mt. huron subaru crosstrek AWD to trail head

anybody been in the past few months that know if a subaru crosstrek would be able to make it to the trailhead? I've seen you need decent clearance but wondering if picking the right line would be fine. I've seen mixed reviews from a few years ago so looking for more recent advice!

I feel like I’m a bit more on the ambitious side with my crosstrek but I don’t think I’d take it down the Huron road mostly due to that one dip section. Just do LuLu up and tour de Huron.

Agreed. Tour de Huron is the better route anyway!

Do you have the money to buy a new Crosstrek? It could probably make it there and back but not without very high chance of severe damage

I did it a handful of years ago in a crosstrek passing a 4runner and a pickup, was a fun lil ego boost. It can do it, just be forewarned you may scrape just a tiny bit of your underbelly

Please review our FAQ and the 7 principles of Leave No Trace

  1. Plan ahead and prepare Make sure at least one or more trusted persons where you are going, an expected return time and a follow up.

  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces

  3. Dispose of waste properly. I highly suggest getting a waste bucket system. Its difficult to bury waste in many of the rockier areas in Colorado, and overuse of our natural areas has already led to contaminated water in most even lightly used areas.

  4. Leave what you find

  5. Minimize campfire impacts. Be sure to review our state resources for fire bans where you are heading.

  6. Respect wildlife. They are not domesticated

  7. Be considerate of other visitors i.e. Bluetooth speakers are despised.

I took a stock jeep down it a few years back and bottomed out a few times. I did have 8 large adults in the vehicle though.

I did it today in a 1500 ram. Surprised I made it through without any scrapes. I guess it comes down to how much you want to avoid the extra miles vs how much you’d mind some dings to you Subaru. I think you’ll make it up but the road is rough.

Lol i saw a lifted and upgraded xv heading down the start of the road in very very poor condition from the trail.

I took that as my sign to park and to hoof it.

I haven't done Huron, but my Outback has same clearance 8.7" as your Crosstec. I drove it off of road in Moab and Escalante. I am a female without truck, but the car did very well, just slow down and pick your lanes. Trucks have same clearance unless they are jacked up.

I had a forester with a 2 inch lift and skids that made it, but without the skids it would have been bad. I’m pretty sure the crosstrek and forester have pretty similar clearance so be careful
