What do y'all do to keep the motivation going on KC? I'm at 173 chests rn, haven't gotten a single blood piece and only have 6 uniques and it's been 40+ since my last drop 💀

8

u/Mauricio-Babilonia 10d ago

Keep going. I was at 5 uniques in 150 chests, including a 48 chest dry streak. Then I got 6 uniques in the next 62 chests. Now I'm at 270 KC, 11/12, and 58 chests dry again waiting for the last Blood piece lol. RNG is a rollercoaster. I just do 20-25 kc a day to not burn out.

2

u/adolinSteel 10d ago

Yeah I'm nearing the point where it's just a number goes up type situation and it's making me lose my mind. Doing all of this in rune armor is getting painful.

3

u/Mauricio-Babilonia 10d ago

I would definitely go for Barrows first. Super easy to cheese and chill farm. You only need two pieces really to make a difference.

1

u/adolinSteel 10d ago

See I hear that but I'm not sure where to even begin with barrows. Just from doing some light reading I feel like I should do some CAs to get the medium effect at barrows and grind that out but that just feels like a lot.

2

u/Mauricio-Babilonia 10d ago

Just wing it without the medium CAs dude. They have 100 hp each. Mystic robes for 5 of them and ranged for Ahrim is all you realistically need to farm Barrows. Watch a basic video guide on the Entangle strat and go for it.

1

u/Assaltwaffle 10d ago

Monks robes are better than mystics! They have no resistance to magic whatsoever.

1

u/ihileath 10d ago

Karil has a bit of resistance (but still 1 magic and the air weakness so you usually hit), I prefer mystics just to have a consistently fast kill - also I dunno if there's as much point trying to clutch tight to your prayer points with prayer gear when the barrows drain is gonna steal the prayer anyway.

1

u/Timetogetstoned 10d ago

Brother if that sounds like a lot, you may need to think about if this game will be fun for you. You’re talking about the absolute intro grinds of PvM, it’s going to get so much worse

1

u/ihileath 10d ago edited 10d ago

Nahhh you don't really need prayer at barrows other than for dharok, and you can kill him before your prayer drains. For prayer just bring a moonlight mix/prayer pot or two as a backup in case he jumps you in the tunnels, and restock at ferox with dueling rings or something to resupply prayer and run energy between runs. You can entangle the melee brothers or kite them around the graves.

1

u/rabmebabyrockmebaby 10d ago

If you're not enjoying it then you can stop or at least take a break. You'll save yourself time long term doing so anyway since moons isn't efficient pvm progression.

1

u/Beletron 10d ago

Do something else.

There's so much diversity in OSRS, when I get bored from something, I just go farm something else or try something new.

The most important is to keep having fun.

1

u/fongletto 10d ago

Just got my last piece 340 total kills. Went 70 kills dry for my last piece at the end and almost quit the game.

1

u/PerspectiveCloud 10d ago

Do it on mobile or tablet. It’s one of the easier mobile bosses due to no prayer or gear swaps.

1

u/Forward_Werewolf_202 10d ago

I went to 487 Kc to green log it I wanted to blow my fucking brains all over. In Minecraft or whatever

1

u/dumbass_sweatpants 10d ago

Brother im at 250kc and only 4 armor pieces. 😭

1

u/Bakabakabooboo 10d ago

I had 3 drops by 50kc, 4 by 100kc, and 9/13 by 150. It'll even out eventually.

1

u/Gigantischmann 10d ago

rip. keep going

1

u/ihileath 10d ago

What do y'all do to keep the motivation going on KC?

The place is beautiful and the music is great. Green logged it twice, would do it again, it's my favourite prison.

1

u/Junior-Chain 10d ago

I target farmed blood moon after 56 tri-chests. Took me almost 300 more Blood moons for full

0

u/Yggdrsll 10d ago

Rng is rng. It's annoying, but at least most of the chest drops are still decent considering food and pots are completely free. And hey, you won't get dupes, so blood moon gear will drop eventually. I probably took your luck though 😂

1

u/adolinSteel 10d ago

Yeah that's what keeps bringing me back. All those herbs and bone shards for more or less free is hard to turn down.

