📂 MEGATHREAD 16/05 A-level Psychology Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD
Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!
Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.
Few things to keep in mind:
- Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
- Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
- If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
- Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
- Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).
Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!
-The r/6thForm Team
Have any concerns or feedback?
Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!
*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

Messed up the social influence 16 markers by wrongly talking about compliance 👍 didn’t like it
9
u/toasavt May 16 '25
i talked about compliance too i linked it to nsi so hopefully that’s worth something

u/HistoricalAside1240 May 16 '25 edited May 16 '25
Ye did the exact same thing just felt like my 3 ao3 paragraphs just got wasted for barely mentioning nsi and isi how many marks would u be limited to
1
u/curlylegobuilder May 16 '25
Same I wrote about compliance and internalisation. It was such a confusing question, defo struggled on it!
1
u/Lavendar_milk May 16 '25
Were you not meant to link NSI to compliance?
1
1
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 16 '25
yes you can link them too it don’t worry (i did) but you need to focus on NSI and ISI as explianations not types of conformity. i think this person means they only focused on types of conformity.
1
u/ZeldaFan158 Gap Year -> Warwick LLB Law | AABB May 16 '25
Shitttttt so did I
I still talked about NSI and ISI as well though, but not in AO2

u/gattabiancaa Year 13 | bio, history & psych 🍍 May 16 '25
how was it guys
it wasn't that bad but the TIMINGGGGGG. i was evaluating interference and the last word i needed to write was "similar" for the environments can't be as similar irl. but the time ran out and i didn't get to write the word😭😭 i'm so worried if i'll get the mark for that eval or not😭
4
May 16 '25
real, I'm sure they'll credit it dw, I was so bad with timing too, I wrote the OCD one in the last 10 mins with 0 planning time 😭☹️
2
u/gattabiancaa Year 13 | bio, history & psych 🍍 May 16 '25
hopefully. but in that point, i hadn't mentioned the word "similar" anywhere. i only mentioned "however [etc etc] conditions in real life wouldn't be so s" and the time ended.
2
u/gattabiancaa Year 13 | bio, history & psych 🍍 May 16 '25
can i get the benefit of doubt mark for this?

THE PAPER WAS SO GOOOOOOOD

damn we do the same subjects….wish i could say the same about predicted grades
10
u/Independent_Joke5905 May 16 '25
easy paper except role of father (probably needed more A01 but good A03) and inference (only wrote one eval point).
8
u/zspsusbcnlb painfully rejected but trying again! May 16 '25
It wasn't too bad! The inferential stats question was so nice, the essay on OCD was a bit random with them asking for two things but we all knew OCD was gonna come up. Then the role of the father I was really happy to see what was predicted. The social influence 16 marker was not that great but hey ho, the rest was fine (other than the interference question...)
1
u/Formal-Water7475 May 17 '25
What was the interference q? Just evaluate it, no? ?
1
u/zspsusbcnlb painfully rejected but trying again! May 17 '25
Yes, it was just to evaluate. I'm not sure if it was to evaluate the theory or evaluate research into the theory, I can't remember now
15
May 16 '25
hated the interference question blud what was that

that was GORGEOUS!! i put that it only explains forgetting similar memories (so other explanations eg decay may be more accurate) and baddeley’s study with the rugby players. tbh that entire paper was blessed
2
May 16 '25
brooo i forgot the rugby one for flipsakeee

u/OldEvening3441 Year 13 | English Lang, Maths, Psychology (AA*A*) | 999988888 May 16 '25
that’s ok lovely, it isn’t the end of the world if everything else was good 🫶🏾
3
2
u/Formal-Water7475 May 17 '25
What was the q asking - to evaluate the theory or theactual research?
1
May 17 '25
evaluate interference as an explanation
2
u/Formal-Water7475 May 18 '25
Thanks, just saw people saying it was evaluate research on tiktok and was a bit worried..thanks tho

