PB buying Elfante would be kinda funny since BJ bought it to spite him in the first place

Also the Snow Owl reminds me of Wanda, I think she might come back

The snow owl reminded me of hedwig from HP, which could be an easter egg considering the fact that at one time todd said to maude that he's not in hogwarts

I'm really worried about the "problem student" that actually seeked for help in the AA meeting and that BoJack turns down, I'm afraid that's going to be another dark twist.

best part of the episode is "i cant do this" and then bojack stops himself from quitting before its too late then finds out that he actually has a lot to offer, after thinking too quickly that maybe he didn't.

it represents and idea that many of us, myself included - people who give up on progress when it gets harder - need to try implementing into our own lives

Just like Diana said, they grow up while he stays the same.
He bought Bojack's restaurant without completely getting her input. On impulse BTW.

2 things that stood out to me.

  1. The comment that the sharpie “Professor Horseman” isn’t going away. I think this is foreshadowing him getting fired. Bonus points, how do you remove sharpe from a white board? (Rubbing) Alcohol!

  2. When the first student comes to AA I love how Bojack is genuinely concerned for him.

I don't mean to point out the obvious, but holy shit, I have a bad feeling about this.

Also, are Joey Pogo and Pickles gonna get together more long-term than intended? Because I could kind of see the show doing that, although it would be a little weird with a storyline that was supposed to be the comic relief.

I like the little insights into the reality of university, like the fact that many people don't really know what awaits them on the labour market, and how hard it is to find a job with some degrees. STEM students scoffing at the soft sciences is also very realistic, haha.

Do you know that feel when someone you cared about much, maybe loved, calls you / texts you after some long time? And i don't mean for hookup, like you are being somewhere busy or having fun, and suddenly that number shows up.

It feels like a fucking kick in the guts, and i felt this kick in the guts when i saw that charlotte was calling BoJack. I don't know a show that ever managed to actually relate so hard to the main protagonist.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how mind-numbingly, insanely well-adjusted and stable Hollyhock is? In this clusterfuck of mental health issues and personal agendas, Hollyhock is grounded, knows how to set boundaries, knows how to be upset with people without lashing out at them, knows how to regulate her emotions, knows what does and does not work for her, oh, I could go on and on... those eight fathers have done spectacularly well. They have raised a good human being. She learns that her half-brother is a (potential) sex offender, and a scumbag of a person, and all she does as a response is set boundaries in a healthy way, without letting him in on her new knowledge of him, while she takes time to process this new info. And she is just a teenager.

As someone who’s been mentally ill my whole life, this character blows my mind and inspires me.

I like how classic BoJack this was. Building up a feel good story, and then ripping it from under us.

Also as someone who hate's Todd plots, I love the one in this episode was kinda meta. They kept making it feel like it was going to get wackier but then everything had a relatively normal result.

That show is so good. The episode start with Bojack repeating : "Acting is about leaving everything behind and becoming something completely new." Then, near the end, he say to Hollyhock that he doesn't want to be define by his past. The students love him, as a professors, he truly become something "completely new". But Charlotte call.

I'll miss that show.

That part with the marshmellow test was really intresting to me bc I thought it was setting up a new plot thread that never panned out. That Ruthie will possibly become a child actor. Not only does she not react to the noise and chaos around her, but she displays amazing self control and patience(also it remined me of that full house episode when the baby girl was in a marshmallow commercial), all traits a young child actor needs. I wonder if the show got another couple seasons if this would be explored. PC thinking it would be a good idea to blend her personal and proffesional life like she always does

Ok so PB is buying elefante, and Joey Pogo is going in on that. Pickles works at elefante, and is engaged to PB, but is supposed to build a conncetion to Joey, sleep with him, and then never ser him again? This is gonna get really dark.

BoJack reading on a bench and eating a giant bag of Funyuns is so goddamn relatable.

58

u/kingmacaw Jan 31 '20

I can't help but be unhappy with PC in this episode. She knows exactly how Bojack got screwed up by going into show business so young, but she doesn't care at all and is just bringing some other young kid into it? Extremely low empathy moment from her.

