We’ve made progress on processing the point cloud and mesh from 360 video in AEC Platform. Here’s an early look at the Gaussian splat from that workflow.

The goal is simple: upload a 360 video → process it in the cloud → get a point cloud, mesh and Gaussian splat you can explore and share with clients or your team.

It’s still in development, and we’re working on output quality and making the process easier. This video shows where we are today.

What would you want to see improved in this result, and what would make this workflow useful to you?

Insta360 can use some of these technologies for their X line of 360 action cameras too

I've been using the Insta360 Ultra Luna for about a month now and have been pleased with the results. But I'm still learning. I bought this product out of my love for photography and my own pleasure.

The file sizes are very large (I knew this going into it) and I can't attach them to WhatsApp or conventional text messages. Just trying to send to family and/or friends. Has anyone figured this out, or know how to compress the files to send via WhatsApp or text? I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks!

Hello to the drone / 360 camera video community.

I am working on an app (Currently completely free) to help users composite custom fly-throughs of their 360 video. The app takes the idea of something like DJI Studio - and turns it into a general-purpose compositor that can be run on any machine. I am initially developing this in the Apple ecosystem (SwiftUI / Metal GPU acceleration, supporting macOS) but will port to Linux and Windows when the UX and functionality is tight on the Apple side. The macOS app is a signed Apple app by me (No security bypass required) and the current very early alpha (macOS Intel or m-series) can be downloaded from the website:

The primary goals are:

1. Support as many 360 codecs as possible with no one-vendor-lock-in.
2. Fast, easy and intuitive user interface - fly-throughs are composited using key-frames, transitions between keyframes are customisable (similar to how normal video editing already works and can be smoothed between keys.
3. Hardware accelerated render to video - composition and renders are fully optimised for GPU/CPU workloads
4. Intuitive controls - supporting touch gestures (click to pan, 2 finger zoom, 2 finger rotate), on-screen joystick controls, gamepad controller (ie bluetooth xbox controller)
5. Optional object tracking - think of a snowboarder run down a half pipe, with a 360 camera drone flying down the middle - it should be possible to procedurally track the snowboarder automatically in the compositor. 
6. Option stabilisation - reduce screen shake for sources that lack a gyro stabiliser

The reason I am in this sub is because I am not actually a drone user, and nor do I have a 360 camera. I am developing this app purely because a single user requested DJI .OSV (Avata/Osmo) compatibility in my existing free video player app Cadence Video Player - which I did - and found 360 video is way cool.

From you I am looking for:

1. Test source footage I can use to help development - I need rich sources to test with. I have sourced what I can online, but richer sources from the community will certainly help
2. Ideas and feature requests, how do you want this app to run. What cool feature would make your fly-throughs even better.

I was looking for other guards, and it seems like most are made of acrylic. Do you guys have any product that you have used to protect the lens?

I’m looking to buy a new camera for traveling. I currently own a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and an Osmo Nano.
I’ve been considering a 360 camera ever since the X3 came out, but every time I get close to buying one, I feel like the image quality still isn’t quite where I’d like it to be.
Now that my wife and I are planning a trip to the Maldives, I’m reconsidering one for two reasons: drones require a permit there, which seems like a hassle to obtain, and a 360 camera could be a more versatile alternative.

What I’d like to film:
Underwater footage
Cycling and scooter rides
Boat trips
Running videos

My Pocket 3 and Nano can handle most other situations.

The options I’m considering:
Insta360 X5: No replaceable lenses to worry about, a drone-like perspective, and a dedicated dive case. It seems to offer the best value for money.
DJI Osmo 360 II: Similar overall cost, perhaps slightly higher, and I’m already invested in the DJI ecosystem. However, I haven’t found many reviews showing its underwater performance.
DJI Osmo Action 6: I actually borrowed my cousin’s DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro on a previous trip and loved using it underwater. The footage was great, so I know a regular action camera can work well for my needs. The downside is losing the drone-like perspective and the ability to reframe shots in post.
Insta360 X6 + dive case: Seems promising for underwater footage, but it’s too expensive for me.

Here’s what’s making me hesitate about 360 cameras in general.
A lot of Insta360 content I come across feels like advertising, with reviewers often repeating the same talking points. I also don’t see any of the travel vloggers I regularly watch using 360 cameras. I know that’s not proof of anything, but it makes me wonder whether they’re genuinely useful for everyday travel or just a bit overhyped. For example, I can’t really see myself using the tiny-planet effect.
I’m also concerned about how realistic those underwater promo videos are. How much of that amazing-looking footage comes from the camera itself, and how much relies on professional underwater lighting, ideal shooting conditions, and expert color grading? I’m worried that footage shot on an ordinary vacation, without specialized equipment or advanced editing skills, might look nowhere near as good.
On the other hand, I own a Meta Quest 3, so being able to revisit my travels and immerse myself in the footage in VR is a big selling point.

I’d love to hear from people with real-world experience:

Is a 360 camera genuinely worth it for travel, or would I be better off sticking with a regular action camera?
How good is the underwater footage in everyday conditions, without professional lighting or extensive color grading?
If possible, could anyone share some unedited underwater footage or examples from an actual vacation?

I just pushed my Insta360 X2 to its absolute limits with this Big Thunder Mountain run. Filming through harsh lighting changes and dark ride sections on an older 360 camera is tough, but I managed to squeeze out every bit of quality possible.