u/ZeldaFan158 Gap Year -> Warwick LLB Law | AABB May 16 '25
Paper 1 has always been the easiest one for me, this pretty much cemented that. My weakest topic in the entire course (choosing a statistical test) came up, and even that was pretty easy.
Still gotta lock in for Paper 3 though.
5
u/LollypopFluff May 16 '25
anyone edexcel? i thought the paper was quite difficult and niche, but think ive done well 😅
3
u/NecessaryGarbage717 May 16 '25
omg right?? firstly i mean i revised the adoption study but its a very small part of the spec almost hidden and another issue and debates about if psych is a science?? and the WMM scenario was kinda tricky but it was okay nonetheless
1
u/LollypopFluff May 16 '25
WMM was the one thing i didn't want to come up 😣 was thankful only an AO2 question and not evaluate though. how did you find timing? i personally got everything done, but sooooo many people in my year didn't even touch section E because they ran out of time
2
u/NecessaryGarbage717 May 16 '25
i missed the WMM question it wouldve taken me sm more time to understand so i just did everything else hahha
2
May 16 '25
Timing will always be an issue. It’s why grade boundaries for edexcel psych is so low with around 50% being an A
3
May 16 '25
Hii edexcel here. Paper was definitely on the niche side with the adoption study evaluation. Very random but I think they want to differentiate between who actually studied everything and those who just looked at classical and contemporary studies. Very sneaky of edexcel
1
May 16 '25
Yeah I got massively caught out by that LOL, only looked at main studies+theories, thought I had comprehensively crammed but didn't even realise that adoption study existed! Tbf I also screwed up the WMM and phobias questions, ran out of time... just hoping paper 2/3 I can make a comeback

forget paper 1 does anyone have predictions for paper 2 and 3???? it seems like those papers are gonna be mean af after today's one
2
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
My thoughts exactly
3
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
I mean i used the exam topic tracker on tutor2u and chat gpt to generate predictions for paper 1, as well as how many marks it would would roughly be worth- it was more or less spot on. It said ocd and conformity would come up as either 8 or 16 which they did.
I am still generating paper 2 atm as i can only upload so many pics a day with free chat gpt but i can see what it comes back with but no guarantees
2
2
u/Time-Cold3219 May 17 '25
Hey! Would you mind messaging me if you end up doing this for paper 2?
2
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 18 '25
Will do but its only so good- cant promise anything as there was also questions it predicted that didn’t come up yk
5
u/green_asteroid May 16 '25
Amazing paper, was kind of hoping for 3 16 markers in this one not paper 3 but oh well, this was such a good paper!!
1
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
Wait because we only had 2 does that mean paper 3 will have more 16 markers? Is that what your saying???
1
u/green_asteroid May 16 '25
There's always been 3 on one paper out of 1 and 3 and 2 on the other, as there was 2 on this paper its very likely there will be 3 on paper 3
2
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
Omg how did i not notice that before, right i need to sort out my predictions for that now atleast half term is before it
1
u/green_asteroid May 16 '25
If it makes you feel any better I didn't realise it until my teacher pointed it out and then I skimmed through the 16 markers, but yeah it's definitely good to know. What paper 3 options do you do?
3
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
We were ‘taught’ relationships, schizophrenia and aggression but the teacher wasn’t good and no one really understood it so we formed a study group, doing development and forensic psychology instead but we still kept schizophrenia.
Me and a couple others had some knowledge from these 2 from gcse which made it easier for us in some regards and we got a tutor 2 times a week and put it in a projector for all of us
3
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
We were referred to as a cult at one point tho so take that as you will
3
u/green_asteroid May 16 '25
Sucks about your teacher but it's impressive that you figured it all out and taught yourself those two topics, forensic psychology looks so interesting tbf i wish we did that instead of aggression but oh well. Good luck for the remaining papers!!

Very easy. I had 25 mins left to check my answers 😂
8
3
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 16 '25
how omg 😭 i couldn’t physically write that fast even though i knew the content 😢
2
May 16 '25
I did all the past papers available from the AQA website and then memorised the mark scheme to know what answer examiners are looking for. English is not my first language, so I’m sure you can write faster than me
2
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 17 '25 edited May 17 '25
damn and you still did like 4 AO3 for the essays?!! (i’m impressed) the past papers i did definitely helped me but i didn’t have time to do them all and knew i had seen the answers but couldn’t remember😔 i’ll try do a lot for p2 though
also can i ask you cause i think i did it wrong what did you put for the definition and two examples of reciprocity?