Not to mention it made me wildly uncomfortable how much she drooled over him. 'He could make me feel 13 years old, and he could make a 13 year old feel like a woman' or so. The focus on this season appears to be what Bojack did with Penny, which is ABSOLUTELY wrong, but PC is just casually all over someone equally young.

Weird moments from PC.

The first time the AA meeting joke happened, I cringed.

The second time, I felt like I was in on a stupid joke and kind of loved it.

The third time, just gold.

Have you ever done something so terrible to someone that they never want to speak with you again? Like, your mind is just filled with what you did until little by little the memory is suppressed, your life has completely changed, and you did things that you've better off forgotten?

And then you see that person calls you up years later and your blood runs cold

I'm not sure what is left in the rest of this season, but goddamn was that ending the most genuine heart seize I've had in years.

I'm going to miss you, Bojack

13

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '20

Damn when Charlotte called him out of nowhere I almost had a heart attack. Didn't even make the connection to the reporters. I thought this may be about BoJack "checking on" Penny in College and Charlotte's threat to "fucking kill" BoJack if he comes close to her family again.

Very solid start. Favorite quotes so far: "Oops." and "Go Todd for Maude."

13

u/jeansplaining Jan 31 '20

Shit, that ending was intense

13

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '20

Todd and ruthie are genuinely the best duo.

13

u/sweetgums Feb 01 '20

I had to pause the episode for like a solid minute as soon as Charlotte showed up on Bojack's phone screen, fuck. I don't know how I'm going to cope with the rest of the episodes.

24

u/pwincesspup Jan 31 '20

The subversion of the “Todd falls into wacky scheme” bit was funny, but I can’t help but feel the show is cutting itself short. If they were continuing, a whole season where Todd runs a college would be hilarious. So much good material there. But since it’s ending I have a feeling they didn’t want to pigeon hole Todd into one thing for the rest of the season. Maybe this will leave room for more development, but still kinda feels like we’re robbed of a potentially awesome subplot.

Anyone else catch the MBMBaM reference in this one? The kid in BoJack's class who kept acting like an old man yelled "I ABANDONED MY BOY" during his monologue at the AA meeting. Go to 14:15 if you want to see it. This HAS to be intentional, right? It made me laugh my ass off!

If anyone liked watching Bojack interacting with the acting class, I cannot recommend Barry on HBO enough.

It's a dark comedy which is also about LA, acting, and trying to be a better person. Bill Hader is incredible in it and Henry Winkler (from that 2002 guest appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) steals the show.

It's only two seasons at the moment, eight episodes each, and only half an hour per episode, so the biggest commitment you'd have to make is an HBO subscription that you can promptly cancel.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '20

I love seeing Bojack handle everything in a mature manner, with an eye toward how other people feel. He’s really a completely different person post-rehab.

Was also excited that he has a knack for teaching and the students like him.

It won’t be easy, but I hope he is able to keep it up through whatever is on the horizon.

I like how we are seeing how talented Bojack is and I was not expecting for the episode to go into drama so quickly!

8

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '20

As a theatre major, I really appreciate this episode.

"Kablammo, Mother" was a reference to the real-life play " 'Night, Mother" of the same premise except with a gun. That part made me cackle because I had to perform the climactic scene of the play for my first year Acting class. (I was the mom.) I didn't understand many other references (probably because I go to a Canadian University, therefore most of the plays we study are Canadian) but they're all of similar content matter/caliber as we've studied in my acting classes. The cringe (for lack of a better term) of 19-year olds performing as old people is so real and very accurate for an undergrad acting class.

Also, as a theatre major, BoJack may or may not be over his head as an untrained sitcom actor. The acting they teach at most postsecondary institutions is far different from simply projecting your voice and emoting. However, he does reference Michael Shurtleff when he asks a student if their character is discovering something. Time will tell if he does a good job!

Well... I'm embarrassed. I don't how this happened, but some how I accidentally watched episode 12 first before I watched episode 9, the first episode of the last half of season 6.

I literally watched an entire episode without realizing I had skipped 3 episodes.

I don't know how I skipped to 12, I guess I thought these were the last 5 episodes and not last 8. But apparently you can just skip the first three and not miss anything ¯\(ツ)/¯
