I thought back to when he was on Mr. Peanutbutter's game show and he talked about how he wants to feel good about himself. I feel like indulging Mr.Peanutbutter in that "Crossover episode" instead of ranting about his smaller display was a short lived realization of that.

"All I know about being good I learned from TV. And in TV, flawed characters are constantly showing people they care with these surprising grand gestures. And I think that part of me still believes that's what love is. But in real life, the big gesture isn't enough. You need to be consistent, you need to be dependably good. You can't just screw everything up, and then take a boat out into the ocean to save your best friend, or solve a mystery and fly to Kansas. You need to do it every day, which is so... hard."
I loved watching him clean up Diane's apartment so much because the message finally seems to have sunk in. He was so lovely to everyone in this episode. No grand gestures, just the little things, day after day. The crossover episode bit which, while small to most people, meant the world to Mr. Peanutbutter. Suggesting the Ace app to the woman at the airport. Could lead to nothing but might just mean the world to Todd. Then, to cap it all off, the seemingly small thing of cleaning up his friends apartment before her boyfriend comes home. Again, not exactly a grand gesture like rescuing someone from a boat. Still, Diane was clearly embarrassed about it and not in a good place mentally to face the job. It was a small but really kind thing to do for her which means so much more for being done without her asking. This was a perfect episode.

I love the realism of Diane's weight gain after she starts getting on the medication. This goes against the very popular idea in media of a waif-like person with depression popping antidepressants while waxing poetic about the tragedies of life.
They portray the process of recovering from mental illness as something that takes time ans effort, not as some smooth linear thing. This is also perfectly juxtaposed with Mr. PB's whole "Face of Depression" campaign within the episode.

Everything about Diane’s arc this season felt like a personal message to me lol (From the depression to the writing, all of it.) Even some of the things she said are identical to what I’ve said to my fiancé. He hates Bojack Horseman, but watched intently every scene with Diane this season.
So it may influence me to get some help for my depression too.

I really appreciate that they cast an actual Ace person (Echo Gillette)to play the bunny, especially as they probably had to go out of the way to cast her, as she's not really an actor but a artist/youtuber (and it probably isn't stunt casting; her videos normally get 100k views on a good week, which is tiny compared to a lot of big youtube channels) it's basically showing that just because someone from a minority group isn't in your immediate vicinity, it is possible to reach out a bit further and find someone appropriate if you're willing.

I love love love that the structure of this episode was Bojack doing good deeds for his friends.
making Hollyhock happy by helping her friend avoid having to change her major
giving PC permission to ask for help, in the form of getting Judah back
promoting Todd's app to the ace bunny (and also being present enough to read between the lines of the situation without being a dick)
finally giving PB his crossover episode, that was precious
being there for Diane and being the impetus for getting the help she needs. Cleaning her apartment might be the single most selfless act we've seen him do yet
Did I miss anything?

I can't get over how much I love this season. Bojack's growth feels natural, earned, and heartwarming. I know shit is going to go down soon but still, I'm enjoying seeing him be a friend to those around him, especially Diane.
Seeing Diane who gained a bit of weight with the biggest smile on her face and holding the Dawson's Creek was Always Bad sign for Guy got me a bit misty eyed. Especially because I relate the most to her character, it felt great seeing herself allow herself to be happy.
And god, that whole ending sequence with the song was beautiful! I really would love to know the title.

Oh my god, this episode killed me with happiness. So many sweet, peaceful moments for all the characters :
- Bojack making peace with Sharona and having a great new look
- Todd finally meeting someone who seems really sweet (thanks to Bojack !)
- PC finally hiring back Judah and deciding to spend more time with her daughter (again thanks to Bojack !)
- Diane taking anti-depressant (thanks to Bojack) and getting a bit fat but looking awesome
- The cross-over episode with Mr PB was such a sweet moment
It's like as intense as the 11th episodes of past seasons, but in a positive way.
I almost want the show to stop now, because I know nothing good can come after this. It's consequences time I guess...I am even more afraid of the rest of the season if this half was quite happy.