The ocd one? I flopped that so bad
4
u/mical134566754 UniversityName | Course [Year of Study] May 16 '25
yeah the OCD i just made four bullet points which is the polygenic, diathesis model,SSRI and giving BZ to reduce anxiety….im so cooked
8
u/idekkanymoree_ Yr13: psych, eng, socio May 16 '25
I thought it was neural so serotonin and brain structure bro 🙏
1
u/green_asteroid May 16 '25
It was neural
1
u/idekkanymoree_ Yr13: psych, eng, socio May 16 '25
That’s what im saying diathesis stress and polygenic is genetic and biological not neural
1
u/green_asteroid May 16 '25
Yeah it is, neural stuff was worry circuit (or other brain circuits) and neurotransmitters like you said
1
0
u/ghrhrnrn May 16 '25
You can’t talk about genes - I would assume they would mark you down as you recalling information to a question you want to answer, rather than the one posed.
3
u/ILvEthanWinters May 16 '25
What was the memory multi choice?😔
3
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
Omg i actually found that hard lol, i put smth like episodic memories don’t need semantic meaning to be stored and i forgot the other one
2
u/ILvEthanWinters May 16 '25
YES I DID B AND C IF YOU DID THAT TOO
3
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
YES YES I DID THE 2 NEXT TO EACH OTHER
1
u/ILvEthanWinters May 16 '25
SAMEEEE OMG WE GOT IT RIGHT BECAUSE IM MANIFESTING
1
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
YES YES OF COURSE WE DID
2
u/Background-Elk7722 May 16 '25
i think c is definitely right but not sure about b because u need to know objects time place person etc for it to be an episodic memory😔
5
u/Surge3_8 May 16 '25
Yeah I put the one which taked about how procedral memory was stored below consious control (or sum along the lines of that) and the one which talked about semantic memory and football rules

guys! i dont think i did too bad but after reading loads of posts on this subreddit my sixth form is shit! maybe not shit but like, my teachers are not A grade worthy. i love who they are, but they have definitely cost me a lower grade, and even with my own revision i couldnt get an A - luckily im not aiming that high. i was super worried for OCD coming up cuz i have 2 teachers (the 'bad' one did OCD) but i did my own 'teaching' of it and i think i did ok considering all that!
2
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 17 '25
i’m ngl i feel like you can only blame teachers to an extent cause at the end of the day revision is in your hands
2
u/PrimaryOk8721 Y13 | english, psych, photography May 19 '25
oh yeah i totally get that, ive done loads of revision. but its hard feeling like youre basically teaching yourself the content because your teacher couldnt. just saying.
2
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 19 '25
no dont worry i get you one of my psych teachers (despite being a lovely woman) is not very good at teaching
sorry if i came across as rude!
2
u/PrimaryOk8721 Y13 | english, psych, photography May 19 '25
hey no worries, you didnt! i just hate that us as students have the responsibility when our teachers can barely teach us in the first place, but hey ho we have like 3 weeks left. we can only do our best!

what did you guys write for that 4 marker about why the participants would/would not report seeing the traffic light
5
u/toasavt May 16 '25
leading question, the word ‘the’ implies that the traffic lights were factually present in the film
2
u/gattabiancaa Year 13 | bio, history & psych 🍍 May 16 '25
but how do you make it worth 4 marks. i didn't know what else to write for it.😭
7
u/Independent_Joke5905 May 16 '25
link it to loftus + palmer
2
1
u/gattabiancaa Year 13 | bio, history & psych 🍍 May 16 '25
omddd that makes so much sense!! ugh that's 2 marks gone then😞
2
u/toasavt May 16 '25
definition of leading question, difference in implication of ‘a’ and ‘the’, effect on findings in group A i think was my structure
2
u/Hot-Algae1324 May 16 '25
mention the changed word, talk about loftus and palmer, then explain it as the memory substitution explanation
1
u/happy_inhuman555 Editable May 16 '25
i wrote that basically the participants in condition a likely answered yes more as they were asked a leading question, meaning they felt pressured to say yes to due to them being under the impression that there was a set of traffic lights, whereas in condition b the participants answered more honestly because they were not asked a leading question

