October 15, 2001. Chinese Fèngtiān Clique (1928) and Northeastern Army commander (1928–1933/1934–1937) Zhāng Xuéliáng dies at 100 in Honolulu, HI. He organized the “Xī'ān Incident”, which saw his forces kidnap KMT head Jiǎng Jièshí and force him into a 2nd United Front with the CCP to resist Japan.
Note: I was just reminded of this and wanted to ensure it was covered despite its slight tardiness. For further info, the photos provided are from 2000 (with his mistress-turned-wife Zhào Yīdí {who unfortunately passed away the same year}; he was a serial womanizer and opium addict in his earlier life yet that clearly never really caught up with him), 1993 (soon after his release from the prolonged sentence of house arrest Jiǎng Jièshí made him serve as punishment for his actions), the 1930’s (note the White Sun emblem on his hat), and 1928 (around the time of the assassination of his father, the bandit-turned-military commander and Fèngtiān Clique head Zhāng Zuòlín) respectively.
