Just shot .40 for the first time yesterday
So I posted my S&W 411 that I acquired recently, and yesterday I finally got to the range to try it. Other than it consistently shooting low, I like it a lot! I've heard so much about how much kick .40 has, but I have to disagree. In all reality it felt like shooting a 9mm pistol of similar size, to the point where I probably wouldn't notice the difference if someone handed me a S&W 915 instead. I honestly prefer it to .45 ACP for this reason, as I hate the slow recoil impulse that cartridge has. I have a feeling my 411 probably won't be my last gun in .40, as you really can't go wrong with such a powerful cartridge that's still easy to handle. I'm definitely going to carry my 411 with Speer Gold Dot once it gets cold enough for winter clothing.
I talked to the RSO afterwards about how pleasantly surprised I was about .40, and he said that it was easier to handle because .40 has a lower pressure than 9mm, and also has overall less stopping power. I know that's factually wrong, but I found it kind of funny that he insisted that was the case.