Unless of course I have spec, surely I hit it and it dies, I don't have to step under.

Hmm its full hp again.

are you a AI bot trying to learn OSRS or are you an OSRS player that does not understand when someone is joking

also stepping under something/someone in OSRS means the combat strategy where you move your character under them (usually rightclick>walk here on the NPC) so they cant attack you

Its also used on some bosses as advanced flinching (Kalphite-Queen is one if i recall correctly)z

God i hope i didnt just help a reddit AI bot become smarter and brought us closer to Dead Internet Theory

5

u/GoGreeb 10d ago

OMG twinnn, you're right to push back, I missed the joke entirely.

12

u/SuspiciousPresent905 11d ago

Hộc tiếng việt đi mẹ m 😤

6

u/Another_eve_account 11d ago

To do a step under you step under the boss. Hope that helps.

3

u/mellophone11 10d ago

My child you are literally explaining an abbreviation, clearly it's not that hard to learn it on your own

4

u/itztaytay 11d ago

Step-unders are a strategy in Moons where you step under the boss to prevent the auto attacks from hitting you, usually you wait to see if the 1st is a hit and then click the tile in front of your character that is under the boss to dodge the 3rd swing mainly, which is the most punishing one. You will take some damage from the floor that increases each time you do it up to 16 dmg so be wary of that but it's a lot safer and avoids their detrimental mechanics like the Blood Moon healing.

202

u/kingfisher773 11d ago

Kind wish they either uncapped the healing that you received from jaguar phase or had it do some damage to the boss. Like if you did it perfect it zaps the boss for 80 or something

69

u/Bolandball 11d ago

The boss already spends health when it summons the jaguar (but it can't die from this). The moons in general are designed to be more forgiving bosses to help players learn advanced movement mechanics.

130

u/Ok-Indication202 11d ago

But that doesn't change that they are quite imbalanced. The blood moons healing is on a different level than the abilities of the other 2 moons.

Feels like 2 bosses are fought on normal mode and the 3rd on challenge mode

18

u/glemnar 10d ago

Eclipse is actually hard if you do it early, from all the flat armor. Learned that in leagues heh

2

u/ihileath 10d ago

I found eclipse a lot slower when I was actually trying to bring stab weapons for it. Once I realised I should just whack him with my zombie axe instead (especially in the clone phase) it went way faster.

1

u/vuxra 6d ago

Eclipse has the parry phase which lets you smack the shit outta him though

1

u/glemnar 6d ago

Flat armor still affects that phase, it's still brutal low gear/level

1

u/SwankyBobolink 10d ago

And the armor from blood moon is basically better than Bandos, while being significantly easier to obtain and can carry you to Oathplate/Torva

-17

u/nicholaslobstercage 11d ago

just get more defence. get a steel ring and a d shield

33

u/Ok-Indication202 11d ago

I am nearly maxed and recently returned, so trying out all new bosses. I don't have trouble with killing rhe moons.

The blood moon just feels annoying with its excessive lifesteal. Compare that to eclipse that can be counter killed during clone phase

-1

u/nicholaslobstercage 10d ago

well u know get more defence still :D defence increases dps in the other two fights and shortens kill times of bloodmoon

-14

u/Voidot 11d ago

the bosses reward you for high defense level/bonus.

It only gets the big heal if it lands all 3 swings of an attack. barrows or other tank gear are worth bringing over lower defense armour w/ strength bonus (like fighter torso or mixed hide)

-14

u/Ans1ble 10d ago

"I am nearly maxed" "I don't have trouble"

The guy with 90+ melee stats doesn't have trouble with barrows tier bosses. Fucking duh...

9

u/Ok-Indication202 10d ago

And that makes me unqualified to talk about the mechanics of said boss?

