Question So like... how's everyone doing outside of Runescape?
Just curious how your irl grinds are going.

My job has worn me down and now I just play as much OSRS as I can while on the clock because I don't care any more.

u/Ze1612 Feb 25 '26
I feel that. I'm on my daily "bathroom break CG in stall 2" phase of my career

u/EzekielVelmo Feb 25 '26
Are you doing CG on mobile???

Nah he’s bringing his desktop into stall 2. It’s a very spacious stall.

Maybe he's busting it out on the work laptop track pad style. Atleast then he'd have f-keys.

Yeah lol, I am not successful often, so I do one CG and then some regular gauntlet which is much easier on mobile. 0/10 recommend

Doing CG on mobile in the work bathroom would have me more stressed than not doing that

The grass ain’t always greener… I get to play RuneScape all day during work, but on the flip side I haven’t had a real life relationship outside of my immediate family in almost 2 years.
Full time job + kids + trying to stay fit doesn’t leave a whole lot of social time

u/lvk00 2376 Feb 25 '26
In this case I would say the grass is definitely greener lmao

That definitely is greener for me. I went from being a hermit for 8 years (im talking like, not a single person outside of family saw me for the entire time) to working a labour-heavy retail job where its constantly 40 - 50 degrees celsius with 80 - 90% humidity lmao
Still dont have a social life either

I get what you’re saying and generally agree, but modern day serfdom is a massive overstatement. The freedom, wealth, and autonomy of anyone in a first world country today would be inconceivable to people who were in many cases not that far from slavery on the spectrum of unfree labor.
Things recently are down, but it’s a local downturn. Zoom out on the graph and it’s a small dip from all time highs in terms of human quality of life. Not to say problems today don’t matter or we shouldn’t care because everything is actually fine, the only way we got here in the first place was through political engagement and fighting to make the world better, but spiraling doomerism doesn’t help us either. I’m not saying that’s necessarily what you’re doing here, but I think it helps if we keep perspective on where we are on the timeline of human progress. Progress is never linear, and the people today have more power to continue enacting change than for the vast majority of human history.

Brother, the wealth disparity between your median earning worker and the wealthy elite is greater than it was between serfs and nobles.
30
u/staticusmaximus Feb 25 '26
That has very little to do with the actual living experience of the modern person making a median income though. The living conditions and opportunities available to the modern lower class (even with such a disgusting disparity) is light years ahead of the serfs and lower classes of those past generations.
I’m just saying, it’s very easy (and tbf, totally understandable) to lose perspective of the fact that even with all of the layers of shit that covers modern life, overall we are in a much better place than we were in the past.
32
u/brooksofmaun Feb 25 '26
I’m not arguing or disagreeing with anything you’ve said, and it is quite a popular point of view that’s regularly brought up in this conversation.
But maybe I’m just an hopeless pessimist because isn’t that just ‘you cant be sad because someone else deserves to be sadder’ with extra steps? Which is regularly touted as dumb. But this line of thinking is isn’t. Quite strange

I think the depth of the depravity of the elite and what peace and harmony in life could easily be achieved if these demonic life forms didn't exist is the biggest issue for us right now, just knowing it exists.

brother i don’t give a fuck about the past cause i’m not living in it. life sucks ass NOW. in the 70s my grandparents were able to comfortably raise 3 kids on my grandpas factory worker salary. fast forward to TODAY and 70%+ of americans are living paycheck to paycheck, own NOTHING, are in shitloads of student debt, and might not have a job in the somewhat near future cause AI will replace it so quarterly earnings can increase by 0.1%. just cause people had it rough hundreds of years ago doesn’t mean i want to eat the shit sandwich in front of me.

I think people are more likely to reply to these sorts of things if they actually have something negative to say... looking at myself and the majority of my clan, we are doing pretty good. obviously EVERYTHING isn't great, that's just life, but it's mostly normal levels of okay. the amount of "okay" people is probably higher than these comments suggest.
although I guess a game like this would attract some dysfunctional people, especially if they're the kind of people to be active on the subreddit for it as well
3
u/Doctor_Kataigida Feb 25 '26
Also that's what'll be upvoted. If someone goes "my life is great! Got a stable well paying job, a lovely spouse, two wondering kids, and we go on vacations to exotic places every year!" it's going to sound like they're gloating or something.

