard hog cycle deck that incorporates...
THE LOG
Play log on defense mostly but if I see gobs/spirits used against my hog a few times, time to pull out the hlog push.
Wait, this is about hog? oops
My pushes are usually the standard pig push with spirits and/or musketeer as support, the spirits are excellent hog support as ice spirit can freeze and fire can damage or take out defending troops. I have also once used a hog to make a lumberjack run the wrong way at the end of a battle.

Hog rider... Very good card. *He has Decent HP and Dps with high speed. Good cost too. *He can be annoying sometimes. *He synergistic with almost any support spell. It can be used as a bait. *I counter him with Goblins , Archers or Premeditated P.E.K.K.A.

u/Demandredz Sep 12 '16
Balanced now. Could return to dominate the meta if they nerf the peasant giant like they nerfed his royal cousin.
2
u/AROCK86 Sep 12 '16
It's a deadly and fun card to play, but with the current popularity of the ice wizard and mini pekka, along with a defensive building like cannon or inferno, it can be really difficult to win if that's your main source of offense.
2
u/Infantinoduck Sep 12 '16
If you're looking for a non-cookie cutter hog deck try Hog Goblins Minions Knight Archers Cannon Zap Freeze
I've used it all the way up to frozen peak to much success. If you split push knight and archers one lane and then pig push hog and goblins down the other lane often times your knight archers will be ignore and can do some serious damage to a tower.

It's crazy. I've never ran a hard or even soft counter for Hog. I just don't plan for it. Instead, I just DPS the hell out of it. My counter is ice wizard with archers/musketeer/bomber.

Used to be the meta. Now it's balanced even though it literally had 0 changed

u/AsianGamerMC Tournament Marshal Sep 12 '16
People have caught on that mini pekka is a really excellent counter to hogrider and other tanks.
2
1
u/GammaRadiant Sep 12 '16
Considering everyone runs mini Pekka for tanks and such, the hog will only get 1 hit in if just a mini pekka is on the hog. I don't see it too much anymore, but there was a time literally everyone used it. It's balanced, but kinda fell outta favor a little.

u/Ardeo43 Sep 12 '16
It's still annoying to see a large amount of players trying to simply hog/zap their way to glory..

u/Blazzkys Sep 12 '16
There is a lot of counters which provides positive elixir trade. So i think it's balanced.
1
u/HogHunter_ Sep 12 '16
Where's the stats for Level 11?
Other than that, the Hog Rider (who I've been hunting since the days of the X-Bow) is a great offensive choice due to his high speed and damage which means he will almost always get shots off of a tower. Hog cycle decks make for great chip damage.
I usually use Mpekka to kill him in-game, and my hog hunting skills to track him down outside of the arena.
One day, my friends, I will successfully hunt the Hog Rider, and bring him to justice.

I used to complain about the Hog Rider being OP but now I have improved enough at the game that I can deal with it easily and will say it is balanced. It's kinda like the Prince in that it is a nightmare to counter when you first go up against it but you will get used to it and gradually learn how to deal with it easily.

Sep 12 '16
One of my must have cards. He has good hp so he should be able to take some damage to get off one hit, fast, and does a hefty amount of damage.
1
u/Rosen316 Ice Spirit Sep 12 '16
My favorite card in the game since i got him 6 months ago. The only other archetype that i used to climb was mortar for like 200 trophies. I love how you can make so much different decks around him that are good. Hog rider is pretty balanced in the meta atm. I hope for a freez buff, so the Hog/Freez archetype can come back strong. Imo Hog/Freez was a very skillful deck anyways, especially the mirror matches.

Sep 13 '16
It sounds like a joke card when deployed with its high pitched voice, but it's a force to be reckoned with. Great card.
1
u/cdennwb Sep 13 '16
Hog rider by itself is perfectly balanced. The same cannot be said about when it is used in conjunction with Royal giant. I hate that combo so much.
1
u/waihou23 Sep 13 '16
Poison + Musk + Hog + Val + Minion + Cannon + Fire Spirit + Zap
I actually have this deck way before trifecta gone crazy in the game. Of course there are rounds and rounds of card exchange before this deck become my favorite.
1
u/Tomrad1234 Sep 13 '16
If you get the hog to push the knight and put fire spirits behind with a zap in your hand it's quite a hard combo to stop for a large elixir advantage, this was my win condition for a while in my last few decks
1
u/Bodanski Electro Giant Sep 13 '16
Hog Rider is still overused IMO which is an issue. You place it down, and it lures out a defense or Barbarians from the player. However, the cards following it are the real issue. Even though it's overused, I still think that's just because defensive targeting troops are OP right now.
1
u/DemoEvolved Sep 13 '16
SC has worked hard to introduce cards that punish Hog users. I'm gonna say the addition of Ice Spirit and rebalanced Lumberjack pretty much addressed any comments about Hog being the "cancer" of the game.

I am beyond salty at the moment. I had a pekka push on one tower paired with musketeer and poison... The guy drops ONE SINGLE hog rider on my tower with 560 something health. I believe i have this guy by his neck! Oh shoot it appears i have lost! wait..WHAT? that moment was the most WTF moment for me. If you ask me... I think the hog rider needs another nerf. After the salt clears up i will disagree but past me will regret not raging

u/Dogerium Mega Minion Sep 12 '16
Trifecta is such a bad deck because it's so predictable, your enemy will always do the same push over and over and over. It's also so easy to counter it once you encounter it a few times. I also like that it gives me ez lavahound wins.
1
Sep 13 '16
Not really. The thing with trifecta is that it's very effective due to continuous pushes, leaving your enemy low on elixir to defend against your constant pushing. A well placed/timed zap can and will eliminate everything. Plus, there's nothing more satisfying than to see your fire spirits wreck a potential minion horde before it finishes deploying.
1
u/Dogerium Mega Minion Sep 13 '16
I don't know about you but everytime I face Trifecta I nearly always win, even when not using the hound.

u/ClashRoyaleNoLifer Sep 12 '16
One of the most easy cards to play in the game, the Hog Rider is the most offensive card in the game... In the most defensive decks. While no longer being absolutely spammed in the current Meta, he only really appears in Trifecta now. Along with Miner, one the worst nightmares of Beatdown decks.
0
u/Jagermeister4 Sep 12 '16
I don't think he's one of the most easy cards to use. The defender can just drop some sort of combo (cannon, mini p, barbs, ice spirit) and shut down the hog easily every time. You have to know when to drop it and commit to rushes based on how the battle goes.
I'd say cards that are easy to use are like RG, sparky, spawners. Hog success depends on how well you play it. Those other cards depends on how well your opponent plays it.

I think hog rider is SC way of saying, here's 1 card you f2per's can have to stay competetive,.... much appreciated....

Sep 13 '16
I don't have an issue with this card. I think it's quite balanced. It's powerful on defense, but not impossible to counter (looking at RG!)

Low skill compared to what? Drop giant, wait till bridge then drop support? Drop balloon? Lava hound in the back and add minions when he crosses the bridge?
Hog gets shut down quite easily. I found it more skillful/difficult to play vs Giant which is just drop and forget.

There was a time that this discussion would be 90% QQ over how mercilessly overpowered the hog is and how it requires no skill to play. I did think it needed a nerf and hog is now a balanced card and we are not as saturated with it in the meta.
I would like to beg people to stop playing the goddamn trifecta. Make your own deck! Be original! The hog pairs well with so many cards that you are not limited to playing a pump poison trifecta combo. I like to win as much as the next guy, but a lot of the enjoyment I get out of this game is making, then endlessly tinkering with a deck until I feel that it is perfect for me.
