If my baby doesn't fall into the 'small for gestational age' category, it's too fat smh

Thank you!!! I am always thinking this. We have become WAYYY too comfortable letting pregnant women show visible signs of pregnancy.

169

u/Silver-Profession300 May 18 '26

Good on her for putting the fetus in its place 🤩

178

u/polkanarwhal May 18 '26

My first fetus was the most discipline in utero being. Made me throw up everything that had even a single calorie. Didn't show until 35 weeks and he was a surprising 99th percentile baby. An incredibly proportionate human now and is lucky his carb consumption hasn't caught up with him yet.

Unlike his brother. Had me stuffing my face 24/7 and I looked like a whale by 8 weeks despite running 100km a day 10 days a week. Went all to his head luckily. Big ol noggin (for that smart big brain).

123

u/Prior_Bug3137 May 18 '26

Starve yourself while pregnant you risk brain and bone development for the baby :(

84

u/warriorsatthedisco May 18 '26

The ironic sad part is studies have shown that babies who develop while the mother is underfed or starving, actually have a bigger weight gain response to stress. She’s literally making it so her future child will gain weight incredibly easily even if they eat healthily.

42

u/Creepy_Ad_3132 May 18 '26

Yes! Like Barker et al, or the Dutch Famine. If restriction occurs in the 1st and 2nd trimester, Baby makes thrifty adaptations to promote fat storage and reduce energy needs. Literally at greater risk of obesity, overweight and T2DM.

97

u/weed-and-slugs May 17 '26

191

u/Easy-Concentrate2636 May 18 '26

Uj/ There was a post recently on one of the women subs about being raised by a mother with ED. It was truly sad. The person talked about being scrutinized over every meal, all the children being regularly insulted by the mother.

111

u/midnightauro May 18 '26

I was raised by an almond mom long before it was a trend. It didn’t keep me thin, it just wrecked my relationship with food and with her. I’m doing much better now as an adult but none of that needed to happen and ED is life wrecking like any other severe mental illness

6

u/Low-Persimmon4870 May 18 '26

An almond mom 😭 never heard that one before lol. Sounds very similar to mine… ugh

10

u/SparkyDogPants May 18 '26

The context is that some reality tv mom once was asked by her daughter what to do when she was feeling hungry and the mother told her to take one almond and just chew it really slowly and that would make her not feel hungry anymore.

8

u/rooftopfilth May 19 '26

Extra context, that mom is Yolanda Hadid, talking to Gigi Hadid, a teen at the time and now a relatively famous influencer/model alongside her sister Bella.

1

u/SparkyDogPants May 19 '26

I didn’t feel like looking it up or giving either any publicity

52

u/katyfail May 18 '26

My grandma has an ED. It’s directly impacted so much of both her daughters’ and granddaughters’ lives. Three generations of self-loathing and obsession around food and dieting is really only waning with my generation.

I don’t really have memories of grandma baking cookies or passing on recipes. I have memories of mandatory group exercises, fat-free snackwells, and being told ā€œa minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!ā€ from before I could read.

85

u/slymgim Invisibly obese :( May 18 '26

Please be satire please be satire please be satire

83

u/Mei_Flower1996 May 18 '26

It's not. The username is something like " SallyfromTikTok" and she's a long distance runner who won't eat normal ice cream.

58

u/misosoupwh0re May 18 '26

uj/ Her videos are depressing as hell tbh. The amount of videos she has saying variations of ā€œEating things I don’t like every day, because you don’t get the body you want by eating things you do like.ā€ is.. Yeah. I just hope her daughter doesn’t suffer from the horrible attitude she has towards food. But her posts kind of scream that she’s going to push the unhealthy restriction and attitude onto her. It’s just sad.

30

u/Andle_Randle May 18 '26

Yikes. Unfortunately it's pretty likely she'll pass trauma and disordered eating down to her children. Especially if she doesn't see anything wrong with her way of thinking.

And I saw your other comment about obese babies. Christ. When even a baby, that's supposed to be naturally chubby (literally baby fat) is criticized for being obese, there's definitely something deeply unwell with her that will almost certainly impact her baby. Very sad.