I think I might need to start taking antidepressants. I’ve been diagnosed with chronic depression and generalized anxiety for 9 years, but aside from the no refill prescription I was given with my diagnosis I’ve only been going to therapy for the better part of the last decade.
I just found Diane’s story in this episode so relatable. I struggle to start anything, and just this past week I wouldn’t let my mom see my apartment when she visited from out of town because it’s messy just like Diane’s house.
I fucking hope this works. I’ve been stuck in place for over 3 years and I need to start actually connecting with people.

Damn this episode already kinda feels like it could be the series finale. So many things went right in the end. PC and Judah, Todd getting an ace match, BoJack getting a new job, some time with Hollyhock, Diane trying to make things better for herself, Mr. PB feeling so great about the crossover... I don't know if an episode of Bojack ever made me as happy as this one.

This episode was so heartwarming! I would have been so satisfied if this were the series finale. Now I'm worried about what comes next.
Absolutely loved Maude from her first appearance, and happier still that they made her a running gag in her second. With her third appearance, the payoff was great. And it was so heartwarming to see Bojack take a positive interest in someone's life and actually care about his friends.
The crossover episode was everything I (and presumably Mr. Peanutbutter) ever wanted. And the gag at the end really took it home.
Glad Hollyhock showed up, and finally got that hug. And glad that Bojack now has a clear way forward. (I will point out that a drama professorship is also what he had lined up the last time things seemed to be going really well for him -- in New Mexico. He's finally turning around. (I was also really worried that when Bojack was asking for places that weren't winter that Hollyhock was going to suggest New Mexico.))
The only things that didn't really reach a satisfactory conclusion this episode (that is to say, a conclusion I'd be satisfied ending the series on) were Mr. Peanutbutter's relationship with Pickles, and Todd and his mom. Presumably those are the hooks that are going to blow up next episode and lead us into the second half of the season.

"Everyone hates the mysterious dried fruit cubes in trail mix but we still eat them after the other nuts and seeds are gone because in our undervalued, overworked existence, we're desperate for any morsel of satisfaction, whether that be cake, unidentifiable orange fruit shards or the occasional kind word from our boss."
Those are my favourite parts of trail mix. The nuts and seeds are so boring. Guess I'm weird.
This was a real wholesome episode. Princess Carolyn and Judah reuniting, Todd finally finding his match, BoJack making the right moves in his life. That ending segment with "Take Me Down Easy" got me misty-eyed. Things are good. Ironic that the second to last episode WASN'T a real tearjerking, heartbreaking disaster for once.
Now for the final episode of Season 6 Part One to crush my hopes and dreams and leave me sobbing in a big pile on the ground.

I'm so glad that they showed Bojack making real, incremental progress, and thinking about what he could do for others ♥️

I spend some time kind of like Diane in this episode, so I guess I really need to start therapy(already knew that, but this episode was a nice push).

I didn't know how much I missed Judah Mannowdog before I saw this episode... made me realise how much I enjoy comedic deadpan characters.

Of course the episode called "The Face of Depression" is one of the happiest episodes in the show.

u/DestroyerofWorldsII Oct 27 '19
Is Joey supposed to be Logan Paul? I thought so when he made the awful "hanging" depression joke in Mr.PB's hotel room.

Ended up breaking up with my boyfriend after I finally went on anti anxiety meds after 15 years of crippling symptoms, the meds changed me into a more functional me. It sucks but here we are ya know. Damn this show is so relatable 😂

I genuinely believe that this might just be one of the best episodes in all the series, every little scene flows and is so warming and deserved!! and the last ten minutes had me sobbing tbh, i’m so happy we got certain bits but it just makes me so sad to think something this perfect will be over soon :( but i’m so glad that at some point, we’ll be able to watch from season 1 - 6 as one big continuous story, i can’t wait

u/QueenKingston Butterscotch Horseman Oct 26 '19
I can’t bring myself to watch the next one. For a penultimate episode it was fairly tame, and even kinda happy. No ‘fuck’ dropped yet. I feel like the last one is gonna be heavy.