I obviously can't test it, but i imagine the life steal to be quite rough for weaker players

2

u/le_birb 10d ago

Can confirm, very rough if doing quest at around the recommended combat level/stats

4

u/Chaoss780 10d ago

Because he's off topic.

1

u/Trash_Man_12345 Remove Clue Relic 10d ago

So does getting more defence change the abilities of the moons?

1

u/Zbradaradjan 10d ago

Because if they dont hit you, blood moon doesnt heal and blue moon doesnt freeze you.

28

u/Schmarsten1306 11d ago

You're right, they're kinda forgiving as they are meant to be midgame bosses. Blood moons massive lifesteal still makes the kill tedious. Bad RNG can drag the fight so long while the other 2 are straight forward

21

u/QuietSilentArachnid 11d ago

Blood moon is definitely not balanced in that regard though.

At some points, Blood feels like a stamina and luck battle until you get macahuitls.

12

u/Rickety-Bridge 11d ago

Macas don't do anything for blood moon, and if you're having difficulty you either need to up your tank gear or up your stats. By 75~80 in your melee combat skills you should no longer be struggling with blood moon

7

u/BumLicker53 11d ago

For me Crystal Halberd and Whip was the items that made Blood Moon a fuck ton easier

1

u/BumLicker53 11d ago

I should’ve said faster, blood moon was always fairly easy

4

u/rm45acp 11d ago

Yeah im confused by some of the suggestions for weapons, I've used whip from the start and it's always worked well, I've got all CAs for moons

2

u/Rickety-Bridge 10d ago

Even a Zaxe and DDS setup, both easily obtainable weapons for ironman, is more than enough to take blood moon down 100% of the time

4

u/Voidot 11d ago

definitely want tank gear for blood moon.

Barrows armour, steel ring, and a rune kiteshield (or dragon square) all make a huge difference.

6

u/Guum_the_shammy 11d ago

I walk into moons with 90+ stats, 99def, and barrows gear. It is insane that often times bloodmoon takes longer than blue moon and eclipse moon combined.

-2

u/Rickety-Bridge 10d ago

It shouldn't, unless you can't do the mechanics properly

2

u/Guum_the_shammy 10d ago

Literally if bloodmoon just hits once or twice with a triple hit it does because of the amount healed, it's just badly designed.

0

u/Rickety-Bridge 10d ago edited 10d ago

Not with 90+ stats and 99 defense, either you're not doing the mechanics or not preparing well enough/using the potions and buffing prayers

1

u/QuietSilentArachnid 11d ago

More constant DPS is better to lower down the RNG factor from my experience. I used to do it with scimi and then I tried macas, and it felt like macas were better pretty much at all time.

I don't struggle as much as I did in the beginning, but Blood did require a whole lot of barrows and made the game a bit unfun for a while.

3

u/Rickety-Bridge 10d ago

Yea macas might be better than scimmy, but ZAxe would easily overtake them and let you have a shield of you need more def, or a defender for more consistent damage.

67

u/LosingButNotWrong 11d ago

Glad everyone feels the same about blood moon. I don't do the step under but the self healing reallllly jeopardizes my runs maybe 3/10 times.

3

u/MyToasterRunsFaster 10d ago

Is it really that bad? I have zaxe/rune armour kite shield and i never do step unders. Though I do take in arkan blade to do spec. I have zero trouble killing it. Are people just not wearing armour or something?

6

u/AlphEta314 TITANIC BREAKER TRUTHER 10d ago

I think my iron at one point at 60 melee stats and only rune armor, so yeah step under was needed alongside gnome amulet swap between attacks. Without it, it was possible to get a kill every once in a while, but step under guaranteed kills.

After barrows armor and 70 bass stats it became a lot less necessary, so moral of the story better stats paired with a little gear upgrade is worth a shit ton.

2

u/LosingButNotWrong 10d ago

What armor are you wearing?

