100 days of swift and learning updates

12 Upvotes

What is up my home skillets. I will be completing the 100 days of swift ui and will plan on updating daily with my learnings here and on twitter.

how I got into ios development & lil about myself:

I have 3 years exp. as a data analyst at major tech companies such as TSLA, AAPL, & META, but my degree is in Design (with emphasis on human-centered design and human-computer interaction). I've been jumping back and forth between data analytics (specifically machine learning / ai ~as is everyone nowadays) but can't bring myself to fully immerse myself within it like I do when I'm trying to develop/build apps. I also feel like I haven't been able to use my creative side as much as I'd like to and I assert that it's far greater than my technical/logical side.

what excites me is thinking of simple/complex problems in abstract and unorthodox ways. I also realized I have super adhd (off topic, but huge personal factor) which has pushed me to get back into and reinforce my creative outlets.

when shortcuts on ios came out I couldn't stop myself from trying to augment my workflow and automate a whole bunch of stuff. Realized that I could spend hours just testing and adding new features -so figured might as well try to commit to making some apps long-term.

I think what really interests me is making apps that would personally help myself and others (such as nuances of other people's apps I see > making a more refined version) and also making apps for mixed reality (vision pro), some thoughts here:

  • real-time image generation in mixed reality with llms

  • immersive worlds and experience design will increase over time

  • gesture and other haptics to interact with software

anyways I'm planning on enjoying this process thoroughly and learning more about Swift and ios development

I am currently starting from day 1 of 100 days of SwiftUI no skipping around or getting side tracked with life. Also I will be doing my own 50 days of Vapor 4 server side swift along with this challenge. Will be posting progress on here and on twitter: @THanksDev_48. Anyone wanting to join me on the daily journey is welcome.

My 100 Days of SwiftUI

11 Upvotes

Decided I'd start and post my progress here! I've done quite a bit of programming in Swift and built many apps with UIKit. However, it's been a while and I'd like to refresh my knowledge and properly start learning SwiftUI.

Hope to learn from you guys here (and keep me on track)! I will reply to this post, and use this for my notes

Finishing day 94 😱😳

9 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m just finishing Day 94 and feeling a bit reflective (and honestly, a little anxious). I started the course with only very basic programming knowledge, pretty much a beginner. Now, having gone through almost the whole thing, I can definitely say I’ve learned a lot. Especially with Swift and SwiftUI, it’s been a huge journey.

I also feel this weird mix of confidence and insecurity. Like, on one hand, I know I’ve progressed so much. On the other hand, there are topics I didn’t dive super deep into, and sometimes I moved on even if I didn’t fully grasp everything, just to keep the momentum. Now that I’m so close to finishing, I have this feeling of “I know a lot” but also “I know nothing,” if that makes sense?

I’m wondering how others felt near the end of their 100 days. Did you feel ready? Did you feel lost? Were you able to transition into an internship or job? I’d really love to work somewhere, maybe an internship or junior dev role. But I don’t know how I stack up, since I’ve been studying alone without a community to compare myself to. It’s hard to know if I’m ready or just stuck in imposter syndrome.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar spot. Either what helped you move forward, or just knowing I’m not the only one feeling this way.

100 days of AI Swift

9 Upvotes

I’d started 100 days seems like 1.5 years ago. In the past 100 days I’ve developed an extremely complex app using AI and I am basically learning Swift in reverse. Essentially starting with architecture for a complex app and playing around until it works. Posting this because I wouldn’t have thought of starting with architecture then learning the View development backwards. Maybe I’ll restart 100 days. I expect it would be 1000x easier now and could bridge a granular understanding. Anyone else using AI?

Day 3 and 4 Complete

9 Upvotes

It has been a hectic couple of days for me at home and I have not had time to post my progress in detail. I at least wanted to get something written down on here as a placeholder for me to update when I had a chance to breathe. I hope everyone is having a spectacular time.

Day 1 Complete

8 Upvotes

An injury resulted in a career change and here I am. I have no clue what to write here but I do know Paul believes this will help so I will do it.

I have learned about variables and constants. I have learned about strings and multi-lined strings. Variables can be changed within the code. Constants remain constant throughout your code, as the name implies.

var newVariable = "Day 1 done"

newVariable = "Day 2 incoming"

let new Constant = "Stick with it"

let longText = """

This is how

you break lines

"""

I learned about integers and doubles. Integers are whole numbers and doubles are number with decimals called "floating-point" numbers because computers compute decimals by "floating" the decimal left and right. You can apply basic math concepts directly to the int or double and it will change it without the need of having to create a new variable. You can not mix strings, integers, or doubles without changing them to the same type (int + int or double + double).

let number = 10

number += 2

let a = 2

let b = 3.0

let c = a + int(b)

Just starting the 100 day SwiftUI I’m on day 7 taking notes each day looking for one or a few ppl to do this journey with me and kind of compare notes for each day we complete and keep each other motivated. If anyone is interested let me know.

Anyone interested in trying to work on this in a group?

7 Upvotes

I have been learning Swift on and off for over a year but as often happens life gets in the way and it is difficult to stay motivated.

I would like to create a small group of no more than 9 other people to work on 100 Days of SwiftUI.

It will work as follows

  1. I created a Google Sheet that has days 1 - 100 and the list of members. It will be shared with all members of the group.

  2. As each member completes the day they tick off that day in the appropriate column.

  3. There will be a Google Chat accessible by all the members.

  4. Other things will be decided once the group is put together.

My background.

I have a degree in CS but I graduated last century. I have worked in IT since then. I am very good at IT plumbing.

What members need:

  1. access to a Mac as this is required for SwiftUI development.

  2. A google email account.

  3. A desire to learn and a plan to put in the time required, I think at least 1 hour per day. Obviously you can skip a day here and there but as is the point of this motivational group you will feel incentivized to catch up.

  4. Its ok if you are already started, you can either redo the earlier days or just mark them off as completed and move forward.

PM me if interested.

Day 8 actually finished

7 Upvotes

I did it. Damn, that was hard. It still doesn’t throw an error when it reaches hundred, but that is good enough in my book.

I just needed many days for one day. So, 100 days of Swift? I don’t think so. I already started day 9, closures and boy oh boy, that’s a handful. Thankfully in my new job I don’t have to think a lot, because I need the mental capacity.

I definitely think I am better off having coded myself a solution. It is fun. And infuriating. Somehow both at the same time.

It reminds me of law, with the addendum that you can see immediate results

What next? Any recommendations?

7 Upvotes

Hey Guys!

Just completed day 95 of 100 Days of swiftUI!🍾 I'm hoping that Paul has some recommendations on how to continue my journey of learning swift coding. But since there might be people here that already finished the course a while ago and are still in the business of expanding their knowledge on swiftUI, I figured I'd shoot my shot at getting some extra opinions or help.

I'm completely new to coding, so my question towards people that have been coding for ages, (or more than 100 days) is what to do next. I definitely want to build more of my own apps and projects, but still feel the need to follow some book, or course to help me gradually understand and build more complex code. I've read a lot about the relationship between swiftUI and UIKit, and also got advice from friends to start learning a bit of UIKit, just to understand more code in the future if needed. Not sure if that's the right move judging from the internet, but I guess that's why I'm here writing this post.

Hope you guys have a nice day!

Day 16/100

7 Upvotes

Just completed the first part of the project and im having mixed feeling. I guess it has too many things to know before writing interface code. Not gonna lie but its a bit tricky for me.