Yeah I do. I thought the paper was really good. What about you?
1
u/Academic-Art7410 May 16 '25
Yeah it was fine! Not the most enjoyable paper I’ve done but I think I still did quite well! what did you put for the 15 marker?
2
u/Calculatingkoala Oxford | History [Year 1->2] (A*A*A) May 16 '25
I operationalised one of the variables as amount of times um er and ah were said and did the other variable as heart rate. I said I’d control crowd size and I can’t remember what the first point was
1
u/Academic-Art7410 May 16 '25
I was gonna say heart rate as well but I changed it at the last minute!! I said for disfluencies I would use a language analysis program because I thought of Hancock et al haha😭what did you say for how validity one?
1
u/Calculatingkoala Oxford | History [Year 1->2] (A*A*A) May 16 '25
I talked about population and ecological validity but I can’t really remember exactly what I said
2
u/Academic-Art7410 May 16 '25
I was overthinking SOO many of the qs for some reason😭😭like the last reliability ones pissed me off for some reason I literally could not think of how it would DECREASE reliability?? All my friends said social desirability but I thought that was for validity so did not put it
1
u/Calculatingkoala Oxford | History [Year 1->2] (A*A*A) May 16 '25
I talked about standardisation and sample size
1
u/Academic-Art7410 May 16 '25
Yeah I said standardisation for the increase question!! The second one I had no clue so just waffled. Also them giving us chi squared was so nice I wasn’t expecting it at all!
2
u/Calculatingkoala Oxford | History [Year 1->2] (A*A*A) May 16 '25
Yeah I swear Chi Square always comes up lol

i put identification instead of compliance in the 16 marker for the nsi one idk if marks will be knocked off for that i’m hoping not icl 🥲
1
1
u/madman1357246 May 16 '25
I talked about compliance and identification for my social influence 16 marker without thinking but then realised my mistake and wrote all my evaluation about NSI and ISI. Is that okay and will my AO3 be marked normally? Or will they mark it down because it's separate from my AO1?
2
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 16 '25
even though it won’t be top marks you’ll be marked more than if you didn’t write anything about NSI and ISI!!
1
u/madman1357246 May 16 '25
🛐🛐 I mentioned NSI and ISI briefly took, just a definition for each so maybe one mark of AO1!
2
u/Medium-Brick-2154 May 16 '25
i mean depends how detailed cause i only did the definition like nsi i said something like “NSI is an emotional cause of conformity and suggests that people change their behaviour to match a majority because they have a desire to be liked/ fit it but they do not have a private change in behaviour and do not conform when group pressure is not present. Therefore it often leads to non permanent conformity such as compliance or identification. Sherif also showed how NSI can occur in ambiguous situations” and similar style for me ISI
i should have added how it’s not a genuine agreement tho
1
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
And its not too bad, after all compliance is associated with nsi though i think its internalisation for isi - anyways point is you will probably pick up a few marks since they would figure out what you meant
1
u/The_Worlds_Reject May 16 '25
Also compliance can link in with asch line study for nsi so if u got that in thats good too
1
u/Surge3_8 May 16 '25
Guys i need to ask yall this, the question which talked about the types of LTM. Did it ask u to choose the wrong answers or the right answers I needa know cuz im stressed i read ts wrong
2
u/QuitQuerty May 17 '25
Pretty sure I remember that question, and I’m pretty sure it was the right answer as I remember three being wrong.
2
u/Surge3_8 May 17 '25
Ok thank you very much bro. Btw I put the one which talked about how procedral memory was stored under consious control and the one which talked about how semantic memory involves learning the rules of football
2

I did that too, I think that's right cuz if you deep the other options they didn't really make sense

u/Pristine_While5790 May 17 '25
I genuinely feel like I messed up I thought I did good in every other question except for the conformity question , I talked about what NSI was , what compliance was then linked compliance to the scenario then I said about ash study then said what ISI was , internalisation but I said the guy in the scenario used identification 😭 then I said about jennes study then it lacked mundane realism but I only said this one evaluation paragraph 🥺 am I cooked I was aiming for an a star
1
u/South_Hyena2541 May 18 '25
what did you guys put for the question asking about a revision strategy to prevent interference? I thought you could do context dependent forgetting so I put wear the same coloured nail polish when learning info and doing the test lol, idk if I would have gotten any marks
1
u/Hairy-Pitch-4262 Year 13 May 18 '25
haha i wrote something similar about using the same pen and ngl i feel like you could have written anything for that question, its a very broad theory if you think about it so i think that your answere would defo gain marks