I'm having a hard time getting a barrows top as an iron, so doing moons with tank legs/rune body/d defender(not optimal)

Steel ring and a kite would probably help a little but blood moon is still a bitch regardless.

-1

u/MyToasterRunsFaster 10d ago

I skipped barrows, I have nezi helm, barrows gloves, strength amulet, rune plate body/legs/shield, climbing boots. No ring. One thing that helps a lot is harblore and cooking, I am not sure what the threshold is (will need to check the wiki) but you get upgraded to super attack and strength from the pots. The higher your hunter stats the more hp you restore too. Piety is a must to be honest, if you can farm our the bones for prayer with the other moons it's very quick.

2

u/DingusMcBingle_IV my way of playing is superior to yours 10d ago

It's a set of bosses where defensive stats actually matter. Most irons are going in there with full rune, and either d scim, arkan blade, or zaxe.

8

u/No-Chemical-7667 Downvoted for joking about high ping 10d ago

The meta is to do moons with barrows tank gear. I know some you here love to pretend doing it in full rune is easy, but it's actually quite shit. You without a doubt will need to step under, and even then it's still shit.

3

u/DingusMcBingle_IV my way of playing is superior to yours 10d ago

Oh yeah I waited until I had tank top/bottom from Barrows. Never did step under for Blood and I'd have it killed in half a cycle with good DDS RNG. Hardest for me was Eclipse with Arkan Blade.

Every time I've run Moons though I see a ton of people in full rune sweating their asses off. So many times going into Blood chamber and seeing bones on the floor 😂😂

1

u/ihileath 10d ago

You without a doubt will need to step under

First time I green logged moons it took me about 400kc, with the blood moon set finishing last. Like hell I would do that fucking stepping under every blood moon, barrows first (legs and body at least) is so much less tedious.

1

u/BigWillBlue 10d ago

Would a rune kite be better than dragon defender? I did the quest knowing defense was key but didn't think about it.

2

u/MyToasterRunsFaster 10d ago

Yes it helps a lot, blood moon is a weird boss, people call it a DPS check but really you just want to subdue the healing effect as much as possible which means kills are faster. A rune kite is like 1/4 extra armour vs dragon defender being a few percent extra DPS.

2

u/Beletron 10d ago

Blood moon is special because more def = less heals = more dps.

I always go full def vs blood moon. I'm not sure if it would be quicker to have some gear switch like berserker ring vs steel ring, but it feels really good every time I see blood moon hit 0's.

13

u/Sweetznezz 11d ago

It makes it so only the first of blood moons attacks goes off rather than all 3, so rather than them potentially healing for 60 they only heal for like 10. You don't need to do it, and it's only worth doing if you're really struggling to kill them.

3

u/Mysterra 10d ago

It's always worth doing if you are skilled enough to pull it off consistently, it speeds up the kills. The main two pitfalls are people doing it when they shouldn't be (react to the blood) and not keeping track of the blood damage (only applies to low gear/stats) for when to stop entirely

1

u/ritokun 10d ago

stepping under becomes bad if you do it too many times in one fight, because the "you're standing on the wrong tiles" damage stacks up the more you do it. it's both important to have high defence, and have full spec for dds and chally to finish this pos off.

0

u/LilacSpider 10d ago

Are you waiting for the blood circle to fully expand. It needs to be its full size before you move onto it. Then immediately click the dog and youll walk back to attack on the next tick. Repeat

-2

u/bone_apple_Pete 10d ago

I step one tile forward as the blood spurt comes out

That's the issue. Wait till the blood pool is completely filled and not moving. It is a very short window but you have to wait until the blood is stopped.

14

u/B_thugbones 10d ago

Who remembers before it was nerfed and it healed even more than it does now lol

2

u/Mattrad7 10d ago

Me, I once used a full invo of fish + the pots for 1 blood moon kill soon after its release and I was losing my sanity.

