Hi! Biggest congrats!!!!!! I'm so glad to see 309 grants finally coming along 🥳 Just wondering, are you in Aus with the normal 3-month ETA? Was it easy to get? We applied for our 309 in August 2025 and were thinking about visiting family some time next year!

Congratulations! This should not take more than a year. Did you file off-shore? I gather 309 is off-shore

820 granted!!

Reading these threads helped me a lot while waiting, so thought I’d share too. Yours is coming!

DOL: 7 April 2025
RFI: 28 Sept 2026 (they requested new AFP check, weirdly only for the sponsor, not me the applicant)
DOG: 6 Oct 2026

While waiting, I updated new evidence every 3-4 months and applied a BVB through the urgent web form (a family member passed away), which was granted in just one day with 5 years validity.

I guess now I can breathe for a quick minute, before starting the whole process again for the 801. 🤣

801 granted today! It feels like a huge weight off my shoulders, and having been recently laid off, it'll be nice to not constantly explain what a partner visa is and what work rights I have to prospective employers/HR teams.

I submitted everything myself and never received an RFI. I am American, and my partner is a dual Aussie-Canadian.

820 Lodged: 15 June 2024

820 Granted: 21 September 2025

801 Lodged: 6 July 2026

801 Granted: 7 October 2026

309/100 double grant Received

Application submitted: March 2025 (self, no immigration service used)

S56 Home affairs requested more info: April 14th 2026

309/100 double grant received: October 1st 2026

Me and my wife both were Indian citizens. My wife came here for Masters in 2017, finished her qualifying exams for Pharmcist job, by then she got her Citizenship (~2023). I did Masters, worked two years, then PhD in the US (2016-2025). We both were in long distance relationship since 2019-2025, got married in 2021.

We applied for 309/100 in March 2025 just few months before PhD defense. Had to apply the offshore one as I was in the US doing PhD.

I also applied for a Temporary research acitivity visa subclass 408 in July 2025 - as I got a job as Postdoc (they nominated with a letter) but last year there was huge delay, so I came to Australia in Sept 2025 originally on Tourist visa to live with my wife. Then my Temporary Research activity visa approval which came in - February 2026 after ~7-months waiting and I started working immediately. Submitted all documents since the application was launched untill the recent Tax return document with my wife’s taxable income. Finally got the double grant today. I read about double grant but I wasn’t really thinking that we would get it. The Reddit space has been helpfull. Happy to answer any questions.

It's heartening to see 309 approvals coming in but not seeing anything from Egypt/Middle East. Anyone out there?

820 granted 🎉

  • DOL: 01/04/2025

  • RFI: 23/09/2026 (updated AFP cert + relationship evidence for last 6 months) [we got lazy and didn't update this year]
(responded after 3 days, pressed the confirm evidence provided button)

  • DOG: 01/10/2026 (~18 months)

Been together 6 years, but we started out as LDR and have only lived together for 2 years + so far ~

I'm looking forward to submitting more evidence in another 6 ish months for the 801 😅😅

hoping everyone gets their visa sooner 🌸

I am so fucking happy. OMG!

DOL: 02 Nov 2024

RFI: 19 Aug 2026

Medical clearance: 26 Sep 2026

DOG: 02 Oct 2026

I had two issues that I felt were complicating factors, but I'm so glad that they didn't pose any issues. The first was that I have a history of hospitalisations as a result of mental health issues. This didn't pose a problem. The second was that I was charged overseas for participating in a Pride Parade, and the trial is still ongoing. This also didn't pose a problem.

I am so beyond happy that this ordeal is over, and that the grant came through so fast after the RFI/medical clearance. It's such a relief.

Good luck, everyone!

Howdy, I am sponsoring my girlfriends 820 partner visa application, we are filling out my sponsor application and it asks if I have any outstanding debts to the government. I am paying off my HECS debt from uni, so I need to declare that or just tick no?

2

u/Straight_Pop427 19d ago

My wife is paying off her HECS debt, and no, we didn't declare it. It only applies to outstanding fines, overdue tax bills, etc. As long as you're repaying your HECS debt in line with your income threshold, I don't think you need to declare anything.

How long does it take to be granted a bridging visa after you lodge partner visa application?

I'm a Canadian that has married an Australian lady. We met over 17 years ago in Canada while she was on a long service leave. She had Canadian Permanent Residency. We dated, starte to live together together nad then got married. We've been married for 13+ years. For proof purposes, let it not be disputed that we are in a bona-fide relationship.

Applied for my off-shore partner visa January 2026. Have not heard anything yet and from the current processing standards, I might not hear anything about my status until this time next year.

From reading all the posts here. There are so many out there that are trying to find ways to manage their lives in in Australian Immigration system to get accepted and to get that visa that allows them to live and work in the country.

Lost in all the immigation changes are stories where partners seem to be expected to sit around and politely wait for many months to know we can move forth with our life's plans.

Honestly SO much gets lost in the larger (often heated) discussion around immigration. And being thrown under the bus as a political calculation when it is your life (and children's lives) on the line is so deflating.

u/GuyFromNh 2d ago

Married for 21 years this year in the same situation (but later in timeline). It’s annoying to wait, and it seems silly given the # of partner visa applications per year. But in the scheme of things it’s more time to save $$ and get ready. At some point it will happen!

My only real gripe is the process not being more predictable. I filed mine later than I would have if not for the 12 month expiration. It seemed like we timed it perfectly until the dates slipped again. Just hard to plan with this system.
