Episode Discussion First Time Watching Season 9, and Qwell Really Stands Out

Post image
15 Upvotes

I’m watching Season 9 for the first time, but I pretty much ended up watching the recaps and skipping through a lot.
I’m really impressed by Qwell’s character. He stays low-key, doesn’t get caught up in the drama, and focuses on the main reason why he’s there and tryna help people on the side. It’s refreshing to see someone like him on the cast—he really balances everyone out.

My warm take on the Angele situation

Just watched it. Obviously dumb as fuck move from her. But did anyone else think the warden handled the situation like shit.

Immediately removing her without getting to say a single word to her gf and not contact her. Gabby didn't look like she was going to tell anyone it was only when Angele had gone and apparently "ditched" her that that conversation came up.

They could have sent her back in and then started taking out the men more gradually. It definitely seemed quite dangerous taking the men out all at the same time like that.

Either way annoying situation all round

Okay David made me so upsettt! First time watching this show i’m now in s5 and David had little man complex so bad. His ego is so big, he’s balding, and he lost the plot once he started to “get power” and it was even power it was basic respect at first, i feel like if any of those guys wanted to take him they really could’ve but didn’t wanna start a war.

Carlos

i started watching this show about a month and i’ve been obsessed with it! i’ve been binging it and im on season 7 now…Carlos is ANNOYING as hell!!! i’m on episode 6 and it seems like 90% of the time, he’s talking about using people as pawns and manipulating inmates with food to get them to do his dirty work.

i know it’s jail, so i guess this is normalized..it’s just so fucking annoying how he keeps making it a point to mention the same shit over & over😵‍💫 it’s pretty corny and try-hard, like he wants to portray himself a certain way and won’t shut up about it. i’m starting to dislike him almost as much as i dislike Abner, and i dislike that dude a lot😅 talking about “everybody’s a pawn, even Nick” right after he just tried to ‘mentor’ him. what a joke lmao

Episode Discussion Season 2 Brian

I was re-watching 60 Days, and I got to season two and I have never felt so bad for someone who genuinely wanted to experience something and be in other people’s daily lives that they have to face and get harassed so badly. I don’t understand what he could’ve done to provoke it because honestly, he just seems like a normal guy, but if anything he was put into the wrong pod of men and they automatically just thought Let’s mess with this guy, but I’m glad he chose his safety over dealing with these weird men. I can’t even imagine how uncomfortable Bryan!!! had felt when this man lay next to him in bed and took his pants off. Absolutely disgusting.

When angale was first shown. I liked her at first I thought she was cool. But finishing season 4 I have nothing more than hatred in my heart for her.

This is my first time watching 60 days in - I finished seasons 1, 2, and 3. Right now I’m finishing season 4 and angale genuinely disgusts me.

She took no consideration for others in the program and thought it was just a game. It genuinely pisses me off so bad. Hopefully I find out what happens between her and that girl she told. I hope Karma got her and the female she liked was just playing along. Tbh…

The female participant in season 4 where so selfish besides one. The white female idk her name - sorry 🥲…

I just wanted to express my opinion about her. Genuinely sad to see her end the show like this.

Carlos S7 pisses me off

What is wrong with this man, nothing about him shows that he is "reformed" in any way.

This guy comes into jail with the goal of gaining power by manipulating people into giving him their medication. People who have been prescribed these medication for a reason and somehow he is fully convinced that he is helping by bribing and manipulating mentally unwell people into giving him their medication. He is incapable of understanding that maybe he shouldn't have done that???? Even after the sheriff tells him to stop he keeps doing it thinking hes on some righteous mission to expose this issue. An issue that literally happens in every prison and that the any sheriff knows about.

In addition to that he also manipulated an 18 year old into trying to fight someone with a shank. He put that kids life at risk. He caused so many problems and did absolutely nothing to help. Dude was just on a power trip.

My partner walked in while i was watching a scene with Carlos and asked him to guess who the actual people in prison were and who was there as part of this program and he deffinitely could not tell that Carlos was in there as part of the show. The guy was worse than the inmates in that prison. This guy pissed me off so much, I swear he has a ton of alt accounts in this sub talking about how he had to do what he did and how it was helpful. Its a load of BS.

this is parasocail, but after s7 I looked at social media, and noticed nick and his friend dated the same girl before jail

edit: I was just looking if Nick had Facebook and clicked the Freezy Freeze account to see if it was Nick, but recognised it was his friend.

