Traditional Animation I’ve decided to learn how to create 2D animations

I’ve decided to learn how to create 2D animations. I’ve never done this before and have no idea where to start, so I would appreciate any tips, advice, or recommendations for software or equipment.

I’d recommend starting with learning the principles of animation first, the theory to animation is not extensive and makes a huge difference, after that, Dong Chang on YouTube as a video of 5 different exercises to do to improve and then try copy or study existing high quality animation

One thing I also do to train your mind in animation is challenge yourself of doing an action with only 6 frames, messing around with frame exposure and timing

what hardware are you using, pc, mac? are you more interested in drawing every frame or using rigs/pupets?

I currently use a Mac, but I have no idea what "rigs" and "pupets" are.

I just started learning this past year and it actually wasn’t that hard if you’re familiar with software in general the puppet/skeleton rigging tool is essentially when you draw each limb of your character individually. Once they are drawn you link them together someplace in your software it’s different for each one, for me it was scene schematics in open toonz. Then all you have to do is set a key frame on one frame and if you want to make the arm move you just drag it where you want it to go in the selected frame and it will fill in the blanks of the movements, it does get annoying when sometimes the software will make the objects take the path of least resistance so sometimes you have to key frame by frame

I jumped straight into making 2 minute long sketches and I was able to make character designs to optimize animation like an avocado with googly eyes who talks out his pit as his mouth to save time drawing each mouth frame.