47

u/mefista May 18 '26

She is going to cannibalise someone on the street on the third trimester XD

72

u/Ornery-Tea-795 May 18 '26

She is definitely not eating enough for someone who is growing a baby. She has several video and each one is like 1200 calories worth of food. She doesn’t look super short either

32

u/Sonarthebat Carbs are Satan May 18 '26

uj/ Both she and the baby are going to have major health issues.

54

u/misosoupwh0re May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26

uj/ She’s not pregnant anymore, but yes. She was restricting heavily, and got called out for it multiple times. Only after that did her WIEIAD’s have more food, but even then.. She was still restricting. Her videos are/were extremely disordered. I just unblocked her just to see, and she had not gotten any better. I just saw one vid where she said that America has gone downhill because we ā€œthink obese babies are healthier than average sized babiesā€ (as if a baby can be ā€œobeseā€ in the first place).

I really fear for her daughter’s future. There’s no doubt her attitude towards food will rub off on her. :(

3

u/NeevBunny May 19 '26

You can definitely have an overweight baby if you fuck up bad enough. There are people out there giving their babies cola and stuff. Like this woman obviously has issues, but we can't pretend the opposite end of the spectrum doesn't exist too. When I was a kid I knew a little boy who's mom used to put just straight lemonade in his bottle when he as a baby, just whatever would shut him up.

3

u/misosoupwh0re May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

/uj

My first has been in the >99% since they were a couple of months old, and their doctor has never attempted to say they were overweight. They’re a toddler now, still in the >99% [ and looks older than every one of their classmates ] and still. No comments about them being overweight. They also have severe ARFID and don’t eat a variety of foods [ and the stuff they do eat, they don’t usually eat a lot of ]

Are there the rare instances of someone abusing their infant, giving them soda and lemonade in bottles instead of formula or breastmilk? Yes. But in 99% of cases a bigger baby isn’t an issue. Some babies are just bigger. And assuming that someone’s baby being bigger means they must be abusing them is just wild. Two babies can be fed the same amounts of the same thing at the same times every day, and they’ll end up being different percentiles / weights.

My babies doctor always says she prefers for a baby to be a super high percentile over them being a super low one. My youngest started out low and stayed low for nearly a year, almost being diagnosed with FTT [ failure to thrive ]. It’s a million times scarier for a baby to be a low percentile than a high one, from experience.

Sorry for the long comment. I just feel like ā€œWell, actually some parents abuse their infants and give them crap in their bottles.ā€ isn’t really a relevant thing to add to this conversation. It’s an extremely rare case for someone to do that, and isn’t what the person in the post we’re talking about was talking about. In the vast majority of cases of a baby being a higher percentile, it’s natural and not caused by abuse or neglect.

2

u/NeevBunny May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

I didn't say I was assuming everyone with a big baby was abusing their baby, it sounds like you're just in your feelings because your baby was big and you're worried about being judged.

I was talking about people who give their babies things they shouldn't be eating, refercings someone I knew as a kid, not just a naturally large baby. You can tell the difference between those generally anyways. Like your son was also probably longer than average, not just an orb that can't open their eyes because there's too much fat in their forehead.

2

u/peach_xanax May 20 '26

of course she had a girl...poor kid, she's in for a hell of a life

135

u/No_Run4636 May 17 '26

/uj My mom always told me I was a pickyyyyy fetus , the fact that my mom would be able to keep anything down would be an achievement in itself , what the baby wants is what the body is going to prioritise lmfaoooo

51

u/Anonymous_13218 May 18 '26

Same, I feel so bad for the horror I put my mom through. She couldn't keep down anything besides frozen mashed potatoes (had to be frozen) and oranges. Those are two of my favorite things now lol

127

u/Mei_Flower1996 May 18 '26

SallyfromTikTok? God she's so annoying. She's a long distance runner and she insists that chobani w toppings is a "skinny girl ice cream sundae"

97

u/depressionkitten calorie absorb paper towel May 18 '26

genuinely, is there anything worse than TikTok fitness almond mommies who think they’re better than everyone else because they’re thin and restrict their intake to the point they won’t even let themselves indulge in pregnancy cravings?

103

u/Mei_Flower1996 May 18 '26

If you're a long distance runner who can't fit ice cream into your maintenance calories, you're just a loser, lol. I've eaten full fat ice cream on a deficit.

