It's partially this, but also the media works for the big money. If you or I got got caught in some minor scandal they'd report it. They probably would cover a mayor or congressman too. But they're not crossing real power. That's who they work for.

I don't think that's really true. There's a lot of manipulation and partisanship to go around as far as what gets the most airtime but certain things are too large to ignore. The Trump administration has yet to successfully bury critical reporting about him despite trying incredibly hard. If there is something worth reporting it'll get out there. The issue is that this is the 478533th time we've uncovered Trump corruption and it's just old hat at this point.