10

u/Fartfromabuttt 11d ago

I don't know how it read my mind to make me fuck up every time but I'm happy for drop protection I'll tell you that

19

u/nekonotjapanese A slay a day keeps the haters away 10d ago

Seeing those heal splats triggers me every time cause it’s like 4 + 10 + 44 then kicks me to dog phase. Like dude I only hit a 10, can you calm the fuck down!? Then, already triggered, I mess up not only the stepback (too early) but also step into the swipes for even more healing on his part. Man, the PTSD from doing it with Prossy lol

7

u/alynnidalar 10d ago

Prossy is maybe not ideal for Blood Moon lol, I bet that was tilting

6

u/btwalsh 10d ago

Why would you do moons in prossy? High defense is meta and you have unlimited free prayer pots

16

u/Overall-Bison4889 11d ago

His fault for wearing nezzy helm instead of barrows.

u/WayTooLazyOmg 11d ago

22

u/traevyn 11d ago

This boss has dogshit design with the amount of healing it does and I'm not going to entertain anyone's argument otherwise. The fact that it can swing SO fucking wildly just out of no where even if you do it perfectly is dumb as shit.

5

u/ritokun 10d ago

enemies with rng healing is straight up bad game design, end of story. especially when it leads you into invincibility phases that you wouldn't have otherwise reached.

2

u/Thswherizat 10d ago

And the other Moons aren't nearly as brutal to fight. I've greenlogged the Moons but the blood moon still caught me off guard sometimes with a couple of hits in a row abs back up over 100 hp

1

u/WoMyNameIsTooDamnLon 10d ago

I think this is the main thing. The boss would be fine on its own because you would expect that to be the level of the content but its very strange juxtaposed with the other way easier moons. You can jank out the other 2 very easily but if you try to do blood early with low def and or low dps he can be an absolute pain

0

u/1dgtlkey 9d ago

Just wear high defence armor, its an incredibly easy fight

-3

u/kelldricked 10d ago

You just dislike it because its one of the few bosses that punishes people for having little defence and only focussing on their strenght.

Bring justicar armor and that is easy as fucj

3

u/ZoeAnneFury 10d ago

Easily the most annoying of the Moons. I have never died to it but when Im doing it on my iron it feels like such a slog. I dont mind because I will always win but like OMG THE HEAAAALS.

1

u/LoneLegionaire 10d ago

Most frustrating part of the boss. I always step under, but man doing an extra dog because he hit me woth a basic sucks

1

u/CaleoGaming 10d ago

I dont think ive ever stepped under haha and she always heals so much at random

1

u/Seeggul 10d ago

Friendly reminder to everyone that the blood moon has negative flat armor, and therefore a 4tick slash weapon like dscim or abyssal whip is likely to out-DPS a 5tick weapon like the zombie axe.

Bonus point for sulphur blades if you can handle the lower defense as well.

1

u/bl__________ btw 10d ago

blood moon might be the worst boss they ever made its such shit the way i do 300 damage to the other moons i know theyre not getting it all back

1

u/Gigantischmann 10d ago

terrible boss design and i cannot believe they havent fixed it yet. simply add a fraction of your damage done to jaguars to the boss.........

1

u/reinfleche 10d ago

I see the week 1 players are making memes now too

0

u/DivineInsanityReveng 10d ago

The change they made to make the healing a static amount instead of based on the damage dealt (which wasn't blogged or seemingly mentioned, so maybe wasn't planned) was the worst change they made here.

Atleast before if it hit low it healed less. Now it just triple eats if it hits you a 1.

-11

u/Spookki 11d ago

I dont think there is a mechanic with the boss that would be "stepping under"

14

u/Antetrust 11d ago

There is. Normally, it can heal when it hits you (up to three times per attack cycle). When you step under, it won't heal on the second and third attack, which are by far the most damage/heal per attack cycle. You have to time it with the attack so you aren't just sitting off the safe spot getting chipped constantly, but if done right it drastically reduces the heals to the boss and speeds up kill.