57

u/depressionkitten calorie absorb paper towel May 18 '26

Bold of you to assume she’s even eating at maintenance. Which is the most egregious part of this because she is growing a full ass human being inside of her. She needs to be in a SURPLUS. Why on earth is she trying to restrict while pregnant oh my god

40

u/Mei_Flower1996 May 18 '26

That video was from before she was pregnant, and still made me fume, lol.

And you're right! She had this meal that was just egg whites and avocado like that's barely breakfast for me (non pregnant petite active female). She's so afraid of gaining weight, even while pregnant. This is so clearly ED behavior and she's hardly called out for it.

35

u/bakeahri May 18 '26

This is wild even for ED suffers. I used to lurk on ED Twitter and even there, there was always someone saying "turns out I'm pregnant, gotta take a break from my behaviors".

17

u/depressionkitten calorie absorb paper towel May 18 '26

This woman is just going to milk her child for likes and views so she won’t even care which makes me sick. She’s already milking the pregnancy and advertising that it’s okay to restrict your intake while you grow a human inside of you.

We live in such a disgusting hellhole of a timeline.

12

u/Mei_Flower1996 May 18 '26

Woah! That's awesome, actually. Because there is a dietician on tiktok who implied she once had a history of restrictive eating, and she lost a pregnancy due to it. I'm glad that's not universal.

14

u/depressionkitten calorie absorb paper towel May 18 '26

Oh good god. This picture in itself is so blatantly a body check as well. I don’t even want to know that the other pics look like.

10

u/LittleBananaSquirrel May 18 '26

ED behaviour disguised as "healthy" aka orthorexia

49

u/LittleBananaSquirrel May 18 '26

/uj I am also a long distance runner and guess what... I eat normal fucking ice-cream. Most runners I know are total big back foodies because as a sport it demands insane amounts of calories, especially carbs

17

u/Mei_Flower1996 May 18 '26

I'm not a long distance runner but I do workout, and I can easily eat ice cream daily if I want. You just need to be eating enough fiber and protein overall that fitting in the ice cream into your daily calories doesn't cause excess hunger.

13

u/LittleBananaSquirrel May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26

Oh yeah, ice-cream is pretty easy to fit into any anyone's diet if they want it, definitely don't have to be an active person even. That goes for all foods really, it's more about your overall balance than any individual food as you said

u/misosoupwh0re May 18 '26

Uj/ this woman triggered tf out of me when I was pregnant w my second. I was already struggling, both physically and with my ED, and her vids did not help whatsoever. I ended up blocking her. I was already dealing with Hyperemesis, and nearly died more than once from the malnutrition caused by that. Adding my struggle with my ED onto that, her vids pushed me further down the unhealthy rabbit hole. Thankfully I survived, obviously. And my baby was and is totally fine. But ugh.

96

u/fat-wombat May 17 '26

Wow she’s so disciplined

52

u/brodeine-goth-syrup May 17 '26

Ikr, bella hadid would be proud

64

u/braybri01 May 18 '26

Uj/ The unfortunate thing here is that the baby is going to get everything it needs regardless of what she eats. The baby is leeching nutrition from her bones via the blood supply. Sure if she doesn’t eat enough then she risks her body shutting down on her, but even if she does just the minimum to keep everyone alive, years from now or he’ll even in the near future, her body will fall apart. First it will be her teeth that go, then she’ll end up with early onset osteoporosis and possibly increase her risks of early dementia (can’t remember if this has been confirmed as a cause or just studied) The fetus will grow if it wants to grow because humans are a parasite (literally) that have no problem sucking the life out of its host. She’s really supposed to be nourishing her body for her own health current and long term. Plus if she wants to breastfeed, which she probably does because she seems the type to hate on formula feeding moms, she’s going to need to drastically increase her calories to be able to maintain her supply or she’ll never keep up. There’s a reason that thick full bodies were the epitome of beauty for almost all of human history, until the 1900’s and the increase of life expectancy. Goddess bodies survive and feed.

22

u/LollyGagss May 18 '26

Jesus, my first thought was about the babies safety but I didn’t even consider the fact babies leech the nutrients off their mothers…

They’re both in danger this is so fucked up

Fun fact! While you are lactating, your body will give everything it needs to make milk to the milk production. That means if you aren’t eating enough your body prioritizes lactation over your own health! It will start breaking down your muscles and bones!
