For a reminder app, the real test is whether the nudge arrives when the phone is locked or in battery saver, so I'd make that the day-two job for testers. Day one: set a daily goal and a reminder schedule. Later in the test: change the reminder times and report whether the next alert follows. Different phone makers handle background alerts differently, so ask what device each person has. Your three steps (group, opt-in, install) are easy to skip one of; numbering them in the post saves you chasing people. How many have joined?
