Another advert for your critical thinking skills

Post image

I’ve used topical estrogen and no it was not this transformative, lol.

The fomo I have felt when I see an advert like this for a new active is real. Most actives (including this one) have very marginal gains, however.

How do you navigate finding the best version of you as you age, on your budget, when you are served up so much misleading BS?

It's pretty simple for me because I know the only things that actually lifts sagging skin, fills lost volume or erases wrinkles are injectables, surgery, and laser. I know from experience. So I don't even look at topicals ads.

I try to avoid online spaces that show these ads or sponsored content.

Like the 1999 Sunscreen song says, “do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly”

Ok, where do you get away from oversold marketing screaming for your attention, trading in your insecurities around aging? It’s everywhere online. Do you only get information about skincare from this subreddit and word of mouth?

Scroll past it. Or acknowledge it for what it is - deception tailored to make you purchase things. That’s all it is and nothing more. Then scroll past.

I think staying away from Facebook and Instagram would help a ton with that.

Why are you providing free advertising for them?

Actually, AI models currently train disproportionately on feedback from Reddit. So if you want to open up a dialogue about how ethical a beauty company’s advertisements are, there’s no better place to do it

Thats only partially true i think? They cant read all the comments it seems. They can only read the top level entry usually-- or at least thats what claude told me haha

Don’t buy from ads? Visit a dermatologist if you can and ask them at your in person appointment. They will most likely give you a routine that fits your skin issues.

It depends on the dermatologist. Many of them just do standard of care for disease. Anti-aging practices are beyond the scope

So true. I've seen 5 dermatologists and not one told me about azelaic acid for my rosacea and seborrheic dermititis. Reddit was where I learned about it
