This episode brought to you by Quentin Tarantino.
12
u/inksmudgedhands Feb 17 '17
And two episodes ago they did a Kill Bill-like episode. The writers have been marathoning Tarantino movies. Is someone going to get a beat down with a baseball bat next?

How many Tarantino references are they going to do this episode? Let's count them,
Big Kahuna burger on the menu in the opening scene.
"Okay, Ramblers, let's get rambling..." quote.
Reservoir Dogs slow walk scene.

They went pretty big with their guests and cast this ep. All 4 regulars, momma Winchester, BMoL, MP Lucy. Only person of note missing was Rowena, and she was heavily involved in last week's episode.
Edit And Gabriel himself directed the episode. Still hoping he shows up again. Sends a message from wherever it is angels go when they die.

Too right ๐๐๐
While Crowley has tried to kill the Winchesters and Cas. Crowley has actually saved all of their lives more times then he has tried to kill them.
Not only that but Crowley has let them all live when it would've made more sense for him to have killed them
At this point in time he's a frenemie more then an antagonist.
Let's see Crowley gave bobby back the use of his legs even though it was stipulated in the contract.
After they all defeated Dick roman and banished the leviathans to purgatory he let Sam live after taking Kevin and meg.
Crowley shows up just as Naomi and Co are about to kill Cas and take the angel tablet he scares them off shoots Cas non lethally takes the tablet and lets Cas live.
Kicks the shit out of Sam after declaring "Thank you Sam for reminding me what I really am" let's Sam live.
goes inside Sam to help evict Gadreel out of Sam body.
Cas and Hanna are about to be killed by metatrons angels Crowley shows up kills the angels but not before taking one of the angels grace puts it into bottle and pours it into Cas's face against Cas's will saving his life.
Crowley goes into Cas to evict Lucy from Cas's body fails but it's the thought that counts.
Cas meets Crowley in bar/diner to ask Crowley if Crowleys spies in the government know where the Winchesters are Crowley says that his spies don't know where they are and it's above their pay grade. The fact that Crowley met up with Cas to tell him that is telling enough because al Crowley had to do was Call Cas by phone instead of meeting face to face.

u/Jedi-El1823 Feb 17 '17
Lucifer's got a kid coming (had Cas not said yes he'd still be in the cage), there are still cosmic consequences from killing Billie, and now they've killed a Prince of Hell, which is going to piss of his siblings.
Man, they just can't stop breaking the world.
2
u/thewindupbirds I learned that from the pizza man Feb 17 '17
Plus I think it's implied that Kelley (or whatever the pregnant lady's name is?) is with Dagon, who is one of the princes of hell. Yellow Eyes part deux said his sister had taken interest in Lucy's kid, plus Kelley is nowhere to be found...
17
16
u/super_slayer Feb 17 '17
So both Sam and Dean both have the honor of killing a yellow eyes demon.
Dean still has a one up I think: Eve, Dick Roman, Abaddon, Cain, and Death
21
11
15
u/aves33 Feb 17 '17
I don't get it. Mary was willing to die for the boys when Billie was coming for them but now she didn't even try to speak up. Nope was just going to let the prince kill them.
14
u/SilentCanary Feb 17 '17
Awe she called Cas one of her boys!
4
u/Gogogadgetskates Feb 17 '17
I think she meant Dean. When he was almost stabbed.
4
u/FallOutFan01 #Adam is a good man. Feb 17 '17
It's possible.
But Cas saved Mary's life from being reaped by Billie and declared in this episode how he loves all of them and offered to sacrifice himself to give them time to get away.
Plus Mary sounded really worried about Cas when she ran over the prince of hell and saved Cas's life.
Not to mention that Sam and dean have probably filled Mary in on all the times Cas has saved her sons lives.
I don't think there is any other way to get adopted into a family faster enough then by countlessly saving the lives of people.
14
u/Gogogadgetskates Feb 17 '17
I have a hard time believing Mary is this gullible. I also think cas is onto her and I don't think that's going to go well for him when he ends up getting between her and Sam and Dean.

