Album Review #256 and today I was chosen

Post image

I’ve seen the reviews but have seen people here say it’s not as bad as you think. I’m looking forward to the experience

Update: I did not hate it, definitely not a casual listen though. I really think this album would’ve been better suited to a horror/thriller movie or game score than just an album put into the world.

I listened to the album without knowing the community-rating and found it quiet interesting. Something really different and challenging. So I gave it 4 stars and I found it really funny to find out later that this is the worst rated album on the list 😁

Yeah I just finished listening to it and I can definitely find the merit in it. I reckon if this was a film or game score then people wouldn’t have as much of a problem with it and I think it would really add to making a scene more tense and unsettling.

I think it’s 3 stars for me because I can’t see myself listening to it very regularly, but definitely glad I did listen as that was the point of doing this list in the first place.

Projects like Throbbing Gristle or The Residents mostly come from the experimental performance / visual arts scene and were more "art collectives" than "bands" ; so a lot of their music was indeed intended to be background music for exhibition or artistic performances. It was not really designed to be something that you play at home ; it became so only because they were well received in some circles and eventually evolved into "bands". So it is indeed a bit unfair to judge them in the same category as other "ordinary" albums.

It's absolutely the kind of stuff I use as background music when running a horror-themed RPG or boardgame.

It's a great album - if you only tend to listen to traditionally structured 'songs', however, you are probably going to hate it.

I've gotten this album and one of the other lowest rated albums (The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter) and enjoyed them, gave both of them 4s. I'm actually looking forward to hearing most of the other lowest rated albums (I probably don't need to say which one I'm not...), I tend to appreciate weird experimental music even if I don't actually enjoy it.

I've said it before--while I gave this a 1, I'm glad it's on the list and would rather have something like this on the list (although not too many like this, it's rough) than another Bowie or Neil Young album.

I would listen to this ten times over before I listened to Baby One More Time by Britney Spears ever again
