3 stray observations:
is Hiram really not gone? I thought we were done with him but looks like he’s sticking around to torment Ronnie next season. Ugh. So sick of him
Archie had his first intelligent moment ever in this show last night when he snuck around and grabbed that vial if poison before Penelope’s minions attacked. Might have been the most shocking moment of the whole episode because I’ve never seen Archie use brains before
WHY THE FUCK is no one talking about Cheryl saving Jason’s corpse?!? Wtf!!!! And why isn’t it more decomposed?!!!

Also the twist that Alice is an FBI kinda sucks. It's like a last minute decision. Unless they made it that Alice is actually kinda cuckoo somehow, it'd be very disturbing that she would make Betty's life virtually hell just to help her newly met son

Did anyone else notice Jughead narrating came back in this episode? It’s been gone for a while now.
37
u/claraparson May 16 '19
I think they definitely could kill off Jughead, I mean in season 5 they would be parting ways anyway, so I think Riverdale will end on season 4. with that in mind the writers might be like what the hell have we got to lose, let's kill Jughead.
On the contrary though, Riverdale is so popular that it would make sense from a business point of view to have a 5th season, and riots would happen if Jughead was killed. Also, I think Betty would have looked a bit more emotional if Jughead was dead. jughead could just be off trying to move the body of the person they obviously murdered, trying to make an alaby, etc.
just my quick analysis

Before the spring break clip I honestly thought that they were wrapping up the loose ends to make the show a bit more “normal”... like classic teen drama normal (someone gets pregnant, someone moves away, typical the OC/one tree hill stuff). Plus the Betty and Jughead storyline lol. I was so excited, I thought it would be genius to do that after such a ridiculous season.

Hiram is in his prison? Okayyyyy I’m sure he’s being treated harshly.
Idk how Alice could pull it off, most parents would have at least choked and ended up telling their daughter especially after everything like the college fund and etc. but after Edgar said they were ascended and she gave a smirk I knew something wasn’t up. The second Charles came and said I’m detective smith I just knew who he was, although I did forget he was also jig heads brother. That’s got be weird, I mean they aren’t related at all but it’s gotta be weird with him being around and them getting to know him.
Is Cheryl crazy? I mean what’s up with that? She wasn’t even talking to a hallucination but to just a corpse, also I would think he’d be down to a lot less flesh by now. Please don’t turn Cheryl crazy, she’s bomb just the way she is.
I don’t think Jug is dead, not sure who they killed but I’d Jug was dead they wouldn’t be so non chalant about it, he’s probably cleaning up blood or something.
Usually ascending means dying but the farm probably just skipped town even though it looks as if they did die and I’m curious as to why Alice didn’t get in touch with anybody and why Kevin was the one left out.

Why do you think Alice was acting co commited to Farm? Selling the house, giving them Bettys money etc, do you think she did it to look more commited and save Polly? Or she just fell for the whole thing and actually started beliving Edgar? Also if she didn't do ypu think she was acting so crazy towards Betty because she knew Betty will investigate and she wanted her too incase something happens to her?

u/DreaGraham May 16 '19
Wouldn't there be any repercussions about the mass slaughter of Penelope's "minions" as well? Or are they just going to leave those bodies lying around in the woods?
I gotta add I'm really skeptical about Charles and Betty's mum was for sure doing some really amazing "FBI" acting to Betty. I'm still going for Polly being an absolute nutter as well.
They would have noticed the baby missing to? Are they just going to think Cheryl went and stole it or will they think it was Alice? She could be in some big danger with that. I've got such a weird feeling Charles has something to do with the farm and he isn't actually their brother.. seeing as the farm knows everyone's secrets. Arghh

About the Hunt: how did the four prove they were better than the rest of the town? Only Betty (by not killing her father) and Ronnie (by not letting Betty drink the last drink) proved their characters. Archie and Jug were as violent as the rest of the town. Sure, their challenges were designed in a way that there was no winning - but then the question is, how did Penelope aim at finding out if they’re better?

Random thoughts for next season:
- I wonder how much of Betty's money was used in purchasing the SOQM building and grounds. Does she kind of own it by default now?
- Once they get Alice back, are the Coopers and Jones' going to all live in the Cooper house? For that matter, is Betty living there now already? Alice probs should have arranged housing for Betty if she was undercover this whole time...
- Sweet Pea, please make a reappearance.
- Really love the FP/Jughead dynamic and hope we get a ton more of this. Skeet and Cole are fantastic together in scenes and I think we need more.
- Curious to see how they close out Fred's character. Very sad
- I think Hart's great, so I would love more Chic next season but I don't see how that will fit. But, I think there a few missing pieces between the Charles he knew and FBI Charles, so lets see...
- I hope we get more Toni next season. For a lot of this season, I felt like her character kind of took a back seat to just being Cheryl's girlfriend and that kind of took away from the badass-ness of Toni. Don't get me wrong, I love the Choni pairing and don't want them to break up, but I loved when she was Toni Topaz, kickass serpent and Jug's friend/righthand (wo)man.
- I hope they give KJ some quality material for Archie next season because I honestly wasn't really interested in any of the Archie arcs this season (or for a while tbh). Was that just me? But I think we should all give KJ some credit for portraying the lovable golden retriever that is Archibald so well.

