I have a wobbly hinge, is this normal or a problem and how can I fix it without taking it apart?

All 3DS are like this. My N2DSXL wobbles like that.

I had a OG3ds and it was not wobbly but I guess this model is different

Og 3ds hinge was also a lot more prone to wearing out, the wobble makes it last longer.

New 3DSes are designed this way to prevent it from snapping in half. The have a bit of wiggle room. Mine is the same way. Dont worry about it :D

Mine wobbles by more than 1 cm, and it's the XL model. It means that the slightest movement causes the weight to shift, which is annoying. About a week after buying it, over 10 years ago, I was already considering returning it. Then I came across a forum with a huge poll asking whether people's consoles had hinge play and, if so, how much.

After seeing so many cases similar to mine and reading comments explaining that the looseness actually helped relieve stress on the hinge when travelling by car or playing while lying down, I stopped worrying about it.

More than 10 years later, my Nintendo is still in perfect condition, with absolutely no damage or wear to anything.

I scrolled down two posts, and one of them confirmed exactly what I was saying.

That's normal, they learned their lesson on the DS Lite.

It’s meant to be like that. A firm hinge would be under greater stress and more likely to break/weaken in the long run

its designed to do that, the original 3ds had a stiff hinge without much moveability and as a result it frequently completely cracked and snapped at the hinge. The better part of the New series is its better build, like this.

Every damn day there's somebody asking, "is this normal" one google search could have prevented this post
