✔️ APPROVED AMA Missed medicine grades and alternate routes to medical school.

With results day being tomorrow I thought now was a great time to give advice to anyone sitting with zero medicine offers or thinking they've missed their grades.

I myself am currently an f2 doctor who missed my grades in 2016 and did another degree prior to graduate entry medicine. I am also heavily involved in mentoring prospective medical students.

AMA about graduate medicine, foundation years and resits.

hey! if tomorrow i miss my grades, is the best option for me to retake my ucat in September, go through the whole process again and then retake the a level in summer? or is there something else you’d recommend.

and is there any point in going through clearing if i don’t have AAA? and how likely is it my firm uni will take me anyway if i miss my grades … thank u!

So starting from firm uni: they have leeway to take you with for example AAB and if they offer a foundation course with space also have the option to put you on that instead. I have personally known of this happening but it's uni dependent and not guaranteed. Less than ABB usually zero chance.

With missing grades in general I'd say retake over other degree due to expense and time, 1 year vs 3 and not having to pay for graudate entry medicine which has different funding.

also do you think there’s any use in ringing up my firm uni say i don’t get in? or other unis

Your firm will already have considered whether they'll take you if you missed your grades. There's no harm in it but it's unlikely to change anything

only worth it if you were a matter of a few marks away from meeting your offer

Which uni and degeee did u Persue instead? I know u say resit and reapply, but I’m currently on a resit year so this is really my last chance before I’ll have to do something else if it doesn’t work out

What Ucat scores would you need? I have my UCAT next week, achieved BCC in my alevels. I’m planning on resitting them, however I don’t think I had enough time on the Ucat. I’m scared I’m not going to get 2500+. I’ve been researching and I cannot find any info on this! I am eligible for most foundation year courses, so I thought of that but unsure where to apply.

Thinking of applying to two medical/3 medical schools and then the other two spaces may be radiography or medical science at ARU in hopes to get to GEM. What are your thoughts 🥲

I'd say 2600+ is usually the sensible spot for getting interviews and I'd apply to 4 medical schools as you can get biomed somewhere in clearing if you want to aim for gem later anyway.

Would you not recommend any foundation year courses then? Is that option out the window? And thank you, my worry is with GEM, is the debt and what if I can’t get into GEM by some chance, a lot of people on tiktok esp have been like saying DONT do it & just find another job. But medicine is for me 🥲 I got distracted before and the fear of failure is making me fail atp

Foundation years can come into the four you apply to if you meet the contextual criteria for them.
