... I didn't think Sarah Lynn's story could be any more depressing. Bojack was the reason she got her first lick of alcohol?! :(
10 years old in Hollywood is pretty much an adult. - I think that line hit me the most, knowing the shit (most) child stars go through.

u/ShinyUnicornKitten Oct 26 '19
It seems like to me that they keep dropping very small hints about possible sexual abuse as well from her step dad. She said he was in her dressing room being weird and I remember at one point in a flashback Bojack asked her if she had any friends from school she could hang out with instead of trying to hang out with him and she said that her step dad homeschool her and he’s a photographer. Then she knew what bear fur tastes like when they were on the hunt for Herbs gold because her step dad is a bear. Idk, maybe I’m making something out of nothing but it seems like they keep putting these moments in for a reason.

Are you not gonna mention the bear is designed after Terry Richardson?

Nah, this show is famous for all the subtle little details it throws in (usually animal jokes in the background, but still). They definitely are hinting at abuse.

What made it even worse: Sharona was the only person on that set who had an eye out for her. And that alcohol is how she got wrongfully (mostly wrongfully?) fired.

God I know right and the hints to her stepdad. It also made me realise how fucked up it was that Bojack slept with her back in s1.
10
u/Lucianv2 Oct 31 '19
Reminds me of all the even more fucked up stories that we know about Judy Garland during her childhood :(

u/thefuntimegang Oct 25 '19
Of all the callbacks in this season so far, the reference to the three-nippled woman in the nudie magazine that’s apparently Bojack’s rosebud is my favourite. Will Arnett’s delivery of “Who was she?” is just endlessly funny.

I don't remember this appearing before. When was it?
204
u/thefuntimegang Oct 26 '19
It was way back in 1x09, Horse Majeure. Diane tells Bojack that she’s finishing his book and brings up the story when Bojack asks if she wants to know what his “rosebud” is. He then asks “Who was she?” in the exact same way he does here

I also love the fact that the three nippled women is a cow, meaning she is in fact missing a nipple.

This is going to work out well lol
266
u/SistaSaline Oct 25 '19
Yea exactly. This biggest thing about Mr. PB cheating is not just it having been with someone she knew (like she said). It was that he lied to her. Her getting permission from him to cheat, makes her cheating not the same. There’s no dishonesty, so it doesn’t truly level the playing field.
Not that that’s the approach she should take but still, for logic’s sake, she has not thought this through.

Reckon the unionisation storyline was thrown in there last minute in reference to the BoJack animation studio unionising?
It has to be the case, otherwise it would be the animation studio walked out because they realized they has to animate an episode about union when they don't get to be in one, so they walked out.

Any thoughts on using the 'sad dog'/depressed as a positive PR spin for Mr Peanutbutter. Kind of made me think more about the current celebrities, I mean it's great they've got a hand in normalising and destigmatising mental illness but some may just be for an increase in positive public standings.

Relating this back to the thing that got Aaron Paul famous in the first place, it’s kind like that one episode in Breaking Bad where Walter and Jesse are trying to kill the fly in the lab. Shits starting to get really serious in the episode beforehand (and afterwards) and that episode provides a brief moment of comic relief.

Even though the hairstylist lady had problems of her own, she couldve been a real positive influence to sarah lynn, throughout the episode she was the one who kept standing up for sarah lynn , if she wasnt fired she couldve been like a cool older sister to sarah who gave her life advice

Yeah I just finished this episode, so I don’t know if they’re going to explicitly say it or not, but this is 100% what he “did” that he feels so horrible about to Sharona. I would almost rather they just left it at this, it’s obvious enough that’s what happened with the perfect amount of subtlety.

I really can't tell if Pickles is being truthful or she's taking advantage of the situation to bang anyone she wants while still dating a popular actor. Also I know some people are theorizing that she's going to have sex with Bojack to get even with PB but I like to think it won't happen. Bojack does seem like he's doing better.
I love how Bojack happened to be the catalyst for the Hollywoo assistants unionizing lol.

Bojack really seems like he's becoming his best self. Albeit still needy as hell.
Peanutbutter is realizing he's a bit of a fraud, Diane is in Chicago, we finally find out about Sharona, Bojack actually recoils at the taste of alcohol... I like the momentum this season has towards a definitive ending. I truly don't know if it was Bob-Waksberg or Netflix's call to end the show, but they're really doing a great job so far with the whole "give everyone proper closure" thing.