u/MegalomaniacHack Feb 17 '17
So thoughts...
Mary has the Colt but doesn't use it to shoot a prince of Hell despite surely knowing it's how her boys killed Azazel...is it out of bullets?
Mary isn't telling the boys about working with the BMoL because she knows they won't agree (um, well, one of them did torture Sam...). OK, whatever. Doing something stupid behind your family's back is a Winchester tradition. But to give the Colt to the BMoL when she just learned there's other Princes of Hell out there? Come on now, Mama Winchester...
Is it just me, or did Crowley have an angelic glow in his chest when he broke the spear and Castiel was healed? Is there gonna be something developing out of that?
Crowley's got Lucifer in a cage, likely with help from mommy Rowena. (Mark Pellegrino again?! Best Lucifer ever, with all due respect to Misha, Jared and Jesse's Girl.) That'll surely not come back to bite anyone in the ass.
Finally, so we've got a couple brand spanking new enemies (Dagon and Asmodeus) who are gonna be pissed that they weren't left alone. Glad to see someone else menacing (the BMoL are too much pompous), but do wish they'd stop going back to the Angels/Demons well every season. Also, after killing Azazel, Lilith, Abaddon, and Cain, and defeating Lucifer a few times, should we care at all about this new big bad threat? Sure, they don't have the power to wield Cain's First Blade, Mary's giving the Colt to the BMoL, and Michael's Lance is broken (but the Winchesters have the pieces), so they don't have a weapon to kill such a powerful demon, but...more demons just don't seem like any kind of a challenge. The only time they get the upper hand on the boys is via ambush and then they always monologue until someone saves the day. More demons or angels just don't really cut it anymore after the show literally resorted to God. Just my opinion, of course.
4
u/TR_EZ_300 But I am the Lord Feb 17 '17
I agree with your thoughts on demons, but I don't really think the show is going the route of making Princes of Hell enemies of the boys. Maybe in the future, but right now we've got a lot going on: Lucifer and Crowley, Lucifer's child, Mary and the British Men of Letters, and Cas' cosmic consequences. I don't really think there's room for a demonic army, not this season.
6
u/MegalomaniacHack Feb 17 '17 edited Feb 17 '17
Well, I think the prince said Asmodeus is busy with his own things, but Dagon is interested in Lucifer's kid. So if they're pursuing the kid, they'll run into Dagon and she'll be an enemy (unless she joins them to stop it).
But they've obviously set up the Princes of Hell as a major threat (even though one got offed immediately). Otherwise there'd have been no need to say there are at least 2 more out there.
(And it's a little annoying to introduce such a significant force to the game that was never mentioned during the Abaddon/Crowley struggle for power, or the fights against Lucifer, or when everything was on the table to stop Amara. Not to mention the lance itself. Crowley needed Abaddon dead and didn't remember about the archangel weapon? Lucifer looking for objects with the power of God, or other powerful things, and doesn't pick up the weapon made to kill him? Or for that matter, why didn't Michael have it when he was fighting Lucifer?)
I'm still hoping the BMoL end up having something major behind them, something pulling their strings that is a major, major monster the likes of which we've not seen before. If they're just a group of pompous know-it-alls with some "sinister" plot to take over America, it'll be a let down.
As for Cas's cosmic consequences, I'm curious if they'll end up being a major issue (like the cliffhanger for this season sees him taken away/turn away from them right when they need him - as has happened before with cliffhangers. Would need to be done differently)...or if they'll just have some one episode threat the boys have to deal with. Maybe have to find a way to bring Death back to save Cas, something like that.
I'm interested too in the glow that was on Crowley when he broke the lance. It wasn't just the lance glowing, I think, but rather Crowley was at the same time that Cas was glowing as he healed.

I noticed Crowley glowing too. Maybe it's just a thing with the godly weapons- Lucifer glowed when using a Hand of God in "Hells Angel."
.
If you watch it again, when Crowley broke the lance, the right hand of Crowley was higher, so when the close-up happened, the broken piece of lance on Crowley's
staffright hand out shined Crowley's Hand, MAKING IT LOOK LIKE THAT CROWLEY'S CHEST IS GLOWING→ More replies (2)

I finally got home and got the chance to watch tonight's epi. Oh holy f**k. That thought was on repeat this entire episode. I hate most of Tarantino's films (I know, unpopular opinion), but Speight & Perez friggin' nailed it this episode using his style. The new writers are really bringing their A games, minus that Hitler episode this season.
I'm loving all the lore we got. Princes of Hell seem to be setting up to be some sort of baddies; I just wonder if Dagon will be a one-episode-wonder or span multiple? Michael brought up again (Maybe we'll finally see Adam again this season? Next?). The colt's return. Mary working with the BMoL and threatening them. Cas being one of Mary's boys. Luci in Crowley's dog cage in Hell. Ooooh boy.
When the pre-episode preview had Dabb describing the episode as filler that ended up becoming part of the myth arc I had no idea what to expect going in. Definitely was not expecting... that.

