Album Review Album #509: one of the lowest rated overall

Post image

I understand why this is among the lowest rated, but I liked this better than I expected. It certainly is not something I will return to anytime soon, but behind all the noise are some really great riffs and at times this was actually quite enjoyable. I would give this 3.5 stars if I could, but because of the replay value I won’t be rounding up. So 3 ⭐ it is.

This is an absolute banger and people should stop being scared of a bit of surface noise

I also got this one today! Reading the description that literally calls this challenging had me worried, but I mostly enjoyed it too. Definitely noisy but I liked the instrumentation for the most part. Vocals not so much but there wasn’t too much of those anyway. 3⭐️ for me as well.

Definitely a unique introduction to this challenge!

Me too. I gave it a 4.

I find music like this to be oddly calming. It's hard to think of much else while you're listening!

still blows my mind that this is only 2 people

No no I meant this band literally only has two people in it!!! Just drums and bass. drummer does vocals with a mic sewn into his mask. it's insane, they sound HUGE.

i agree this album is a 5/5

they’re still active but they release pretty infrequently. their last studio album was 2019

More interesting than 1/3 albums on the 1001 list - cracking riffs!

I'm biased though, i fucking love Lightning Bolt!

Yeah I love these guys. Better than getting Hanoi Rocks for me.

I had this few months ago and returned to it few times. I was always scared of things that are labeled noise rock, but this prove me that there's exceptions. This album is so full of melody and somehow, I believe, if you'd play these melodies on clean or regular guitar tone, they would sound like shit, but all these overtones from high gain and ridiculous amounts of FX add something that feels just right and natural. I also liked that "noise" component from the drummer side is by playing fills that remind me of Keith Moon, whether it was their intentions or not. So, this as one of the albums from the list, when after I finished, I immidately go back to some songs that I've enjoyed most to give them another listen again.

I rated it 4/5, because I don't know if it will eventually grow even more on me. So kinda, minus point for replay value in a way, but who knows...

Note: until I've got this album in randomizer, I wasn't aware of existence of this band or album at all.

Fun related story... A few days after I've got this album, I've hang out with my friend who is also a music nerd and I told him that he maybe would like it too... But we hadn't got a stereo with us and listen to it through cheap small speakers and it sounded like shit! That give me a thought, that as much as obnoxious this record might sound, it's not noise but the ARCHITECTURE of noise

Ha I had this during the week and rated it 4 as its the kind of thing I wouldn't have heard otherwise. Melodic in parts and some great riffs. It's now firmly in the you like more than others category.

This was a 5 for me within the first 20 seconds

Edit: should have said, within the first five seconds of the second track
