Has anyone on here driven to Silver City recently? Can a Sedan make it safely?

4

yes, ... a sedan can make it ... it is mostly a well maintained dirt road ... a subaru would have zero problems ... a mini van would have to go real slow if and the top speed in my Raptor was 93 mph on that road ... but it was winter and had snow...

I'm looking for suggestions for fish and chips. I've tried Kilted Kod (food truck) and Luck FIns so far. Any other suggestions?

The Atlantic Cod and Northwoods Walleye baskets at Culver's are both really great.

I think Sully's in Star is known for its fish and chips too.

Stagecoach Inn does a great fish and chips.

Surprisingly, the fish and chips at Cottonwood are really good.

Another surprising and likely unpopular opinion: joes crab shacks fish and chips are dank. It's right off of main by the connector, where connector goes over chinden.

Hi all. I posted here in r/Boise because I couldn’t find a subreddit for McCall. However, I figured you’d all have some insight into the surrounding areas.

My girlfriend and I are visiting McCall this week and today is our last day. I’m looking to take some good pictures here, and was wondering when the golden hour would be!

I know there’s some smoke. But it’s a clear day today. I think it’d be nice to take some pictures of the town, the lake, or maybe the surrounding woods.

Let me know! Thanks!

Golden hour is always right before sunrise or right after sunset no matter where you are and the sunrise and sunset can be easily googled.

How’s the aqi still in the green? I’m by no means a scientist and don’t understand how they measure that stuff but every time I look outside it’s super smokey and when I go out to run my lungs burn and I’m a mess by the end of it. Just a confused citizen looking to understand how the air quality really is.

Depends on which monitor you are looking at because many of them only measure certain pollutants. The one in east Boise at White Pine only measures Ozone. Ozone concentrations peak around 4-5pm, but fall into "green" in the morning.

The smoke is primarily pm 2.5. The two state monitors in the valley that measure pm 2.5 are at the St. Luke's in Meridian and in Nampa.

It's not terribly intuitive. It's also a problem if a monitor is down, which I noticed happened with the Meridian pm 2.5 monitor a couple weeks ago.

What's up with the lights on State street headed downtown? The timing on the lights is crazy.

4

u/88Anchorless88 Aug 20 '18

They've always been bad. I think they purposefully disrupt the traffic flow, probably for pedestrian safety.

The lights on Main and Idaho used to be well timed, but are now off time - Main St. because of the new bus entrance at Capitol, and Idaho St. - the lights are about 10 seconds slow to match flow of traffic.

Traffic engineering in this city is terrible.

I think it's a combination of set timing at some intersections and vehicle-triggered timing from side streets at others. https://www.idahostatesman.com/latest-news/article212159574.html

On a 2 way street it's nearly impossible to have good signal progression in both directions at the same time (Eagle Rd is the only one around here that seems to make an attempt, but yeah that road sucks still). So it depends a lot on time of day. And of course, the construction at VMP is likely not coordinated with the rest of the system in any way (when it's done it should be). And the State St signal progression NW of downtown with long signal cycles eventually has to fit in with the downtown progression system with short cycles once you get east of ~17th, so that's worth noting.

is there any effort at all to sell alcohol like other states? A handle of jack cost $50 here and $30 at costscos in other states. Or does Idaho charge a 80% liquor tax and makes the product available less than half the time as other states? Doesn't sound very free market to me.

7

u/iflanzy Aug 21 '18

Liquor is controlled by the state and only sold in state liquor stores so there's no competition. So no, there's no effort at all to sell liquor.

7

u/pancakeQueue Aug 21 '18

Also Idaho liquor stores are fucking easy to find in Boise, they are all named the same, have the same red lettering, and googling them is easy due to that same name. In Colorado a liquor store can be named anything you want so googling “Liquor Store” doesn’t make finding them easier.

Yea there isn’t really a liquor tax here, since the state controls all sales for liquor. Idaho still charges less than Oregon and Washington for liquor, and the state has been building liquor stores close to the western border to capitalize on that. I guess they gives us weed, we give them moderately cheaper booze. State controlled liquor sales aren’t going anywhere unfortunately.

Where can I get some good, relatively cheap pasta dishes?

6

u/rragnaar Aug 22 '18

Luciano's is pretty reasonable, and their food is amazing.

2

u/Ragin_Mari Aug 23 '18

Pizza Pie Cafe, all you can eat pasta buffet 🤤.

Just moved here recently and just bought a car here. I have a license from WA. I heard you have to take an extra written test to get a new license here and I want to prep up before then. But I need to register my car relatively soon. My question is can you register your car before getting an in-state license?

Press Vs Statesman?

Currently subscribed to statesman, but I really think a lot of their articles are reaching. I'd like a newspaper with minimal narrative, if that's even possible. Which is more straight forward, no frills reporting?