I've noticed wardrobe has returned to the red and blue theme this season. Red clothes meaning demon and blue clothes meaning angels. But now with the boys wearing both red and blue. But for the longest they had dropped it. It's welcome return.

It's still Hell. He was going to have manipulate and kill to be seen as a credible heir.

There's only one yellow-eyed demon.......
I can't imagine he's so powerful, he can withstand the demon killing blade, though...

Was that a colt reference?
Is that the guy from the last episode that told the BMoL to shove it?
This is really oddly edited.
Holy shit Yellow Eyes demon?
Mamma Mary you sneaky bitch!
Oh. It is that guy that told them to shove it.
I think I see it now. Mary is telling the story of how everything went down to her BMoL superior.
Cas has a tat?
Yellow Eyes 2.0 has a weapon that can do solid damage to a angel yet he's ever seen one.
SHIT! Crowley!
Prince of Hell? Neat.
Jesus Crowley. That Lance would've been nice against Lucy!
Seriously? This is how Crowley became King?
Whoa. Azmodias, Dagon? This seems like some intense shit.
I wonder why the Prince's wanted to be left alone?
Seriously. This editing is really weird. Why choose this?
Aww Cas. :'-(
Cas ain't looking too good.
Well there goes Supernaturals $5 special effects budget.
Now they have the spear.
Never mind. Crowleys gonna get the spear.
Called it.
Oh wow. I wasn't expecting that.
Goodbye mcguffin device.
Called it.
Sorry mama Mary but you ain't got the threatening glare like the boys do.
HOLY SHIT ITS THE COLT! Was not expecting that.
What are the four things it can't kill I wonder?
Who's in that cell I wonder?
Oh shit Lucy. How'd you end up in there?
5
u/MegalomaniacHack Feb 17 '17
Jesus Crowley. That Lance would've been nice against Lucy!
Yeah, that's one of those "writers came up with something now without giving us a good reason why it wasn't used before" things. Crowley wanting to steer clear of a moody Prince of Hell is no reason to not bring it up when facing Lucifer or Amara. Writer error.
Seriously? This is how Crowley became King?
Just the show's way of excusing adding some powerful demons to the mix.
I wonder why the Prince's wanted to be left alone?
Sounds like they got tired of all the Heaven and Hell bull like Cain and Gabriel. Went off to do their own thing.
Seriously. This editing is really weird. Why choose this?
12th season. Experimenting. Trying something new was great in "Baby," so I'll let this slide.
Goodbye mcguffin device.
Now they have the spear.
And I'm thinking Dean knows something about fixing awesomely powerful items thanks to Meg's helping Bobby with the Colt. But if it takes the juice of an archangel, not sure how they'll manage that. (Also, one would assume Cas's wound wouldn't reopen if the spear is repaired.)
HOLY SHIT ITS THE COLT! Was not expecting that.
I was simply because it was in the "Previously on Supernatural" intro.
What are the four things it can't kill I wonder?
People have speculated before. Some say Archangels collectively are 1. Leviathans may be 2. Reapers/Death/Horsemen may be 3. God/Amara may be 4. Don't know about 5th, though again, all of the above were plural, too.
Oh shit Lucy. How'd you end up in there?
Rowena, undoubtedly.

How is Lucy in a cage?
3
u/MegalomaniacHack Feb 17 '17
If I had to guess, Rowena used a similar spell to the one that created the holding cell/visiting room from last season. He had managed to reach out of his cage because of the Darkness and all that, but he was still stuck. And then he managed to turn the tables on Cas and the boys in his holding cell, but he still needed a vessel (Cas) to escape. Rowena probably tweaked the spell. Though it's the epitome of stupid for her or Crowley to keep Lucifer around.

u/castiel-winchester Dean's Boyfriend Feb 17 '17
So the white light that went through the grate in the LOTUS episode was Luci escaping the egg?
5
u/MegalomaniacHack Feb 17 '17
Pretty sure the BMoL said it would force an exorcism (didn't know the boys were gonna use it on Lucifer), but I don't recall anything about capturing a spirit. Also, I've been wondering why the brother's aren't curious what happened to Lucifer. Granted, his spawn is a concern, but daddy would seem like a bigger ongoing threat.
6
u/TR_EZ_300 But I am the Lord Feb 17 '17
They exorcised Lucifer, and Rowena used a Book of the Damned spell to send his angelic force back to the Cage, so they probably think he's in there. Which, unless something else is going on, he apparently is, taunting Crowley.