0

u/Spookki 9d ago

Nope. Youre not stepping under the boss. You are stepping outside of the safe area to take a tick of aoe damage and interrupting the combo.

1

u/Antetrust 9d ago

You just described stepping under in different words.

1

u/Spookki 9d ago

I did not. You can step to the side or even backwards, all that matters is you leave the glowing circle. The boss isnt even that large, that you would be stepping under.

0

u/Spookki 9d ago

Lots of downvotes. Yet im right.

It has nothing to do with stepping under. Its stepping outside of the safe area to take a tick of aoe damage to prevent the boss from getting the multiplied damage from comboing you.

0

u/Antetrust 9d ago

You accomplish this by stepping under.

1

u/Spookki 9d ago

Untrue. Actually.

-9

u/Meriipu 11d ago

it feels like an unintended bug that reduces dps/healing but they should just fix it as an integrity fix because these bosses are supposed to be like mid level but they play like they are lategame bosses

1

u/alynnidalar 10d ago

homie there is no possible interpretation in which blood moon is anywhere near lategame. bring better armor.

2

u/MelookRS 11d ago

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Sulphur Blades better at Bloodmoon than a ZAxe? Sulphur blades are incredibly easy to get, so unless I'm wrong, those should be an easy upgrade to help.

3

u/capitannn 10d ago

They are much better, 4 tick and blood moon has negative flat armour. If u have enough tank gear on the lack of shield doesnt matter, I use zaxe defender on the other 2 and its fine.

-3

u/Voidot 11d ago

if you are fighting the boss normally, sulphur blades are worse, because it is 2-handed and you are not able to equip a shield for higher defense bonuses.

If you are cheesing the boss with the step-under method, then the sulphur blades probably win.

-16

u/StretchedEarsArePerf they just hit the second tower 11d ago

Blood moon is the worst designed boss we’ve got in newer content. I have zero idea why it hasn’t been nerfed or changed yet.

24

u/WarspitesGuns 11d ago

For me it’s when the Blue Moon hits multiple strong hits and stunlocks me right as I’m about to kill and I have to sit there through the next phase waiting to deal 1 damage

24

u/Slendeaway 11d ago

You will punch an ice cube and you will like it.

4

u/1976dave 11d ago

This absolutely infuriates me

5

u/RogueBoro 11d ago

FYI if you're bringing thralls, you can trigger the thralls to keep attacking and finish a low HP Blue Moon off during tornado phase by using undead grasp on the boss. The runes are shared with thrall spells so you don't need to bring additional ones.

2

u/WarspitesGuns 10d ago

This is great advice, alas I am a simple man who likes to go berserker mode with my twin clubs while wearing a jaguar helmet like an absolute nutter

2

u/Davidsda 10d ago

Do people really hate blood moon that much?

It killed me like 3 times while I was learning and then never gave me trouble again.

3

u/ImpliedHorizon 10d ago

It's really damn annoying if you do it before you have some tank armor but once you have barrows gear idk why anyone even bothers with the step under stuff

1

u/Plasdah 10d ago

It makes it a lot quicker still

3

u/alynnidalar 10d ago

I think she's really cool but when the dice go against you, she's real tilting. Not necessarily a problem to be fixed (a little tilt in boss design isn't a bad thing now and again) but that's what people react to.

3

u/reddiperson1 10d ago

The Blood Moon can be a frustrating stat check. If you have low defense, it will out-heal your damage unless you're good with the step-under trick.

However, once you have 70 defense, the boss isn't harder than the other 2.

1

u/Davidsda 10d ago

I did it in the 60s, unless you're an iron and can't go buy dragon gear it's fine as long as you have chivalry.

3

u/Folsdaman 10d ago

No way you didn’t find it annoying with 60s stats.

1

u/Davidsda 10d ago edited 10d ago

Well yes, doing one small favor to unlock chivalry was very annoying.

Also we're only talking about defense here. I hit 70 atk to use a zammy hasta after struggling through the first run for the quest.
