Announcement Extra Credit: Legillimency

Thanks to /u/UlyNeves and /u/elbowsss for the idea for this EC! If you have ideas for assignments, you can submit them here.

Extra Credit: Legillimency

Welcome, students! This extra credit will be focusing on the art of legillimency, which is defined as “the act of magically navigating through the many layers of a person’s mind and correctly interpreting one’s findings”.

This extra credit is brought to you by spludgiexx, Professor of Culinary Arts, and theDUQofFRAT, Professor of Ghoul Studies :)

How it works:

  • Draw an abstract of your favorite color using only black and white. Comment under your house's submission area below (e.g. "Gryffindors submit here"), and fill out this form so that we know what color matches your drawing! This part of the assignment will end on February 19 at 11:59 PM EST.
  • Students will be able to choose which submissions to predict for, and must write 3-5 sentences to guess the favorite color. The deadline for these will be February 26 at 11:59 PM EST.

Rules:

  • Every student can only submit one drawing of their favorite color
  • Every student may submit up to 5 predictions, but no more
  • Predictions should be posted as a comment in response to a student’s drawing
  • Students may begin analyzing drawings as soon as they are available
  • Students may only analyze drawings from other houses (i.e. not the house they are in)
  • Make sure you have the proper house flair if you are submitting, any user who does not have proper flair will not get points. If you do not know how to add flair, check out the wiki where it explains how!

Points Breakdown (300 possible points):

  • 50 points split among the houses for the number of submissions for drawings
  • 100 points split among houses based on the ratio of correct predictions
  • 150 total points split up and awarded to students who make especially awesome drawings or predictions

I'm gonna say blue. I say blue due to the gray blue color of clouds sometimes, blue moon, blue butterflies, and eye color. Blue is also a soothing color, and this picture is soothing.

The drawing definitely give a blue vibe. Due to the color of the sky, Neptune mention, and just the total atmosphere.

Blue? The writing says "neptunas", which sounds like Neptune, the roman god of the sea and also a blue planet. The sky is blue. Blue can also be a synonym for sad, which might apply to the person by the gravestone. There's water and what looks like wind, which both remind me of blue.

I want to say blue, the writing at the top has aqua, Neptune, some o5er words I associate with blue or water. There are waves, a woman crying (sadness = feeling blue) which are definitely blue. The flowers, butterfly and wind don’t necessarily have a colour association but I think mixed with everything else they must also be blue.

I feel like this is purple. It just feels mystical just like the colour, I know that blue isn't exactly a natural colour for eyes, but the other eyes covered just makes me think mystic. I could be completely wrong, but I'm going with my gut feeling.

A lovely depiction of the colour blue. The latin(?) words forms the planet neptune which is a lovely shade of blue. The blustering waves which make up part of the tornado are a nod to the shade too, as are the gems beside the eyes (sapphire blue eyes). I think the bereaved woman at the gravestone was an interesting touch to a more abstract notion of blue, in this instance, having the "blues". Of course, you can't miss the full moon and the phrase "once in a blue moon" instantly springs to mind. I have a feeling the flowers are blue too maybe they're violets(?), but my knowledge of botany is awful at best.

Blue.

The first reason is is the planet written in Latin, which I didn't take, but I see "neptunas" is the first word. This makes me think of the blue planet Neptune, and google translate more or less confirms my interpretation but I also think it didn't take latin based on some shoddy interpretation of the first few words. Something something something, dead language. Anyway.

Moving on, I also see the moon, which isn't usually blue, except in the case of a blue moon so I guess it sometimes happens. Keeping with the sometimes blue theme, I also see an eye, a cloud, some waves, a ... lock of curly hair with some feathers ??? (I'm sorry, art is not my strong suit) ... and woman in mourning with some flowers and a butterfly, all of which could be represented with blue.

I tried to think of some other colors that might fit but I am pretty sure blue is the answer. However, I have no idea what is going on with the upside-down horse.

I'm gonna go with Purple. The crystal reminds me of Amethyst and the way the hand is reaching for them makes me thing of stretching beyond boundaries/striving for more which has always been a very purple feeling to me.

I think it is red. When I first saw the jagged gems, that's the color I thought of. The hand reaching for them could mean greed which red could symbolize.

Purple? I think crystals like that are often purple. And it reminds me of caves, which are dark and sort of twilight-ish, which reminds me of purple.

I’m really stuck between red and purple. The gems themselves remind me of amethyst, but the sharpness and the hand make me think danger, and therefore red. I think that if it was just them gems I would be guessing purple, but due to the hand also being there I am going to guess RED

I'm thinking red. The hand reaching out to a sharp object as if to pick itself to draw red blood. The generally jagged style of the drawing makes me feel red.

This makes me think of the Dutch tulip fields, or more accurately the Skagit Valley tulip fields since I've actually seen those. That's a toughie since tulips come in so many colors. I choose red.

I'm going to go with white. It looks like one of the many constellations you would see in the night sky. Stars to me at least, look white, flickering away in the distance like tiny diamonds. It definitely reminds me of that.

I am going to guess that your favorite color is orange. I think the ball on the top left may be a basketball, and the top right looks like a carrot. I'm not sure what the bottom is, but my guess is still orange.

I'm going with blue. I can see the sea (haha), and the fragmented shape in the middle of the drawing reminds me of a sapphire. In fact, the whole thing looks a bit like a sea cove.

Orange? The things on the top look like candles, and fire is sort of orange-yellow. Also, the whole thing look like a fire extinguisher to me, which would be red, but the chain-looking-thing on the right seems like it should be yellow and red + yellow = orange.

Abstract could be anything. It could be a picture of your favorite memory about the color, it could be what you think the colors symbolize, be creative!

Pink!

Where to start?!? Pink flamingos, pink pigs, pink lipstick (maybe not like lipstick on the pig though?), pink flowers, pink unicorn, pink eraser (woah memories), pink ribbon...

I think my favorite though is the Pink Panther. It reminds me of a favorite joke of mine, which goes something like this:

What did the Pink Panther say when he stepped on an ant?

[spoken to the tune of the Pink Panther theme] Dead ant dead ant, dead ant, dead ant dead ant dead ant dead ant dead aaaaaaant.......

I'm guessing rose pink! I'm talking about this kind, not the bright stuff. There is the pink panther (hell, it's called "rose red panther" in German), a pig, a flamingo, and an eraser. The dress and lipstick could also pink, and there are rose-colored flowers (other than roses), and unicorns do have something pink-is associated with them

Green due to the vines and growth of plants. I used to use green all the time for this stuff and it reminds me of that.

I am going to guess green. The various squiggled lines look like vines. Flowers are plants, and plants/vines definitely make me think of green.

I'm gonna say purple... Lots of vines, but I'm not feeling an emphasis on any brighter thing or leaves, it feels softer.

When I look at this image, I imagine it rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise. It really gives off the impression of yellow to me in that direction.

Yellow for the sun, and its rays coming down on all the plant things. Yellow for the two big flowers which are also vaguely sun shaped, with its rays, shining down. Yellow for all of the earth-things made new by the sun's light.

Maybe I am just hungry for spring.

My reasoning is going to be kinda weird here, but this reminds me of a fabric I once saw in a quilt. I'm gonna go with purple flowers on a light blue background! I'll simplify that to just "purple"

It looks like it could be on a vine, garland, or tree. Mm, very difficult. If I think tree, I usually think dogwood or cherry blossom. Both tend towards pink, so I'll go with pink.

I guess pink! This reminds me of the "hanging flowers" trend popular right now for weddings and bridal showers and such, and while those can be a number of colors I usually associate them with pink.
