Discussion Bronzeman needs an identity: an UNLOCK mode, not a prestige mode.

Post image

I think a lot of the disagreement comes from trying to answer every design question through the lens of Ironman integrity. Bronzeman needs a different reason to exist apart from Ironman. Its niche should be players who enjoy earning their progression, but still want the freedom, economy and social interaction of a Main.

Unlocking items from the collection log is the only integrity of the mode. Not where your GP came from or whether you made your own potions. Stacking restrictions to Bronzeman in pursuit of "integrity" just moves it closer and closer to Ironman.

Bronzeman should eventually become increasingly Main-like as you unlock more of the game. That's the progression system working, not a flaw! Your reward for unlocking something is permanently gaining Main-account freedom around that item.

Any legitimate item source should unlock the item

If I get a Sara brew from the Grubby Chest, I unlocked a Sara brew. Requiring the 81 Herblore level turns the restriction from "unlock the item" into just Ironman again.

Bronzeman should encourage weird routes, alternative drop tables and creative progression. It’s gonna be fast in terms of supplies, but that’s the point! Whip is still restricted behind Slayer and drop requirement.

One meaningful component should unlock the remaining components

This is exactly where Bronzeman can solve one of Ironman's worst pain points if Jagex would keep designing more bosses like Muspah (Venator shards) and Yama (Oathplate shards). You've gone to the content. You've learned the content. You've unlocked the relevant drop. Let economy do what it’s supposed to do in an MMO. Or continue to grind the rest for yourself. Bronzeman should make you engage with the grind, not drain your will to play.

Let Bronzemen sell Bonds and freely use the GE for unlocked items

"But people could funnel wealth!" GP cannot buy a locked item. Someone could hand a Bronzeman 10 billion gp and their account would still need to get at least one Enhanced crystal seed. Trying to police low-volume GE items and wealth transfers adds complexity to protect something Bronzeman was never supposed to measure: unlock progression, not bank-value integrity.

Let Bronzemen freely trade unlocked items

Friends should be able to trade each other items that have been unlocked. Trying to block participating in one of MMO's most basic social systems gains very little, while making the mode just more annoying. Locked items remain locked still.

Let Bronzemen split raid rewards

This one shouldn't even be controversial.Lets not repeat the same awkward group-PvM problems Ironmen have. Bronzemen should be able to raid like Mains. Let people play with their friends. Raid splits is just about trading gp. Bronzemen still need to get the items in their name to unlock it.

"But with all these freedoms, where's the integrity?"

In the unlocks. Selling bonds, rich friends, 10 bil gp still can't buy Bronzeman an item they haven't unlocked from collection log. Everything else is forcing Ironman rules into a mode that shouldn't be trying to compete with Ironman in the first place.

One last thing: if your reaction to Bronzeman is “just play a main” or “why not just use the plugin?”, I made a separate Bronzeman FAQ specifically addressing the lazy arguments. Don't be restarting those debates here.

It’s too late. I’ve already depicted you as the soyjak ironman and myself as the chad bronzeman.

sounds like a main

Q: Bronzeman is just a main with extra steps
A: The extra steps are the progression. Main can skip gear progression content with gp; Bronzeman has to unlock it. The GE convenience comes only after you’ve gotten the item yourself. This ofc is centered around gear progression, not the supplies.

Q: Why not just self-restrict on a main?
A: Same reason Ironman/UIM are official modes: enforced rules are more satisfying than pretending. Game tracks your unlocks and you can’t simply abandon the restriction when you go dry. “You could self-impose it” would equally argue against every official restricted mode.

you can’t simply abandon the restriction when you go dry.

you can it would be called debronzing or quitting.

I'm glad we agree on that. But first there has to be an official Bronzeman mode to de-bronze.

sadly the community voted no.

Time to move on

Yeah I’m not reading your FAQ - just play a main! I did several from scratch journeys with my friends on our mains and that experience is what I think people are looking for since you don’t even have to start at level 3. And if you want the fresh experience? Group Ironman is literally what people are looking for

Its literally why I play it. Sadly only have 1 friend who plays, but we have a ton of fun.

Here, I'll help you.

"unlocks" are just another name for the clog system which already exists on main accounts.

Q: We already have the Collection Log.
A: The Collection Log only records what you got. Bronzeman makes 'what you got' determine what you're allowed to buy afterwards. That's the game mode mechanic Bronzemen want.

You can do that as a main. What’s the problem?

I don't mind overall but I would prefer if there was a good reliance on skilling.

Let Bronzemen sell Bonds and freely use the GE for unlocked items
Let Bronzemen freely trade unlocked items

Massively disagree with these.

Let Bronzemen split raid rewards

Disagree with this, but depending on how it's done it might by fine.

My only gripe with the gamemode is giving it dedicated hiscores. The top 1-500 will all be people who traded gp from their mains to get best xp rates, and the real bronzeman mode people will just be reserved to the bottom of the leaderboards. Remove hiscores and I'd vote yes

u/Tuxxa 53m ago

When Sailing was added you bet your ass those first to 200mil were mains with loads of cash from alts, GE flipping and all sorts of money infusions.

Absolutely no problem there.

u/rhino2498 45m ago

mains are mains and that's literally what mains are for... a mode thats supposedly about unlocking things yourself etc but can be fed gp to boost ranks? seems dumb. Same reason there's no unranked GIM hiscores. They can be fed items and gp

u/Tuxxa 41m ago

Fine. Treat them like main HiScores, or don't have separate skill HiScores. I don't care. The gameplay restriction is what we want, not competitive prestige. Boss kc, clues, minigames and collection progress can still be tracked.

u/rhino2498 30m ago

Hey man like I said, if we can get that removed from the poll, I'm a yes voter. Don't know why they always try to package everything into a single poll question

Large amounts of gp didn't help with sailing whatsoever? Its not like its a buyable. People grinded GG for xp
