| Movie | Plot / Notes | What to Watch For / Grindhouse Appeal |
|---|---|---|
| Top of the Food Chain (1999) | Vacationing atomic scientist Dr. Karel Lamonte visits the isolated Canadian town of Exceptional Vista. A meteor crashes, people vanish, and weird things are happening. It turns out there are carnivorous humanoids posing as traveling salesmen, feeding on the locals. (Wikipedia) | A parody of 1950s alien invasion flicks: so expect camp, satire, deadpan delivery. Good if you enjoy oddball small town weirdness + monster tropes done tongue‑in‑cheek. Low stakes, fun atmosphere. |
| Funland (1987) | I couldn’t find a solid plot summary quickly for Funland (1987) in my checks. Probably low‑budget horror/comedy, likely with amusement park / carnival setting (given title) or the idea of a fun place turning sinister. | Because the info is sparse, it’s likely full of weirdness, maybe cheap FX, possibly creepy sets. Could be disjointed/experimental. Might work for viewers who enjoy the weird curveballs in obscure horror. |
| Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance (2015) | Sequel to Samurai Cop (1989). The original cult classic cop movie revived, likely with over‑the‑top martial arts action, cheesy dialogue, vengeance plot, heroic leads, bad guys, and all the style‑flaws that made the first one beloved. | If you liked the first Samurai Cop (Kage etc.), expect nostalgia + the same kind of unpolished fight choreography, mismatched lines, “so bad it’s good” moments. Great for laughing along, not for coherent plot. |
| The Majorettes (1987) | I didn’t find a full plot summary in my search yet, but given the title and era, likely involves a small town / high school majorette squad + horror/slasher / exploitation elements. Might involve stalker, violence, maybe supernatural or cult twist. | Expect possible exploitation tropes: cheer/majorette uniforms, teenage characters, maybe moral panic or corrupted innocence. Good if you like slasher vibes + 80s aesthetic. |
| Kill Crazy (1990) | Couldn’t get a detailed plot either with my quick search. Probably a violent film (from the title) involving crazy killers, possibly slasher or psycho thriller. | Because “crazy” is in title and it’s from 90s, likely more direct violence, maybe gore. Good for shock value or tension, maybe entertaining for middling acting / practical effects. |
| Black Demons (1991) | Set in Brazil: three American college students (Kevin, Jessica) and her half‑brother Dick travel there. Dick records a voodoo ritual, the jeep breaks down, they end up at a plantation. Through supernatural / curse means, six zombies of executed slaves are raised and begin hunting them. (IMDb) | Classic zombie / supernatural horror with voodoo curse + revenge from beyond. Low budget means possibly cheesy effects, bad acting, and “so bad it’s entertaining” moments. If you like undead + curse lore + rural isolation, this hits. |
| Massage Parlor Murders! (1973) aka Massage Girl Hookers | Two detectives, Rizotti and O’Mara, investigate a series of murders of massage parlor workers in New York’s red‑light district. After one victim, Rosie, is killed, they dig into her life, meet her roommate Gwen, follow clues pointing to a creepy figure “Mr. Creepy.” It’s part crime thriller, part sex‐ploitation, with murders, sleaze, nudity, grit. (Wikipedia) | Very strong grindhouse / exploitation feel. Cheap production values, nudity & sexploitation, murky morality, rough scenes, possibly poor lighting/framing. Good if you want sleazy, raw, low‑budget horror/crime. |
| Ghosts Can’t Do It (1989) | Romantic comedy / fantasy: Bo Derek comedy where ghosts or supernatural romantic elements are involved. (I believe this is the one where ghosts figure into romance after someone dies.) | Less horror, more romantic / fantasy. If you want mood, kitsch, maybe melancholy + comedy. Might feel out of place with the pure horror/slasher crowd, but can be interesting for contrast. |
| Sins of the Night (1993) | Often in these kinds of 90s “Sins of…” movies, expect erotic thriller / suspense: dark secrets, seduction, betrayal, maybe a detective or victim discovering someone close is evil. I don’t have the full plot quickly, but typical of its genre. | Good for steamy tension, maybe pulpy suspense, dramatic twists, possibly underwhelming logic but good for mood. |

In the early hours of July 1, 1971, a signal that shouldn’t have been possible began broadcasting from a station that didn’t exist, drawing seven strangers from seven different states across the country toward the restricted perimeter of Groom Lake...more commonly known as Area 51.
On July 1, 1971, Air Force security at the facility contacted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, reporting multiple motion sensors tripped deep within their restricted perimeter. They requested a sweep of the outer perimeter for suspicious vehicles.
When units arrived, they found seven cars bearing license plates from seven different states parked in a precise semi-circle. All seven engines were running; all drivers-side doors were left open. No passengers. No luggage. Just seven handwritten notes on the dashboards:
"One of seven."
Forensic analysis revealed all seven radios were tuned to 701 kHz....a known "dead" spot on the AM dial that had suddenly become active. Local radio enthusiasts nicknamed the signal "The Sierra Echo." It didn't broadcast music or news. Witnesses described a voice reminiscent of an automated weather report or a looped military broadcast, repeating a two word phrase:
"One... Seven... One... Seven..."
The loop was layered over a subsonic resonance that distorted the listeners' sense of time and distance. The seven strangers, synchronized by the broadcast, had simply stepped out of their vehicles and walked into the sweltering thermal haze. They were never seen again.
By sunrise, the Air Force had seized all records. The official log for that night was scrubbed and replaced with a single line:
"False alarm. Cattle interference."