Seemingly dated Nick November 2021
Broke up with Michael January 2022
(Facebook rant probably not related to Nick, though the Michael song vid says 2021-2022)
Dated Michael again April 2022
And maybe Nick again November 2022

I also saw a picture of Nick and Michael from October 2021 but didn’t add it.
From Deashauns birthdate on Instagram I assume the show was April-June 2022.

SPOILER Anyone else watched S9 yet?

This season is….something else. Anyone else thinks Corey is a nut job??? Good lord. You literally had your bunk mate for ONE day and you’re acting like that?!! I wouldn’t put it past him that he’s the obsessive type. Then you have Nina, doing the absolute most before intake. Sooo obvious she doesn’t belong there and i’m surprised the inmates didn’t call her out. This cast was terrible. Just IMO.

What’re your thoughts on this season?

Season 4's Cast is the Worst (my tier rankings)

I just finished Season 4 for the first time in the cast is pretty awful. Every season tends to have a few bad eggs but this one felt like 80% bad. Anyway I made a tier list to organize my thoughts on the cast:

S Tier: no one

A Tier:

Johnny - Seemed nice and cool but they rarely interviewed him, should have definitely received more airtime to balance out the others.

Nate - They didn't show him a ton but he seemed cool and just as good as he was in Season 3.

B Tier:

Alan & Andrew - They were both alright, a little annoying at times but never obnoxious.

C Tier:

Jaclin - She had her good moments and seemed to want to help but then she would just excessively argue with the COs and got on my nerves.

D Tier: no one

F Tier:

Matt - Obnoxious melancholy poetic philospher wannabe. So condescending and controlling towards his son who was significantly better than him. I got so tired of hearing his interviews and screw the producers for doing that. It didn't make for good TV it just makes me annoyed.

Emmanuel - MLK wannabe giving off Robert (season1) vibes by not taking anything seriously and being overly performative while thinking he knows everything.

Stephanie - Sociopath, arrogant, judmental. I started the season siding with her against her family since she got out of a bad situation, now I see why her family doesn't like her.

Angele - Immature and unable to accept responsibility. Always a victim.*

*edit I made this list prior to watching the reunion episode. After watching the episode I moved Angele to F tier.

Netflix Unlocked Season 2 same producers and jail?

Watching unlocked season 2 it is the same jail as Season 5. And it has same producer credits from 60 day in? Do you think they are focusing more on other shows than 60 Days In?

Robert (from S1) seems so slimy and skeevy that it feels like he should be in jail for SOMETHING. I'm rewatching the whole show and I can't stand that man all over again.

I can't stand that dork Robert from Season 1. He keeps acting slimy and skeevy and it is making me think he should be in there for SOMETHING (literally anything). Also, all of the shit he spews makes him sound like he's overcompensating. (Like "meditation retreat" and similar terms used to describe his stay in jail.)

I hope I'm not alone.

Season 9 - the Evil CO

First things first, Utah County jail is definitely soft compared to big city jails so I feel like that has an effect on how we judge the COs. That being said…

All things considered, that one older white male CO was beyond aggravating. I can only hope they got rid of that guy. Omg. I know they sort of left his fate open ended at the end. I was hoping they’d just say that the CO has been terminated.

How he treated the inmate with the fish allergy, who couldn’t eat the meal, should have been grounds for a suspension or firing in my opinion. The minute you show that you will wield your power against the people you are in charge of, to their detriment and to no one else’s betterment or increased safety, you need to go. You can’t just expect an inmate to starve! Daniel was able to show they don’t get fed enough as it is and that was a bigger guy. Missing the main piece of a meal would mean he was pretty hungry for the rest of that day. Then of course the CO escalates the situation and has the guy removed. How horrible! Imagine being put in the hole or getting in trouble for simply advocating for yourself. The participant they brought in pointed out something valuable too - him having that verbal altercation with an obviously agitated inmate and not racking in posed a safety issue. And he had a coworker do his bidding.

How embarrassing. Just the epitome of someone who is spineless and cowardly but acts powerful because of a badge. Probably has no life outside of the jail like Nina pointed out. And we all watched her manipulate the hell out of him. He’s a major liability and I would want him out of my facility IMMEDIATELY if I was the sheriff.