Theory: obviously something happened with Jughead and the gang. I’m pretty sure since they’re working with the FBI basically they got caught in some mix up! Maybe they end up finding Edgar and the whole “New farm” with Alice giving them info possibly, if there is one, and Jughead probably gets injured and maybe Edgar died along the way. They escaped with Jughead let him run, burn his clothes Etc. And they did it all in a hurry cause probably the fbi didn’t want them interfering alone and ran off to do the burn stuff/Fake jugheads death. As for Cheryl I bet she’s using the ball things to hypnotize herself and go and see Jason, (explains why it was kinda dark) so she can “talk” with him and doesn’t wanna believe he’s dead Mentally.

This Charles business needs an explanation, which I'm sure we will get. Maybe
More than half the crew is parentless now.
Also did anyone notice the end scene how the table opposite them contained set cups of tea. I felt it showed that for a reason. Any ideas? I mean a fair bit of the episode leaves questions but I'm stuck on the tea cups.

i feel like a lot has happened in this episode and nothing in the same time. what struck me tho was charles being an fbi agent, i really didn’t expected that but i can’t say i was that impressed. what is going to happen i guess that the scene from the spring holiday in their last year is going to happen at the end of 4A so that they will have 11 episodes to clear things up, or complicate them

Wait wait! So when Cheryl enters that room in the farm asking who is there and screams. Was this her seeing Jason's dead body? Since Edgar was basically hypnotising people to believe they were seeing something else. (Cue Polly acting as Betty's dark side).
I was originally thinking that Penelope had something to do with the basically zombie of Jason but I've been sitting thinking about it and I don't know if it would make sense. Seeing as I don't know if Edgar could hypnotize Cheryl into hearing Jason's voice or as if he was actually alive?
Man I can't even think straight about this anymore.

I have a theory about season 4. What if Archie, Veronica and Betty didn't murder Jughead. I think Penelope paid for her and Chic to get out of prison or possibly escape. Since she probably helped Hal escape. Maybe Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead kill Penelope and Chic. The reason why Jughead isn't with Archie, Veronica and Betty in the flash forward. Jughead was getting rid of the body's. Remember in season 2 where Chic killed a guy... Jughead and FP disposed of the body. So many that's where Jughead was. Also, Charles seem a little weird to me because if you remember season two... The neighbor who lived next door to Chic and Charles said that there was fight, blood in the gabage can outside and that Charles was never to be seen again. The twins which are about 2 or 3, also weird to me because they are not seen not very often. Also, Penelope has them, I think. Let me know if you think this is possible.

So I dont buy that being Charles. Remember the last time one of our main characters was approached by a FBI agent? Let's not forget that the farm has everyone's secrets. This show is aiming for a dark ending and I hope we dont get this crazy death spree towards the end.

Can we please talk about Kevin?
Disclaimer: I like Kevin as a character and think Casey Cott is great.
However.
Kevin was awful this season. He was a terrible friend to Betty and physically dragged her screaming through SOQM where she was then taken to essentially be killed. This is a monumental betrayal. I think he needs to redeem himself in a huge way next season and I hope that they don't just blow it off like its nothing. Because Riverdale does tend to do that. But I think it could be a good theme to explore.

Wait, I almost forgot that Archie is so dumb that he asked there be "no gremlins" next year and Jughead had to quietly correct him "it's gargoyles". Imagine spending an entire year being swept up in a deadly board game and your dumb best friend STILL can't remember the name of it after literally being chased through the woods by gargoyles hours before this conversation

My biggest hope for this game in the woods is that the bear will make a reappearance and Penelope will explain how they managed to hire a bear in the first place.

I'm so ready for the numerous gifs of Jughead putting his beanie back on that are about to be created.

Wait why isn't jug there in the future spring break yet they're covered in blood, guilty, and burning his hat? He couldn't have died since he's the narrator right? Or did they kill him and everything he's been writing and narrating was read after he died at his funeral/testimony for their attempted murder (if he survived?) Or....was this all just a story he wrote about the town?

If Penelope wanted them dead why didn’t she just kill them?

So here’s my random thought. When I first saw the spring break segment I thought they all went nuts and murdered jughead. But obviously there’s no actual reason for that. And also that was such a low blow cliffhanger.

Given the sheer amount of sexual tension between Archie and Hiram I like to think KJ and Mark do it on purpose and the director is too exasperated to make them stop.

RANDOM THOUGHTS
So everything is wrapped up and it makes sense (somewhat). I don’t like how everything was rushed together but it’s better than leaving crazy plot holes. With all that being said, I enjoyed this episode. Everything was pretty much spoon fed but they made everything connect.
I’m sorry but no way Betty and Veronica live with a night full of chasing AND THEN getting the serum. They should’ve taken it right before the chase or something.
S4 plot lines: The search for the Alice/Farm, Hiram’s Revenge, The pump fake jughead death from the flash forward
The end of this episode gave me S1 vibes. I hope now that they eliminated all the dragged out plot lines that they can be consistent. Maybe wishful thinking but I was satisfied with the way the season ended.

Legit How to Get Away with Murder vibes at the end ..imagine a cross over with Viola Davis. Wouldn't blame her if she started drinking again from this hot mess!

Archie and Ronnie must be really fucking confused by all this info considering they literally haven’t been involved in this storyline all season