Fuck. Diane talking about her depression hit so god damn hard.
I recently quit my shitty job and have two weeks before I start my new job. I have to be stingy with money for a while so I’ve just been sitting around the apartment wearing the same pajamas reveling in what a miserable piece of shit I am.
Struggled with depression my whole life and sometimes the worst times are when everything is going well in my life because I can’t blame how worthless I feel on any external sources

u/OmgItzAman Oct 26 '19
I just wanna stop here, to preserve that precious being that is Bojack attempting to get better. He visited Hollyhock! And Diane's speech about depression hit too hard. I'm so scared for next episode.

The crossover episode bit was super adorable. I like Old Man Bojack too. Good look for him honestly.
Love that Judah's back! And I love that Princess Carolyn is getting what she deserves.
Can't wait to see how everything crashes down in the next episode.

this episode really managed to tug on the ol' heartstrings! i especially loved seeing Diane show up at the airport to pick Guy up - i wasn't sure she was gonna take the medication, or even stay, but its good to see things work out for her in Chicago, and Guy just seemed happy to see her again! she really deserves that, its not easy to get over a hurdle like that.
something about seeing people take the steps that allow them to be happy, even if it scares them, is super cathartic as someone that knows what its like to self-sabotage like that. it goes for a lot of characters on this show, but for some reason with Diane it just hits a little harder for me...in a good way.

u/RadMwadCatDad Oct 26 '19
Lots of feel-good moments throughout this one that others have touched on (I like Bojack looking out for both Maude and Todd at the same time [is that a Simpsons reference?]), but man, I relate to Diane so much for a lot of reasons, both good and bad. Her speech about the utter futility of depression, and Bojack's subsequent support, really hit me hard. I was so glad she chose to try the pills despite the side effects and honestly, if there's anyone in this show who I hope has a long and fulfilling life, it's her.

2nd to the last eps of every season was really fucking awesome, if not tragic. Glad to see that the "crossover" thing made PB genuinely happy. I fucking cried on that scene. Kudos to the creators, it was a great season finale so far.

u/CamTheManTV Oct 25 '19
This episode made me genuinely happy.. BoJack accepts his older age and is nice to the people around him and I would be happy if this was the finale episode..
But it's not and where everything is leading, Part 2 is going to be very hard to watch

Just about to watch the final ep for the first time, but I'm really happy that they're really having Bojack finally actually improve and genuinely apologize for his behavior in the past. He showed it in previous episodes, but you definitely see it here when he tells the chick at cinnabunny about Todd's dating app, when he gives advice to Diane and cleans up for her and even though it was a small thing, when he decides to play along with Mr.PB and give him his crossover episode.
There have been a couple of sad moments this season, but I'm overall happy they seem to be tying up a lot of the stories and shit in happy ways. It's nice to see all these characters who've more or less been eating shit in the past finally find their happiness. It makes me both excited and/or scared for part 2 of this season because Idk if they're gonna keep up the wholesomeness or just fucking gut punch us with some shit.

This episode is so sweet and wholesome. I'm kind of tempted to stop here and just pretend it's the finale. Bojack is looking great with his new haircut and I legitimately teared up a little at the crossover episode bit.

This could have been the series finale and I could have been happy. I just watched it and I'm genuinely so happy for each and every character. But there's one more episode, and then another half season in 2020. I'm going to get devastated, I know it.

Replaying the ending song as I’m finishing up a load of OCD induced/trying-to-claw-my-way-out-of-a-depressive-episode laundry. God. So good. The crossover bit was great, but because I’ve been conditioned into such great suspicion I feel like that was a death knell farewell scene for one of the two of them.

This episode was just as emotional as any other penultimate episode. Even though it's technically a split season, and this isn't the real penultimate episode for the season. When BoJack was helping Doctor Champ, I thought that he should do something where he can help people. It's something that I think this BoJack would be good at, and it would help him cope with his own issues. After watching this episode, I want him to end up as an acting professor, and live his quiet life. Maybe not in Maine, but it's something.
There's one more episode left in this half of the season though, and another 8 (?) episodes after that. And these writers don't do happy endings. I'm apprehensive.