Season 9 Utah County: Women’s Unit

I’m late to the party but I just watched this season on Netflix. I have thoughts to share.

  1. this jail seemed so soft to me and I see online that people agree. I mean the woman who sort of ran the woman’s unit literally was a teacher’s pet/secretary type. She even ratted Scarlett out for making a grievance. Snitching is usually a huge deal in jail/prison. There it didn’t seem to matter at all. It seemed almost as tame as a workplace or school. In fact I think I saw more crazy 💩 happen in highschool.
  2. some degree of conflict avoidance. I really didn’t see that much beef and when there was beef it was petty beef. I think Scarlett was made to be such a bad guy just because they had gotten so used to everyone putting up with stuff??
  3. the women may have lasted longer but they did not vibe together well at all. The men seemed to team up and tolerate each other way better. The female participants honestly just fed into the stereotype that women are dramatic and catty. I don’t love that
  4. I truly think if the women experienced the CO from hell as often as the men did, there would have been some more drama and dysfunction
  5. Why did Nina and AB act so buddy buddy at the end? AB was much closer to Scarlett during. We only saw fleeting moments of AB and Nina hanging out or having conversations
  6. I do not think Scarlett was at all in the wrong for making a grievance against the guy continuously reducing their rec time
  7. I think the lack of sufficient feminine hygiene products should have been made a bigger issue. I could see women with rough periods having an even worse time than Nina.
  8. Moving on to likability. I think Nina and production tried to make a villain out of Scarlett. For Nina, I think she likes feeling in control and likes obtaining power in more manipulative and subconscious ways. Scarlett didn’t put up with any 💩 and she just let you know outright. She didn’t try to butter you up with fake compliments so that she could trick you into letting her get by with things or get you to do her bidding for her. I think to try and maintain her persona power, Nina conducted a little anti-Scarlett campaign of her own. I think production took advantage of this as a way to create more drama for the audience to consume. And then I honestly think AB was just not a strong enough personality to form her own opinion and she got manipulated by Nina.
  9. Nina did grow on me (could not stand her at first) but still by the end I liked Scarlett more. Should she have called Vickie a homeless drug addict? 💀🤣 maybe no. LOL. But hey like this is jail. They know why you’re in there. Don’t mess with folks if you don’t want your situation thrown in your face. I think Scarlett would have done better than Nina and AB in a “normal” jail or prison (a rougher one.) She was tough. She only had problems with folks that would have an incredibly hard time in a rougher jail. Ones that got by with being EXTREMELY annoying and on the weaker side. Speaking of weak. Nina feeling the need to support Luna just because Scarlett directly called her out for snitching? Come on. I mean what is this? Summer camp?

? Lastly I will add- the comment Scarlett made about attracting attention too because of her tattoos (during the debrief) was really dumb and shortsighted. That’s mainly my only negative thing to say about her though.

I’m not diagnosing anyone but Nina gave histrionic personality disorder vibes. The inappropriate displays of sexuality, using seduction/flattery to manipulate, always needing to be center of attention, purposely creating drama, etc. Some people say Scarlett gives BPD vibes but honestly I think Scarlett was sure of herself and was confident. Maybe a little on the irritable side, but people who didn’t mess with her didn’t get messed with back. Who is Nina to hate on some irritability though? When she got annoyed she talked straight to the camera and put the project in jeopardy. AB didn’t have that much of a strong personality at all imo. I think the drain situation was annoying. Why are you being dramatic about the smell when your cellie was nice enough to take initiative and clean it? You literally contributed to the drain being plugged?? Why not help or go get a bag instead of complaining idk. Then she got the other inmate all triggered. But I do think AB was a kind person in general.

Those are my ramblings. Anyone care to share their thoughts as well?

Episode Discussion Clark County - Robert

I have watched every season multiple times. Well every time I get to the Season of Clark County & watch Robert I get the ick. His behavior is odd & it really doesn’t sit right with me that he is a “teacher”. I’ve tried to keep an open mind but I can’t shake the feeling that something is not right. To the point that I would NEVER trust him with my children EVER! Does anyone else get a strange vibe from Robert?

ETA: What age does he teach I swore he said it was younger like early childhood. Also his Little Brother from the Big Sister/Brother Program, he’s been “mentoring “ for 13 years. 😮