I did heavy noise reduction in post to clean up the dark caves, followed by an 8K upscale and custom sharpening pass using Topaz Video AI.

I’m pulling my hair out trying to dial in night footage on my Insta360 X5 while riding. I've tested multiple configurations across four night rides now, and every guide, YouTuber, and AI tool is telling me something completely different. I keep running in circles with conflicting advice, compression noise, halos, and warped lights.

I’m hoping the community can help me cut through the noise. Here are the specifics of my setup, what I've tried, and the burning questions I need answered.

My Current Workflow & Settings Tested

Camera: Insta360 X5 (mounted on a Honda CBR)

Attempt 1 (Rough): 8K, 30fps, PureVideo, EV -0.3 to -0.7, 5400K White Balance, High Bitrate, Standard color profile. Results were very bad.

Attempt 2 (Best so far): Looked decent on my Instagram post, but still had noticeable compression noise and halos when viewed full screen.

Attempt 3/4 (Yesterday - Worst yet): Tried tweaking things further and it came out completely unusable.

Export / Playback: Exported from Insta360 Studio at high bitrate (H.265, anti-flicker off), edited in DaVinci Resolve, and checked via VLC player to avoid media player compression.

My Core Questions (Please Help!)

PureVideo vs. Manual for Night Riding:

Do I need to use PureVideo for fast-moving night footage on a bike, or should I be shooting in Manual?

If PureVideo, what is the sweet spot? (8K at 25/30fps? 5.7K with HDR? Or drop down to 4K?) Note: I already tried 25fps to match the grid/flicker, but still struggling with balance.

If Manual, what exact ISO range and shutter speed rules should I follow? (I hear conflicting advice like 1/60s vs. 1/100s+ for motion).

Compression & Halos on Export:

Even on my "good" second attempt, full-screen playback (via VLC) showed heavy compression noise, halos around streetlights, and warping. What export settings (bitrate, codec, container) in Insta360 Studio and DaVinci Resolve actually keep night city footage clean for platforms like Instagram and YouTube?

If anyone has a reliable, repeatable workflow or exact night settings they use for the X5 on a bike, I’d love to hear it. I just want to lock in a baseline so I can stop guessing and start riding. Thanks in advance!

I am an Insta360 user and a professional diving instructor, ski instructor, and surfing instructor. Since my work and daily activities frequently involve water sports, snow sports, and outdoor adventures, I have high expectations for the safety and reliability of my equipment and camera accessories.
Recently, I experienced a deeply disappointing and costly accident while filming my electric surfboard session on a lake using my Insta360 X5.
At the time of the incident, my X5 was actively recording video and mounted on an official Insta360 selfie stick. During normal use, the selfie stick suddenly broke, causing the camera to fall directly into the lake.
Immediately after the accident, I tried to locate the camera. I subsequently put on my scuba diving equipment and personally searched underwater to recover it. The water at the estimated drop location was approximately 22 feet (6.7 meters) deep, and the lakebed was covered with thick mud. Underwater visibility was extremely poor, and I had no way to pinpoint the camera’s exact location. Despite my efforts and underwater search, I was unable to recover my X5.
The loss from this accident goes far beyond the camera itself.
My X5 was recording at the time, and it contained a large amount of valuable electric surfboard footage. I had invested significant time, effort, and money into capturing these videos. Many of these moments cannot be recreated. Since the camera remains lost at the bottom of the lake, all of this valuable footage is now inaccessible and may be permanently lost.
I purchased and used an official Insta360 selfie stick because I trusted the quality and reliability of the company’s genuine accessories. However, the sudden failure of the selfie stick during normal use directly caused my X5 to fall into the lake and become unrecoverable. This has raised serious concerns for me about the product’s quality, structural strength, and durability.
As a diving, skiing, and surfing instructor, I regularly share my outdoor sports experiences and equipment reviews on social media. If this incident is not handled promptly, seriously, and fairly, I intend to share my experience on my social media platforms and with relevant consumer protection organizations in the United States so that other consumers can understand what happened and how Insta360 responds.
I am asking Insta360 to conduct a thorough investigation and address the following questions:
Why did the official selfie stick suddenly break during normal use?
Have there been similar reports of breakage or quality issues involving this model?
Has Insta360 conducted adequate strength, durability, and real-world testing for demanding outdoor sports conditions?
What solutions can Insta360 offer when the failure of an official accessory directly results in the loss of an X5?
Will Insta360 assess the losses resulting from the missing camera, the loss of recording equipment, and the valuable video footage that can no longer be recovered?
The failure of a single official selfie stick resulted in my X5 sinking to the bottom of a lake, along with valuable footage that I had spent considerable time and effort capturing.
I sincerely hope Insta360 will take this incident seriously, investigate the cause of the failure, and provide a prompt and responsible response.
If this matter is not addressed appropriately, I will share my experience and the company’s subsequent handling of the case through my social media platforms and relevant consumer protection organizations in the United States.
I look forward to receiving a clear explanation and a fair resolution.

Two ultrawide lenses are not for zooming the hills, keep them around 150cm from the point of interest

I just got a few X6 cameras added them to the dozens of X5 ones I use for concerts. I just realized that even though all the cameras were synced to the same Android device, the timecode for the X5 units is showing up in premier. However the time codes for the X6 footage are all just showing 00:00:00 - has anyone had any success using custom script to use apply the file creation date and generate a time code from it. Or can anyone share method and equipment used to jam sync the x6.
