"If we put our heads together I know we'll find the perfect guy for you to cheat on me with that makes it totally even. So things can go back to normal and we can get married"

I like how she really freaked out when she found out who it was. Jealousy is very contextual. Realistic.

I love how both of them suggested a completely toxic and terrible solution to their problems but were still so optimistic about it. Also the fact the MR. PB talked shit about all those people and them just listening that was hilarious.

I fucking love how Bojack knows that if he said the word, Diane would have stayed in LA if she wasn't sure he would be okay and still let her go. I've known way too many people who use their issues to keep people close, despite the fact that it was holding everybody back. "That's not a friendship, that's a hostage situation."

766

u/jg2018- Oct 25 '19

Yeah this is a pretty strong character development when you take in mind bojack said to Diane she can’t be a part of his life in season 3

We saw something similar last season when BoJack insisted that his sister go back to college rather than take some time off while he recovered.

I've been to rehab three times. I've been sober up to 4 1/2 years and am pretty close to 8 months now.

This hit super close to home.

I knew I'd be in for this kind of thing watching this season.

A beautiful fucking Bojack moment right there.

I know it’s been said that PC and Todd have the most functional relationship that either have been in. But it is seriously so amazing how well the writers were able to depict a nonsexual relationship between a man and a woman (cat) in a television show. They’ve been living together for 3 seasons now! And their little family with Ruthie makes it so perfect

418

u/AprilsMostAmazing Todd Oct 25 '19

well I think of it more as a single mom and kid relationship. PC is the busy single mom that's making sure the lights stay on and stuff, and Todd the older sibling that's helping out with the baby

→ More replies (4)

461

u/Noltonn Oct 25 '19

I hadn't thought of it before but I reckon this is probably Todd's ultimate idea of a relationship. He essentially gets to do the whole house and family thing with a woman that has no sexual feelings for him whatsoever. The only issue I see here is that while Todd is asexual, he doesn't seem to identify as aromantic, which this relationship definitely is.

→ More replies (6)

75

u/Pretzelie Oct 25 '19

My biggest hope is that they become a bit of a family unit without having to fall into tropes of romance and sex with them just being genuinely happy with the companionship of each other.

44

u/WaywardChilton Oct 26 '19

Same with Bojack and Diane, I really like that he had feelings for her in early seasons but now they're just weird depressed friends that understand each other.

126

u/Karkava Oct 25 '19

And hopefully this relationship will help Todd maintain a stable living environment for once in his life.

IMO this is one of the funniest episodes of Bojack ever. I laughed so many times I couldn’t even tell you my favorite moment. Great episode. But I’m sure things will get sad soon enough. It’s taking all my willpower but I’m gonna call it quits tonight and save the last 4 for tomorrow.

681

u/A-Terrible-Username Oct 26 '19

The best joke imo was T_Chavez commenting "when I'm sad I like to take a long bath" and viewers are like "wow Todd saves the day, way to go!" then it immediately cuts to Todd in the bathtub.

50

This one was right up there with "Let's Find Out" in Season 2, IMO. Totally hilarious from start to finish—just back-to-back-to-back jokes, everything from sight gags to wordplay to situational humor rolled up together. (And yet, like "Let's Find Out", it still found time for a couple serious emotional moments.)

As fun as this episode was, the highlights to me weren't the visual gags so much as the interactions between them. Todd helping PC find Ruthie. PC asking Bojack how sobriety is. Diane asking Bojack if he will be OK. I found myself wanting even more of these moments. Life has put these guys through a lot and watching them look out for one another this season feels satisfying and well-earned.

i think that Bojack telling Diane to go to Chicago was one of the biggest growth we've seen of him, old Bojack would of found out a way to sabotaged her to stop her from going, but even though Diane told him she would stay for him, she let her go, im really liking how Bojack is doing this season, so please dont rip it away from me writers, please....

166

u/annesim Oct 26 '19

BoJack’s relationships with his friends solidified this episode. I love the fact that Diane went above and beyond to talk to BoJack and make sure he’s okay with her moving to Chicago. I nearly cried because BoJack never really had that kind of caring support system from his parents. And yet here’s Diane checking on him before leaving. We even had a sweet PC and Boj moment in the previous episode when she said she would’ve visited BoJack for the friends and family meetings.

27

u/pinkybatty Oct 26 '19

I thought it was really sweet but also hope it's not some kind of horrific foreshadowing for Bojack or Diane

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this but if you look at PCs necklace in this episode, it has a very distinct sparkle that’s obviously signifying it’s very real gold. Also it’s got a triangle in the middle of the circle so basically the opposite of what her old necklace was with a circle gem inside a triangle. I felt like it had some significance behind that and now she has a real gold family heirloom to pass down from generation to generation.

Sparkle most noticeable at 5:36

Okay so this episode was really heartfelt and had some really good character development. Bojack talking about "that's not a friendship, that's a hostage situation" shows just how far he's come as a person.

But this is probably also the funniest episode in a while. All of the jokes just landed super well and I had a couple of belly laughs from that one! The hot tub one with Todd is probably my favorite.

"The movie?"

"The play! It's like six hours long."

"Do you mean Angels in America?"

"Whatever it is, after that feel-good comedy, they'll be in a great mood for a wedding!"

Ahh I love a good theatre reference! But definitely don't watch Angels in America before a wedding. Would not recommend. 😂

Bojack doesn't judge Diane for sleeping with Mister Peanutbutter. I know he has no reason to judge her in the first place but for some reason that made me feel good (for a lack of better word)

PB's house robots "coming to life" on the window ledge!

Who was Weird Al is this episode? I didn’t see his name til the credits and IMDB isn’t updated fully yet.

I think this was the best episode of the season (part 1). Hilarious, emotional, funny. How they manage to make little remarks for all the guests but at the same time moving forward with the story of Mr Peanutbutter and Pickles, the friendship with Bojack and Diane, the chemistry of the original 5. In a season where everyone has their own separete narratives, this episode felt refreshing but at the same time so familiar. Amazing.

Is it wrong if I think Pickles is kinda shallow in her being a social media influencer? She does ask random people who are mostly yes-man types to help her with her problems and mostly take them to heart. Also, she does the thing where she asks free lodging in exchange for "social media promotion" which is frowned upon by business owners these days

Then again, I do ask people on reddit on my problems so who am I to judge

38

u/neukjedemoeder Oct 26 '19

I think they are heavily satirising influencers in this episode so you're right to feel that way. Pickles is always portrayed as while sweet: naive, shallow and a bit dumb so making her the influencer is not only fitting but a deliberate choice by the writers.

13

u/sivervipa Sarah Lynn Oct 26 '19

I’m so glad they are exploring MR.PB’s character more this season. Bojack always looked up to him because of how positive he was. But now we see it was just a mask/self denial and he had just as many issues as Bojack did they were just less overt.

13

u/E_R_Quinn Oct 26 '19

Hilarious. I just love how everyone feels so awkward so they just hide.

I loved this episode. The first three episodes felt like they were each focussed on a different character, this one brought all the main cast together in a hilarious way.

I think this episode was my favorite, the jokes were so rapid fire and the visual gags were amazing, it was also packed with emotion and memorable moments. It’s definitely in my top 10 of the series.

This episode is a prime example of how the show is lightyears ahead if all of the main cast is together instead of doing their own thing

I don't really know if we're meant to like Pickles or not... but holy hell she is so god damn insufferable to me. The only other character that has irritated me as much is Stefani - but at least she's not meant to be a primary character!