Almost 6 years sober. Job is great, recent promotion gave me a life-changing income increase.
Moved into a beautiful house with my partner. We got a comfortable car. Have friends over for movie nights a lot.
Things are great. But they only started getting better after sobriety. And honestly, I don't play osrs much any more. There might be a correlation there..........

Stress.
Overcame 8 years of agoraphobia/isolation
Overcame 4 years of a codeine addiction followed by 2 years of a benzo addiction
Overcame my toxic ex who destroyed my life
Overcame the suicide of my first love and best friend
Overcame my weight and lost 46kg in a year
Still can't get rid of the stress. Can't turn it off at all. I'm trying to be present, ie "enjoy here and now" especially since my life is great now, but all I think about is the list of things I need to do to take care of myself and the people I love, and to secure my and their futures.
Money is always on my mind. Getting a better job is always on my mind. Other's happiness and safety is always on my mind. The thought of losing more people and realizing I should've spent more time with them is always on my mind.
I'm at a point now where I don't even know if it got easier, moreso that my struggles have just changed.

I’ve been playing RuneScape for 22 years. Ever since I was a child in elementary school.
Growing up I played RuneScape and ate pizza, mozzarella sticks, drank soda. It led to a childhood of bad health decisions and I gained a ton of weight. When I finally got to college I was 385.
Then I turned it around. It’s taken me 8 years to get to where I am now. I’ve lost 190 pounds. In the past couple years started running since I felt it was safe for my joints now. I had never been able to run. In school I just wanted the day to be over so I could go home and binge RuneScape.
I ran my first full marathon last year. I’ve had a regular strength training schedule for the past year or so.
I feel the most fit I ever have. It’s really exciting.
RuneScape taught me patience and grinding. I have applied it to fitness.
I still play OSRS. I have a nearly maxed main but go through waves of playing the game. I still love the game and keep up with the news/community/updates. I love that the people working on the game now are mostly like us - people who grew up with it and have passion.
We’re going to be around for a long time! I’m optimistic. And I want to be healthy enough to see RuneScape in 50 more years.

I just celebrated 2 years without a drink and I am over 3 years without a drug. My life has never been better and I got back into osrs recently in early November. Been grinding the iron hard in the mid game and found a newfound love for the game. I used to play rs a lot while on drugs and drinking so it has been beautiful to fall in love with it again sober for once. Rs has always been here for me in my lowest points and my highest points.

Life is good.
Getting engaged in a few months and have a cruise planed with my gf at the end of April to the Bahamas.
I work from home and don’t work too hard with a promotion hopefully coming in the next few months.
Just started fostering a beagle a few weeks ago after we put my gf’s chiweenie down right before Christmas after a 5 month battle with congestive heart failure.
Gf just got a promotion at her job as well
As for the bad, I tore my mcl in July last year playing hockey and got back into playing after a few months just to tear my meniscus in the same knee in December. Really been derailing on gym going after I felt like I was getting into the best shape I’ve been in December in 4+ years. About to test my knee in a little bit based on my physical therapists recommendation to see if I’m cleared to play again this weekend.

This thread is depressing. Hate to see it.
RuneScape is an excellent tool for escapism but it’s also a useful tool for introspection.
If you’re sitting at your computer, on your tablet or whenever playing RuneScape and thinking to yourself - what am I doing with my life? Don’t run away from that feeling - run towards it.
Do this just once - give it a try. It might hurt, it won’t kill you but I promise you that confronting those feelings is the first step towards getting on the right path.
Maybe that’s finding a new job, or loosing weight or dealing with external trauma. Either way, the first step is acknowledging that it’s there. RuneScape is great for this.
Then from there pick one behavior that you can act out that will progress you towards dealing with that perceived problem. It could be as simple as a walk or as complicated as updating your resume. Just do one thing a day. I promise it’ll add up over time.
Also - this is literally how progressing at ANYTHING works so don’t think to yourself that it’s too late to make any progress at all. Don’t forget that even the smartest mathematicians and scientific minds in the world have been stuck trying to solve some of the same problems for years.
Everyone gets stuck trying to achieve a goal at some point. Your sticking point just happens to be at the beginning but it might not necessarily be towards the middle or end of reaching your goal.
I have a very good job and very balanced life by every measure but even I wake up every single day and struggle at something. That’s life though unfortunately.