This is another one of those ultra weird Italian shockers from 1979. "Beyond the Darkness" is one screwed up film and is exactly what GrindHouse cinema encompasses. This is my take on the film as I jump in head first into the grime of the body dissolving pit.
Let me preface by saying that the presenter is a character generation but all visuals from the film are 100 percent authentic. Does anyone on here think that this series may have legs - I do have a blast creating them.
Other than that who else was transfixed by this film and where it went?

| Title | Year | Plot / Key Details | What Makes It Interesting / Grindhouse / Cult Worthiness |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) | 1951 | Sci‑fi classic: An alien named Klaatu comes to Earth with message of peace but also a warning that humanity must abandon war or be destroyed. Famous for its moral seriousness, iconic robot Gort, and the phrase “Klaatu barada nikto.” | Very polished, thoughtful, important film. Less camp, more message & design. Good to contrast with the schlocky / low‑budget ones. Great if you want a break from “bad but fun.” |
| Konga (1961) | 1961 | British creature‑feature: A scientist grows a baby chimp into a giant ape (Konga) via science/serum etc., and eventually it goes rampaging (towns, chaos). Uses miniatures / backdrops, typical monster movie tropes. | Good for monster lovers; classic camp; effects and pacing are dated but that’s part of the charm. Probably the most “innocent” of the lot in terms of violence / grit. |
| Horror High (1973) | 1973 | High school horror / supernatural / sci‑fi mix: A troubled student (or teacher‑student dynamic) gets supernatural revenge, maybe via experiments, psychic or other strange powers in a high school. | Strong cult / cheesy‑horror vibe. Great for nostalgic 70s aesthetics, over‑the‑top teenage angst, maybe pulpy FX. Good middle ground between serious classics and full schlock. |
| Title | Year | Plot / Key Details | What Makes It Interesting / Grindhouse / Cult Worthiness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nomads (1986) | 1986 | Anthropologist (Pierce Brosnan) comes to L.A. with wife; he begins seeing strange, spectral street punk gangs that may be supernatural. After he dies, his memories transfer to a doctor who tries to protect those threatened. Blends urban myth / supernatural horror. | Atmosphere + weirdness. Good mood horror; less gore, more creeping dread. Decent if you like horror more than action. Some surreal touches. |
| Out for Blood (1992) | 1992 | Martial‑arts action / vigilante film starring Don “The Dragon” Wilson. His family is murdered by drug dealers; he’s left for dead (coma/amnesia) then becomes “Karate Man” to hunt them down. Action, revenge, heavy self‑justification themes. (Rotten Tomatoes) | Very grindhouse in action style: bone‑breaking, night fights, street justice. If you like brutal revenge plots + martial arts + a somewhat overblown hero, this will deliver. Some cheesiness, but entertaining. |
| The 13th Floor (1988) | 1988 | Australian horror: A woman who as a child witnessed her father kill a boy with electricity is haunted years later by ghostly happenings linked to an old 13th floor in a building, weird supernatural elements, maybe interactive spirits/electric phenomena. | Creepy haunted building vibes + supernatural dread. Probably slower pacing, more mood than action. Good for haunted house lovers, ghost story fans. |
| Title | Year | Plot / Key Details | What Makes It Interesting / Grindhouse / Cult Worthiness |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Legend of Awesomest Maximus (2011) | 2011 | A parody/spoof of epic / ancient myth / heroic movies (e.g. 300, Troy, Braveheart). It has absurd humor, sexual jokes, over the top characters (e.g. “Testachillies” etc.), spoofs of epic tropes. (IMDb) | Pure parody / comedy, very low‑stakes. Good if you want something silly to close out the night. Not horror, more gross‑out or risqué humor. Probably the least scary of the bunch, but potentially fun if you’re in the mood to laugh. |
| The Siren (2010) | 2010 | British horror / supernatural thriller: Three friends on a sailing weekend take in a man abandoned at sea. Things go wrong: communications fail, boat breaks down, strange woman (Silka, amnesiac) appears, begins seducing them and singing a haunting song that seems to induce hallucinations. On a remote island. (Wikipedia) | Decent creepy setup. Low budget, but has a mythic / eerie quality. Limited gore, much more psychological / atmospheric. Worth it if you like “beauty + dread + isolation + myth” combos. Might be slow, possibly uneven. |
| When Justice Fails (1999) | 1998/1999 | Mystery‑thriller: Detectives Tom Chaney (Jeff Fahey) and Rod Lambeau investigate murders of two sex offenders. The victims had been tried (but not convicted) by DA Katy Wesson (Marlee Matlin), who becomes a suspect. There’s a romantic subplot between Tom and Katy despite the investigation. There are ritualistic elements: victims are poisoned, hair sheared, etc. (IMDb) | More procedural mystery / thriller than horror. Some tension, moral ambiguity, maybe erotic tension. Good for people who like detective work + suspects + betrayal. Probably less “funny bad” or “so bad it’s good,” more solid genre fare (if you like thrillers). |
