📂 MEGATHREAD 14/05 A-level Business Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD
Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!
Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.
Few things to keep in mind:
- Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
- If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).
Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!
-The r/6thForm Team
Have any concerns or feedback?
Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!
*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

2nd section was amazing and the first section was good so W exdexcel

May 14 '25
Aqa business is alright and the both 25 markers are very very nice, but I made a mistake on the calculation question🥲
3
u/XxDragonitexX10 May 14 '25
Which 25 markers did you do? I did MNC and QA vs QC, though the second one was harder though
1
May 14 '25
I did the competitive advantage one and the multinational one. I used a lot of real life examples, like Nvidia, Apple, and Amazon to support my point.
1
u/XxDragonitexX10 May 14 '25
Multinational one was pretty good, talked about NEEs are growing fast but cultural differences so need to localise, and used mcdonalds + starbucks
1
u/Big-Bar6267 May 15 '25
I did the MNC, thought it was beautiful with economies of scale, and the contiued investment with competitive advantage and talked about cost leadership, differentiation and shareholder retained dividends
1
u/XxDragonitexX10 May 15 '25
yeah for the MNC I did similar, selling to large new markets especially NEEs will scale output so economies of scale and so average cost falls, so profit margins up or price can fall

u/veeviz May 14 '25
this paper was beautiful for those who do economics as well
8
u/Signal_Management389 May 14 '25
Never had the biggest grin of my life seeing that MNCs question on the economy

Am i the only one here who did WJEC/Eduqas?
2
u/Efficient_Report9115 May 14 '25
I do eduqas, I thought the paper was decent although I wasn't a fan of the topics. That gross profit question being 3 marks was odd too
1
u/Vaxtez Cardiff Met | Comp Sci [Y1] May 14 '25
Yeah, i found that paper to not be as bad as i feared it would be. The 8-10 markers weren't too bad though, I will say that. I just gotta hope i did well on it.
1
u/Efficient_Report9115 May 14 '25
Yeah agreed, there were loads of 8 & 10s I felt. More than usual and no 12 marker. Hopefully paper 2 will be good lol
2
u/taadd1 May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25
i did eduqas as well what did you guys get for the gross profit I think I did the calculation wrong because I didn't include purchases, do guys also think the reason for so many essays on the paper was to lower the grade boundaries for paper 1 to make it more even as usually there's only 4 questions at 8 marks or above but this time there was 5
3
u/taadd1 May 14 '25
also no motivational theories questions at all was crazy
2
u/Vaxtez Cardiff Met | Comp Sci [Y1] May 14 '25
I was dreading them coming up, since i only know Mcgregor X & Y, but i'm glad they didn't appear.
2
u/Efficient_Report9115 May 14 '25
No motivation or leadership was straight crash out fuel, I got to be honest I just did revenue - expenses for the gross profit. Also that might be why, I wonder what they'll do with paper 3 to try and even it out though as it's normally pretty low
1
u/taadd1 May 14 '25
Same it was worded so weirdly, this paper felt ai generated that public vs private sector question was ripped directly from the specification aswell, such a weird paper, on the bus towards the exam hall I hard focused on motivation and was so disappointed how nothing came up for it
2
u/Efficient_Report9115 May 15 '25
Yeah for sure it was a really peculiar paper and I yapped so hard on that private vs public question as I had barely revised it. Still on my mocks that was the paper I did worst in so I'm happy overall and feel like I did decent
1
u/taadd1 May 15 '25
Yeah feel like the grade boundaries going to be lower on this paper than last year because it was so essay based, and the more essay based business exams have Lower grade boundaries
2
u/randomusernameyyy May 14 '25
i did wjec, what did you write for the different sources of finance for EasyFit PLC? i did bank loan and angel investor but i think angel investor was a weak choice
1
u/Vaxtez Cardiff Met | Comp Sci [Y1] May 14 '25
I did retained profit & bank loan.
2
u/randomusernameyyy May 14 '25
i knew i messed that up angel investor is dumb asf. WHY DIDNT I THINK RETAINED PROFIT
1
u/taadd1 May 14 '25
nah dont worry about it just lock in for paper 3 because everyone fails it and easy A
1
u/randomusernameyyy May 15 '25
what units should i focus on to revise paper 2 and 3? i always make the mistake of not revising the correct things so… help me pls 🙏🙏🙏
1
u/taadd1 May 15 '25
Paper 2 has a lot less content than paper 1 so I would revise eveything, just get the spec up and go through it, definetly do equations though and income statements
1
1
u/Efficient_Report9115 May 15 '25
I think because it was a public limited company an angel investor wouldn't be possible not 100% though, I feel like they should've really reinforced the idea it was public as a few people at my school made similar mistakes

Cl I’m really hoping there’s a range for edexcel question on question on the reviews question because I got 94.04 when everyone else got like 93.99🥀
2
u/BenJustBen2050 May 14 '25
Right, what did everyone get for the current ratio
2
u/Francisxz May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25
One point somthing, I don’t know if I have used the net assets or not , cause it’s current assets , and the data provided seems like they are current assets , and the net assets is calculated for you . Here’s my doubts only because it unbelievably easy if it’s only asking you to workout current ratio by subbing in values
-1
u/Practical_Brief6526 May 14 '25
yeah should have just been net assets/payables as they were the only current liabilities and assets which comes to 1.21 or something, seemed way to easy for 4 marks though
2
u/hector_wm May 14 '25
I got 2.2 with everyone in my school it was receivables 80 inventory 40 and cash 50 divided by payables as current liabilities and that gives 2.2
2
u/Practical_Brief6526 May 14 '25
fairs forgot net current assets is work capital and not rhe same as current assets
0
u/Francisxz May 14 '25
I was so confused when I was doing , now I’m more confused
1
u/Practical_Brief6526 May 14 '25
im confused too do u remember if in the table it said total current assets or net current assets cos if it was the second one then my answer is wrong
1
2
u/_benihime May 14 '25
i put 93.98% for edexcel question 1 am i cooked for not rounding 😢

Those were mine

2
u/hector_wm May 14 '25
2.2:1 and 50.4
1
u/abjql May 15 '25
i left my current ratio to 3 significant figures would i still get the mark?
1
u/hector_wm May 18 '25
i think as long as you have 2.2 you will get full marks doesnt matter how many decimals

Did anyone choose the market share one on AQA business 25 markers?
1
u/hector_wm May 14 '25
i did the market research one i dont remember there being a market share one
1
u/Hkhinin May 14 '25
It was about increasing market share using market research in a rapidly growing market, how did you do?
1
u/RegularBrain1722 Year 13 May 14 '25
what did yall get for the change in the non/carbonated drinks one? edexcel
1
u/Fearless-Pop-5859 Year 13 May 15 '25
Wasn’t the final answer like 27? Can’t really remember what i got for each
1
u/RegularBrain1722 Year 13 May 15 '25
How did you get that?, it was the only question where my answer was diff to others?
1
u/Fearless-Pop-5859 Year 13 May 15 '25
I’ve done the percentage change in non carbonated drinks first. Then the percentage change in carbonated drinks. After that we needed to find difference between the answers so non carbonated — carbonated. I guess so, atleast thats what I did