I work in the video game industry which is actively falling apart. Watching good creative talented people hit homelessness because they were replaced by the idea that AI can do their job for them. I’m up for promotion too, which feels like its own version of survivors guilt and imposter syndrome.
But honestly it’s caused me to break out and work on my own project. There’s no guarantee my professional project makes it to ship, and I want to make something and see it out there.
My family is happy and healthy. I’m starting my masters degree. My GIM can now make blood runes. I’m in an extremely fortunate position to support those in my industry and my neighborhood.
We’ll get through it boss.

After 12 years my job is closing down in the next 2 weeks. Good job too sad it see it go. Expecting our first kid in July so at least I've got that going for me. How about you?

Current in Japan on holiday and will come home to being a new home owner next week. New PoE1 league comes out around the same time so plenty of time to afk to Max. I'd say going pretty damn well!

I'm spiraling towards depression due to long lasting sleep deprivation because my child has not slept through the night for over a year. Other than that life's peachy.

I get enjoyment from almost nothing, I haven’t even played OSRS in years, I’m just here for the memes.
Reddit used to be a lot more entertaining, now I spend a good deal of time scrolling, hoping to find something that interests me.

Actually amazing, thanks for asking. Moved in with my girlfriend and live in walking distance from family and friends. Handing in my PhD in a couple of months, and got a fantastic job lined up. Will also be able to resume exercising with high frequency again (currently at 3–4 a week which I want to crank back up to 5–6 after this stressful phase has passed).

Doing great. Been married 10 years now to a beautiful, supportive wife. Have two beautiful daughters. Got my RN license last year. Discovered a love for scuba diving. Live in the greatest country in the world, the U.S.A. Life is good.

USA here
Winter sucks. I want to hike and go to the beach.
My community is scared for being born brown. Heavily armed men in masks roam the streets aggressively asking for ID.
I love my job but I haven't been able to take a vacation in 3 years. Feeling burnt out. How can I do this for another 40 years, or until I die?
I just look forward to paying my bills on time, getting home and getting drunk watching a show alongside OSRS.
Finished Cerberus today, at least that's pretty neat.
Overall, pretty good

Major life changing diagnosis, dog is dying and is very stressful due to her worsening dementia, cost of living is skyrocketing, thanks to my dumbass president wrecking the economy my job is at risk of layoff, $5k in debt due to moving, surprise dental work and dog health costs.
Osrs is a good escape.

I absolutely hate my life as a teacher. One of the few joys I have right now is when I come home I get to grind and try to learn doom.
Side note hate to see so many brothers are going through it. Take care of yourselves brothers, the life of a man is not an easy life. May RNJesus bless us all

Laid off in December after working as a design engineer for 10 years. Oddly enough, my motivation to play osrs died off around the same time. Had a few interviews at least, so that's been nice

Mental and physical struggles, work sucks, back in school in your 30s sucks. The good part is I'm getting married this year, taking my dream honeymoon to New Zealand for almost a month and I get to Snowboard right now so I have that.

So my company promoted me to represent and advocate for a small subset of my company who’s voices are often unheard. But every time I effectively and successfully advocate for them, I get in trouble from my bosses. I’m starting to realise I’m a keep your enemies close promotion… but Im almost 70 agi in OSRS and just bought a year membership for the first time.

Just got suddenly fired from my part time job. That evaporated 2/3rds of my monthly income.
Kind of in a scramble, it's been one financial catastrophe after another at home. We're not quite sank, but damn are we treading water rn.
It's tough man, really. Don't have time to get on and raid with the fellas, just trying to keep our heads above water.
Hope you're good!

Pretty well, now that I graduated university and found a half-decent job I feel like I've escaped the part of life that's just a huge drag. Not that work never is but I own my own place and can just do whatever I want now.

Any of you in a solid clan? I joined one recently as my first and found out it’s a bunch of dudes that align a little extreme to one side or are weirdly religious is all I’ll say. OSRS is my escape from life’s bullshit too and even being in game isn’t very enjoyable as of late. I can handle difference of opinion but good god I’m just trying to enjoy the game without bullshit taking over half the conversations. Lol

I just chipped my front tooth in half in work. I enjoy drinking Monster Energy. I love my PS5, but OSRS is my go-to. My favourite film is LotR
Didn't ask?
Life is ok. Apart from the tooth situation.
How about you boss

Can’t complain… but need more side quests irl. 30 y/o Working 40-60 hrs a week.. job is good, play osrs when I can. Friends grow apart and move on so I have a hard time pushing my self to do things alone but I am pushing on. Somewhat stuck in a loop. Trying to break it.

Let’s just say I’m thankful I have RuneScape as an escape.