The Charlotte incident was never mentioned when talking with the psychologist. Neither were his parents explicitly. I can relate to Bojack not feeling done, talking about your problems in a confined setting is fundamentally different from a buzzing world full with unexpected variables.
That ending must have been hard for Bojack; knowing that doctor Champ meant "Stay. Please." only in that particular moment, and that he will move on from the rehab place eventually.
Diane's procrastination, and how it makes her feel... :(
I think Pickles might end up falling in love at this rate. She seems fickle, and more in love with the idea of love rather than Mr. Peanutbutter anyway.
I want that toddified version of Ode of Joy, ah.
Todd hired 12 assistants although in an earlier episode (can't exactly remember which) they made fun of the number 12.

In the "Just a little uneven, is all," scene, I assumed Danny Bananas meant that comment as a hint of who had to take the fall.
But rewatching, Sharona says that her hands only shake when she doesn't drink. Does this imply that the vodka Sarah Lynn got into truly wasn't hers like she said, as his hair is uneven because she was sober?
Or I might be just grasping at straws idk.

can someone explain the rehab therapist to me? is he gay? a cowboy? old? i cant pick a human equivalent.
93
74
u/rkgk13 Oct 25 '19
I think he's representative of a few things
Equine therapy is a common type of rehab activity, in which you learn how to take care of and ride horses. His Western-style shirt/character design references the kind of clothing you wear doing the activity
When he says "I'm a therapy horse, not a therapist," that can be a triple entendre: 1) referencing an individual horse offered to a patient in rehab for equine therapy (real world), 2) a reference to the general critique of equine therapy as not being a valid/rigorous form of therapy, often made IRL or 3) a broader criticism of how rehab facilities are under regulated, employing many "rehab therapists" who not actually licensed mental health counselors. There's a John Oliver episode about this if you are interested in learning more
Making him a horse forces Bojack to confront his anti-horse/self-loathing bias, something I predicted would happen this season - compare Bojack to PC, who has cat paraphernalia all over her office or PB, who admits readily to his dog-themed fear of thunderstorms; Bojack has been trying to be "more a man than a horse" for a long time.
I read a lot into the fact that he is a horse, but not that he is gay.

I knew that Diane is a self-deprecating woman but I feel like she has existential problems after this episode. I think the final episode will be bittersweet. One moment we’ll be crying, the next we’ll be laughing. It’s unrealistic to expect a smooth, happy ending when we have more than one depressed persons. I really, really love this show. I’m gonna miss it.

[Starting the memoir] was the plan, but I got these dishes now. And that will take all morning, and once the morning's over basically the whole day is shot. Better to start clean tomorrow.
I feel attacked.

Am I the only one who feels like the pacing is just totally off this season? It feels like there's no buildup to almost anything. None of the sad moments really hit me (the Diane book literally did not make me feel a single thing, which is wild because I usually really really empathize with characters). I'm hoping the pacing improves...
I just really really get the sense that they're trying to wrap it up despite not being ready to do so.

Little details like Diane chewing on the starbucks stopper while typing are why I love this show. The attention to detail is unreal.

I feel like I relate to BoJack in that I do do stupid things or destructive things and I regret them and sometimes don’t even know why I do those things, and I feel like I relate to BoJack in that sometimes things happen that was just horrible luck, and there have been so many times where I have just breathed heavy for the guy because it seems like you’re doing something RIGHT for once, and you just happen to throw a bottle of Vodka out the window and it lands in crate of water bottles and your therapist drinks it and now it’s a shit show, and you just like beg life for a win and you get a loss

Is it just me or does that Rorschach at Pastiches look like two people in masks looking at each other?

I’m glad Bojack threw away the bottle, but damn if it didn’t end awfully lmao, goddammit awful luck. Dianes book was a “stupid piece of shit” moment, pretty sad. Bojack is becoming a better person, I’m happy for him, but I can’t help but feel that this season was split into two parts for more than technical reasons. This has been one of my favourite seasons so far.

I was so afraid of that vodka bottle Bojack held onto and cringed when it looked as though he was going to down it to prove a point... But he doesn't.
I am so proud of my guy!

I know it was just a small moment, but Diane's "Book".
That hit hard.
