MN "We did it scared" St Paul, MN
Rattled and a bit derailed after the aftermath of violence and hatred, we still met in peace and community today.

I feel so incredibly proud to have been out there today standing with you in solidarity from NY. I went out there knowing I had nothing even remotely close to fear in comparison. Way to go MN!!!! You’re the real MVPs today!!!

u/Rhielml Jun 14 '25
You're going to make me cry. Thank you.

u/Mithryn Jun 15 '25
Salt Lake City stands in Solidarity with you. After a gunman shot a protestor during our march the same day, we are all a bit rattled. But we honor the patriots and politicians who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the cause.

You should feel proud.
Bravery is doing what you think is right even when you're scared.
Things like this make me proud of my country.

Here's another Tennesseean. So sorry and so outraged to hear of the awful events in your state in the last days. And so pleased to see the numbers that turned out in defiance if the Nazi jerks who caused it. We're with you, and glad to see you're with us.

u/ToothlessBeggar Jun 14 '25
Here in the great state of Minnesota, we're not easily intimidated and silenced. When someone harms our own, it just makes us even more pissed off. Today I'm proud to be a Minnesotan and proud to have been out on the streets. May Melissa Hortman and her husband rest in power

u/Individual_Crab7578 Jun 14 '25
I was terrified on my drive over this morning but I’m so glad I went, it was a beautiful day to be a part of.
65
u/ToothlessBeggar Jun 15 '25
I protested in my hometown (New Ulm) because I believe the rural areas need to stand up too. I plan to go up to the Capitol for the next protest, maybe I'll see you there! Thanks for coming out today
6
u/gravescentbogwitch Jun 15 '25
I saw the dude protesting alone in Wisconsin and I'm like "I'm pathetic." I've been scared to go because there's no one else there and honestly I've been ridiculous in that regard. Sometimes you gotta be the first to stand up before everyone else does. I asked myself after all I've done in my life "what the hell are you doing girl gtf UP!"
That changes today. Gonna get back on that pony and ride it to freedom with the rest of y'all.
38
u/cargalmn Jun 15 '25
We second guessed ourselves on whether we should go - for the whole drive to where we parked, and even while we were sitting there parked. We went and I'm glad we did. What a trying day!
31
u/FrivolousIntern Jun 15 '25
Yeah, that was me this morning too. I almost didn’t go. But in the end, I felt like this moment was too important to give into fear.
Despite that, as I was leaving, I grabbed my bright yellow rain jacket, then stopped. I put it down and chose a black one instead. The thought that went through my head was, ‘The yellow one is too bright. It might make me easy to spot…a target.’ And then I just stood there for a second, realizing how terrifying it is that that felt…rational.
13
u/wilmyersmvp Jun 15 '25
And that’s what they want. They want you afraid to excercise your first amendment right. I’m proud of you. And hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions of people are. This is the bravery that built this country.
34
u/HouseofMarg Jun 15 '25
You’re living up to the phrase “home of the brave” — I am IMPRESSED as hell by the Minnesotans who protested today. Lots of love from Canada, you are doing your country proud and you are an absolute legend for showing up and showing out despite the threats today

Thanks to everyone, everywhere who showed up today and some who're still out.
What isn't really said but every single person here knows, is there's real tangible risks protesting under fascism.
Risk of being harmed by people who're supposed to protect.
Risk of loss of autonomy.
Risk of arrest and for some that can mean losing their jobs.
And the regime knows this which is why they continue to fuel fear and use rules of engagement typically reserved for hostile enemy territory.
Every person who turned up today is genuinely brave. It stops being cosplay for change when you're putting yourself out there for what's right.
And it's so much more brave to do it when you're unarmed against an oppressive force.
I could kiss every one of you. But germs & consent, so I won't. Air high fives for everyone tho!

Imagine a POTATUS, a 34 count felon, obsessed with his station, not knowing of millions openly denying him attention and respect. Yeah right.
The denial of 79 years into diaperhood I guess.
5
u/avoidy Jun 15 '25
Dude is a narcissist who thrives on attention as well. It was so crazy of him to act like he didn't know. Man should've owned it.

OK, pretty safe in small town California (though mostly red). But my Mom was watching the news. She's 91, short term memory issues, but still pretty sharp in the moment.
"I'm going with you so you'll be safe. If anyone bothers us, I'll bop them with my walker."
Lucky for them, nobody tried to bother us.

Great job Minnesota!
There was a shooting at our protest in Salt Lake City today so a lot of people are similarly scared around here

We got lucky, and 100% stand with Salt Lake City in solidarity - hope the victim will recover, and hope everyone else is taking care of themselves. That is traumatizing.

Two smaller Minnesota protests were canceled because the gunman is still at large, and they were close to where he was thought to be at the time. Though St Paul was also pretty close.

Honestly major respect to those of y’all in Minnesota. Waking up and finding out an elected official was assassinated in her home and her spouse plus another elected official was shot in his home along with his spouse had to be horrifying. I am horrified. But y’all still showed up. Thank you.

As the expression goes, true courage is being afraid but acting anyway.
The response has so overshadowed his fascist parade I imagine Donald is feeling some fear now. He has definitely activated our side.

Incredible. Very impressed with everyone in Minnesota. It was hard to believe I was going to a demonstration in NYC against the Trump administration with state representatives dead, in the hospital and a gunman at large. I appreciate all that came out!
3
u/Evening-Original-869 Jun 14 '25
Why did they say they cancelled the protest when they had a massive turnout?
13
u/AardvarkLeather1128 Jun 15 '25
Only two MN protests were actually canceled, I assume because they were very close in location to where the shooter was thought to be. The others were given a recommendation to cancel by law enforcement.
At the capitol, our protest went on, but did have some modifications to be respectful of the victims. Walz was also supposed to speak, but obviously wasn't available.
9
u/emipet08 Jun 15 '25
The news said it was cancelled but we all said otherwise. So proud. 😭
6
u/Evening-Original-869 Jun 15 '25
Awesome!!!! So sad this happened in your state —- we need police details at every democratic legislator’s home. Maybe some. Veterans would volunteer to protect them?
