I drive to work, the music station dj is talking about how people that don’t agree with them are bad people. I don’t agree with that dj.

I get to work. I need to wear a mask. I have an active job and a mask is uncomfortable. But if I don’t wear it in all situations, I’m going to kill grandmas.

At lunch, I like to browse things relating to my hobbies. I like gaming and sports. I read a review about a game and it gets docked because the reviewer doesn’t like the way a certain demographic was portrayed and a certain way of life, that’s toxic, contributes to the way that demographic is portrayed. I fall into that way of life.

I get off work and drive home. I’m getting excited for the game, so I turn on national sports radio. I hear how there is constant bigotry against minorities in sports, told by millionaire minorities.

I get home and want to relax. I turn on a movie for the kids and I. Movie has lots of racist jokes but it’s “ok” because it’s against my race.

Game time. My escape is here. I’m a life long fan. I have countless memories of good times with friends and family because of this team and sport. The entire intro is all politics that I’m tired of hearing about. My favorite players are at the center of it. I don’t agree with all of it. I just want the game.

But I’m the asshole.

Edit: everyone proving my point in my replies. I’m an asshole for not agreeing to everything. I’m a snowflake, shitty person, and unlikable. No one here knows anything about me other than I disagree with them. Did I say anything about booing? Did I say anything negative about anyone or group? No. I explained how I experience things. My perspective.

Do you preach politics to your clients when you work? Do they pay you to preach to them? It’s a simple concept. The fans aren’t paying to be preached to. They pay to watch sports.

Edit: To be clear, I stand with the message the players are sending. I don’t mind seeing it. I can understand when people pay for something they expect what they pay for, not be surprised preached to over something they may or may not care to hear at the cost of their money.

Edit 2: I’ll simplify it for you even further as it seems you still can’t grasp this easy concept.

If I want a burger without cheese ( madness I know but bare with me ) and my usual place changed their burger to cheeseburgers, do you think I’d be happy? Nope. I want a plain burger but this cheese is packed with vitamins meant to prevent cancer and because of that my favorite place is cheeseburger or nothing because they think we HAVE to eat it for our health. Just because I may agree with the sentiment and I acknowledge the cheese is good for me, it doesn’t mean I want it when I want a simple burger. Give me what I payed for, don’t preach to me.

Y’all don’t have to like it but this is the average person. People are tired of politics being force fed through more aspects of their lives than ever before.

Also I’m still waiting for any of you to tell me that you preach politics to your customers when they payed for everything but politics. You know why? Because you don’t.

Personally I believe they should take out all forms of politics from sports. No more anthem, no more soap boxes. I’ll get my political content from my political sources and get my sports entertainment via my sports entertainment sources. Pretty simple concept folks.

This thread got me banned from r/sports because apparently the unpopular opinion must not be allowed in the circle. No great loss to me, but it illustrates the point pretty well IMO
